Warning: don't buy this game! They wipe your character.

DiodemDiodem Member Posts: 52

I just made a post on their official forums asking why they charge money for a game that will be experiencing a planned server wipe.

As they have stated themselves in their own blog:

"All the talk of a new game, brought up speculation about a wipe and this is something we have addressed twice already. We explained that whether we wipe or don’t wipe, the game is so different that it’s of little significance."

http://www.darkfallonline.com/blog/?p=2601

I think it's a rather important thing to be aware of before investing time and money on a character, and that they chose to delete my post was pretty much the confirmation that I should stay away from this pile of fail.

They could have locked my post, but they chose to delete it, because they obviously have no good argument against it. Reason they gave was that my post was spam, so there's been others that have pointed it out as well.

This is the @sshole attitude of a gank community, that has been there ever since the game launched, mainly with forum moderators, but also in the concept of the game:  as a newbie you'll be more vulnurable for ganking if you join a clan, since any NPC cities will not defend anyone in clans that are at war. And the whole gank concept have been based on incredible amounts of grinding skills, which has nothing to do with playerskills.

I can't even begin to imagine what those hardcore grinders at launch must think about the whole thing, all their brainmelting grind was for nothing, cause when the new version of DarkFAIL launches, everyone have to start as a newbie.

Just glad I wasn't one of them.

Stay away from this game, cause these people don't understand very very basic customer service...

Luckily there are other sandbox games out there, but even a themepark game will do better than this one...

Why should a new game with new rules retain old characters built on old rules? Not to mention, severely exploited old rules?

Why would anyone want to subscribe to DF2.0 if all the old shit characters from 1.0 are still there?

Why would anyone care about what a hardcore grinder thinks? I'm not sure they even qualify as human.

A clean slate would be the best thing this game has going for it.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

Personally I'm not gonna go into a big discussion about it, I'm done with the game and the company.

This is just a heads up, for people that might consider paying for the game.

Tthey won't allow you to talk about a server wipe on their forums, but I think it's fair that players are aware of this.

I can see that there's a valid point with "clean slate" , but if I was one of those grinders I'd be pretty pissed of at AV...

And when they delete a post, and don't allow it to be discussed, well I think that smells pretty bad.

Remember they don't have any ETA on the new version of the game...

Anyway that's all as far as I'm concerned, I think it's fair knowledge before anyone joins.

Strangely enough, most of us are aware of this on these forums, but I see you're new here so you missed the memo.

In fact, if I recall correctly, Aventurine reserves the right to delete your character if you remain unsubbed for some period of time, say 6 months or so, but someone who actually plays would have to confirm.

Speaking of which, doesn't sound like you currently, or even in the past have played.  Understandable your forum post was deleted, you're not a customer and they probably don't think they're losing much by pissing you off, you weren't ever going to sign up anyways.

They are in fact a company run by hardcore gankers, you're surprised that they have no issue killing off forum posts that annoy them?

It sucks but oddly enough I don't think this is Darkfall's biggest problem.

  • GreymoorGreymoor Member UncommonPosts: 802

    Hahaha you must be severely missinformed;

1.) You don't have to buy the game anymore, so by all means don't buy it just download it

2.) DF2.0 is a code name, the new game will not be the same game as DF1.0. It will infact be its own game, everything Darkfall could not be due to technical issues and limitations that they can not fix in the current version.

3.) Tasos has stated DF1.0 was never to be a commercial product but proof of concept. If you're wanting a game with risk, full loot, conquest, epic fights and character freedom then you'll want to stick around for 2.0. Df1.0 has always had its huge flaws, I see no downside to starting new on a completely redone and vastly improved version of the game.

That being said download DF now, join in the fun with the massive skill gains and increased drops you'll be enjoying high end pvp within weeks without having to pay a box price... Nothing else decent out at the moment anyway :)

    QQ thread.

Seems to me you got ganked in game and then got ganked on the forums and now you want some sympathy.

Rather than telling us what he said, please show us because I cant find this quote. Or anything like it.

I however, have found plenty of dev posts suggesting darkfall 2.0, formerly known as Darkfall 2010, was gonna be out in the 1st quarter of 2010.

If by "misinfirmed" you mean we arent in touch with what the devs have said, then ok I guess you might be right. But remember, the devs in that game are misinformed so ya, I wouldnt go quoting them either. Such a good concept and such a bad company.

The interview is not all about Darkfall specifically but there's some good parts in there.

Yes they used to say Q1 2010 but that was before they decided to ditch 1.0 and go ahead to change a lot more than intended.

Darkfall is the only MMO out there with:

    Sieging/Territory control

    Open Full-Loot PvP

    100% Manual aiming

    Action oriented twitch combat

Doesn't matter if they wipe it, there is nothing else out there for those of us who demand the above.

    Runescape does 2.

There was so much exploiting in Darkfall, especially early on that they really have no choice but to wipe if they truly want a new and fresh experience.

    True.

Who cares if they wipe, now that the grind is gone it's all about having some fun with DF's great core aspects. The game is far from perfect, but it's dirt cheap and, as the above poster points out: there's nothing else out there if you happen to like those core aspects.

No, after a longer period of being unsubbed, your character is moved to a different database. When you re-sub, you may not see your character, but with support ticket it will be restored, that's if it's not automatically restored within an hour or so.

Honestly, I was hoping for a wipe.  I will be playing again once 2.0 is released.

  • GreymoorGreymoor Member UncommonPosts: 802

There won't be a wipe but you won't have these characters in DF2.0.

AV has stated DF2.0 will be an entirely new game, separate from DF1.0 and that 2.0 is merely a codename for their new game.

It used to be an expansion years ago but they decided to go ahead and redo the entire game, fixing issues that couldn't be fixed in 1.0 and improving every aspect of gameplay. (You will not have to buy 2.0 if you have brought 1.0 too)

One day, hopefully a long time from now, you will die.

Does that make living life pointless?

    Enjoy the journey.

I remember back in the day when MUD's would do player-wipes .. there wasn't anything anyone could do but bitch and moan back then because the game was free for someones programming hobby.

But the players all pretty much knew each other either in game or not, so we would all start out equals again.

For a retail game though for which you pay for, this is a complete disaster to do a player-wipe.  What a nightmare, to have stayed up late some nights believing you could become more powerful, only to have it not matter.  Ugh.

If some higher ups were abusing the system, they should have been dealt with.  Doing a restart is very bad.  It only hurts players who don't have time to play (not powerful) :(

..And to get those players back.....zoinks!

Actually I think you are confused. AoE's are still manual aiming.

They will wipe or 2.0 will fail.

They upped the skill gains so people could max out faster and have some fun while waiting on 2.0
