Sell me GW2

I must be one of the few people on the planet who isn't overly hyped by this game.

Done little bits of reading and many are stating this is great for casual players.

I am a casual player in the sense that I get a couple of hours 2-3 times a week and perhaps a 4 hour stint on a Sunday to play,  with work, family and fitness pursuits taking up most of my time.  Time is a more valuable commodity than money to me and I have a fair bit of disposable income for the "right" game,  eg ME3 multiplayer I enjoy a lot and I have spent £100s getting the unlocks as I simply don't have the time to grind them out via credits.

I enjoy PVP and regard myself as a decent PVPr when not a case of gear > skill

I  presently potter around in SWTOR on alts I've deleted the 50s I have as I simply did not have time for the whole gear grind and dungeon runs etc. No sooner would I finally catch up for a new tier to come out.  Pretty much why I have never settled to any MMO aside Star Wars Galaxies.

Is GW2 the game for me and if so why ?

Yes I could go read a trillion threads and find the answers but see above about time.

If you're into Structured PvP then yes, because at level 2 you can jump into it, get boosted to level 80 and start making a build that you think you'll enjoy. Everyone's skills, gear, runes, sigils are unlocked and are matched to players with about the same experience which is decided by glory. There's a sense of progression where you can earn ranks and cosmetic rewards, and you could even join tournaments if you get a good team.

Lastly all of these are accumulated between characters so if you want to try a different class you can, and you'll still have your rank and rewards to use on those characters, being able to jump in at level 2 and be ready for some PvP sounds very casual friendly to me since you don't have to grind for gear to be able to compete.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

You can pre order the game at any game store r toystore, or just buy it online.

As allways, only real handson experience tells you if its the right game for you, Loose 50 pounds or score an Epic win.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I'd say it could be for the simple reason that the gear grind (for better stats) isn't in this game. There is no doubt that it is one of the most casual MMOs out there. No time wasted traveling due to the teleport system. Structured PvP requires zero time investment to be on a level playing field. WvW may take a little more time to get EVERY skill (you don't 'need' every skill by any means) but it's less time than you would need to reach endgame PvP in something like SWTOR.

That alone would be reason enough based on what you have said. As soon as you said casual it's pretty obvious you should definately give the game a go. With plenty of disposable income you have nothing to lose really and there would be no reason to delete your high level characters.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

As far as the PvP side, it sounds like the game may be right up your alley.  As far as your SWG experience, the PvE side is much more themepark so there will be some big differences there.  Based on what you are saying, GW2 may suit you just fine but there have been times I thought a game would be great and I didn't end up liking it and vice versa.  Before you spend the money, better hit up youtube and watch some reviews.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

How bout researching, going to the official websites, browse youtube for vids instead of making a thread where you follow the hype train.  What I and many others did, was against GW2 initially but once started digging around found that this game was for me... on my own no less without anyone telling me I must get it.  It's not the hard nor time consuming.

And for someone who says they don't have a lot of time and yet posts quite a bit on these forums is hypocrytical as apparently you have all the time you need to make an informed decision on your own.

    - You're casual.

    - You enjoy balanced PvP where gear matters little.

    - You dislike gear grinds.

GW2 is a game made for people like you. You're gonna have a blast in both Structured PvP (you're automatically boosted to 80 with the best gear, and you can choose your build) and also World vs World (strategy and tactics matter at least as much as gear there, if not more). And being casual, you will certainly enjoy the pace of GW2's PvE too, with no need for "scheduled" gameplay like raiding.

GW2 seems to fit you like a glove!

This game is totally for you

    1) the world is really magnificent and detailed, with lots of things going on and stories. If you haven't read all the things about Dynamic Events, just one things is sufficient to know: the ennemies are "really" attacking the village, and they have a hideout that you can go and destroy if you drive them off, or they'll invade the village and you'll have to reclaim it. There are also lots of goodies everywhere that you can just find if you like adventuring (vistas are great: little cinematics placed on hard-to-reach locations for you to get another view of the world; and you even get xp for them)

2)PvE is great for when you have little time. You hop right into the action, you can transport there immediately and your friends at higher level can just come back to where you are to help you out: they'll be downleveled  and they'll get relevant rewards for them.

3)structured PvP is both simple to get into and hard to master. You can just hot join for fun, or go into real tournaments with a team. And once again, you are the same level as them, with all the equipment you want, anytime. No grinding to get it, just pick and choose your build and in you go.

    4) WvW is perfect for your sunday fix: hop into it with your PvE earned gold, get some siege weapons, and go conquer these lands with everyone around. It's perfect: you just hop in, you'll have more experienced players (commanders) giving out strategic orders so you know what to do if you're lost, but you can also just go with your guildmates or a few friends: there are objectives for any size and amount of time. And suddenly sometimes you'll get into a completely epic battle, with arrows raining down on you, AoE spells just popping out everywhere, and melee characters jumping on anyone who walks too far into the no-man's land. You can even nearly single-handedly stop an invasion like 1 against 15 with a ballista or an arrow-cart, and be the defender of the crown. It's just awesome! And I did all that on a sunday morning after five hours of play saturday and friday together. It's made for us.

ps: if you have the time, here's a relatively long video for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtG0kkDviTU

1523 posts in 6 years on the only forum I'm really a part of = a lot ?

I could spend hours reading and not get the info I specifically want thus why just asking is easier theres plenty of fans out there who would take the time to answer a guy like me on their dinner break.

I agree with most of your points, cept for the one I highlighted. The teleport system only takes you so far, and of course you have to unlock the waypoint by going there first. The waypoint system is a time saver after the initial travel investment.

    To the OP:

No one else can really make up your mind for you, nor can they really provide any new info beyond what can already be found on the internet. I'd suggest going through some of the beta weekend experience threads here and check out the tremendous amounts of feedback that have been left.

Additionally, I feel totalbiscuit had a really good commentary in his beta roundup video, which was posted in another thread originally, but here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtG0kkDviTU&feature=g-u-u

The way I looked at it was, at worse I only pay $60 for the game and don't like it. I've spent more than that on the family at a movie theatre for a crappy movie for just a couple hours.  I ended up buying the deluxe editions for all of us in my family though.

Even if we only played it for a few months its worth it to me. From what I've played in beta it looks much more promising to me though, so we'll see how it goes in 6 months after release. Still a small price to pay for a game I don't have to pay a monthly sub fee.

Ok, you have a point. A better thing to say would have been 'Less time wasted traveling compared to most other MMOs'.
