What is the point of PVE if when you do PVP you are lv 80 already and have all the skills? Sorry in advance as I am new to this game for now but very interested!

Not all of us care about PvP and are only playing it for PvE.

    There's content besides PvP.

WvWvW you use gear and skills based on your PVE character you get a hp boost so you don't get one shot though. ONLY structured PVP you're given level 80 gear and all skills..

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

IMO it's for content gateways and story progression. I'm not sure if the two are related though because I've stayed away from the story as not to spoil it.

for gear/skill progression and player story progression.. and many people are more "comfortable" with a level system. You seen how people freak out in TSW with no direct number for levels:P

So for you the all point of PVE is just to get level and skills to use at pvp? If you dont have fun playing it and you do it only for the PvP part, you are lucky because at GW2 you can directly join structured PvP...

To join WvWvW and have all skills and equips you have to unluck them at PvE.

Thank you for your responses. With WvWvW, its just servers vs servers right? Then who are you supppose to fight for? For example in Daoc you fight for your faction you feel like your part of something but i dont seem to see it in GW2? Seems like you just go into the map and go zerg?

Your racial elites are locked in PvP I'm lead to believe and also the gear that you're given's kinda bad... Also I don't think you can alter your traits or "talents". You just go with what you're given. Plus if you level up and play through, you'll be able to better figure out when to use what skill. But yea, the gear that you're given and the pre set traits kinda suck in pvp imo so there.

you do know in structured pvp you can setup your skills to whatever you want right?

Everything you just said is the opposite of true with the exception of racial elites.

"I'm lead to believe and also the gear that you're given's kinda bad."

It's equivalent to the best gear you can get in the game.

"Also I don't think you can alter your traits or "talents"."

You can alter your traits any time you want in sPvP.

"You just go with what you're given."

You are able to choose every piece of gear/runes/sigils you want from the vendors.

    You fight for your server.

If you believe no one will be shouting "for sorrow's furnace" or fissure of woe or darkhaven or desolation or whatever, when they charge in combat, you are mistaken.

In sPVP, nothing, go play that at any time and you're good to go.

Everywhere else:  Level locked skills and traits.

WvWvW boosts your level to 80, yes, but if you go join at level 4 or something and someone else joins at level 40 after assigning some traits and having extra utility/elite slots available...its a power difference.

Some pvp - mainly wvwvw while boosting your hp to 80, doesnt grant you the SP for utility and traits.

    Only structured pvp does that.

You're fighting for your home server.  I think that gives a wonderful sense of community and makes you feel a part of something.  You'll always fight for your own home server, regardless of where you are in the brackets.  Personally....I really like that.

Did they change enemies being nameless entities? That really ruins the immersion imo as grudges and conflict are just as much a part of PvP as the actual fighting. Otherwise it's more of an arcade game and less of an rpg.

Loooong time ago, before raid bosses and level grinding.  Before ph4t l3wtz and ganking n3wbs...people played games to actually have fun.

And well, that's the point here.  You do automatically get upleveled to 80 with all the skills in sPvP.  But you might want to go through the PvE anyway simply because you enjoy doing it.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

    The enemies' names are:

    "A <server_name> Invader/Defender"

People have their guild tags, so you can recognize guilds.  Guilds can hang their flags from keeps they've conquered.

Honestly, in war, generally you're not on a first name basis with somebody you're killing.  One of the few realistic features GW2 has, and people call it an arcade game feature.  Go figure.

The reason people freak is cause TSW does have levels but in the form of "combat effectiveness" this number is hidden from the player and only vaguely referenced by the colored symbols next to a mob's name.
