Exploits! Right or wrong?

UmbroodUmbrood Member UncommonPosts: 1,809

In any old school game I would say wrong, I would scream it!

But the introduction of the RMT auction hall, ( and Blizzard was not first here, SOE was, as far I know ), kind of kills the morality of this.

My point is simple, there is no lie they would not tell, there is no moral or ethical consideration they would take, to sell more boxes!

Holding themself to no moral standard what-so-ever, and then introducing a way for players to make real life money "legit" in their game, how can they possibly expect others to live by rules they would never EVER adhere to, if money was involved?

They lie and cheat, and yes, they are WELL aware of the shortcomings of thier own product, but they still do it, to earn cash.

Hype goes crazy and interviews skyrocket them even further, when all involved very well know what is going to be released!

Who has the moral high ground here, the asian sweat shops who do this to actually feed their family, or the outright liars who are watching this all unfold from their yacht in the marina?

And as I am a nerd I would like to quote Frodo!

There is no promise you can make that I can trust! ( To Gollum ).

To all the would be exploiters out there I say f*ck it, go for broke, ( as if you would not ).

I would never play a game like that, it destroyed D3 for me and there are no words to descride my sadness of that fact.

Argue against that?

( Pardon the grammar )

Exploiters are cheaters and deserve any ban handed to them.

I don't really understand how D3 real money Transactions are an Exploits.

There is no competition on who gets to what level first, there is no character vs character. Its all an Co-op game.

    How is that an Exploit.

The whole Diablo genre was about getting loot, collect sets of armors and looking cool doing it.

So what that I can buy the whole set of an armor by Real Money, how is that affecting you as a gamer whom gotten the whole set after playing 2 weeks non stop. If i don't play with you ever online, how is that affecting your game play that you do with your friends, or when you solo.

When we co-op, we are all fighting for the same goal, kill the boss, don't die, and get loot.

I just don't understand why people are saying that D3 is an exploit.

Yeah for the most part, assuming we're only talking about the truly bad exploits (there are plenty of shades of grey to it.)

That was not my point, I am not saying D3 is an exploit!

I am saying that any company, blizzard included, will and have cheated us by a hype they do not even remotely belive themself to get us to guy more boxes!

    To earn money!

And they introduce a system that involves real money, and they expect their customers to uphold a standard of fairness that they themself would NEVER adhere to, if the bottom line was real life hard earned cash!

There is NO real life eploit that they would not use to get more sales, and honestly, correct me if I am wrong here?

Yet cheating in their game, based on REAL money, is something they all of a sudden have moral a standpoint AGAINST!

My point is, I do not blame the people trying to earn some cash from a game that is based on a lie to begin with.

Not saying D3 is bad, because it is not, i liked it, but the money grab kind of sickens me!

As for the OP, Blizzard hasn't cheated, hasn't stolen (except perhaps via genuine bugs in their system which only a fool would think are intentional given their well-being relies on customer trust and repeat transactions,) and hasn't done anything amoral.

The OP's rage seems entirely misplaced.

The ironic part is the OP probably has 300+ hours invested into the game, proving that they actually had a ton of fun with it.

I have no problem with RMT auction house in diablo 3.  But I have problem with wizard regenerating 1 million hp per second in diablo 3.

But I think I'll have problem with the RMAH when the diablo pvp arena is introduced in future patch.  Because it's hard to compete against them.

But let me ask you this, do you have problem with people living in a better house just because they are rich?

Your stance is akin to being mad at your local government so, to retaliate, you start smashing stuff around your own neighborhood.

It's a game. Participation in it is voluntary. If you don't like it, play something else. There's no reason to maliciously ruin everyone else's fun.

In subscription games, I feel a sense of moral outrage when I see people scripting/exploiting.

When I hear about it in games with RMT (whether auctions or cash shops), I just feel a sense of fatigue.

Yeap... that's Ceph alright... a babe in swaddling. Why, it was only a couple days ago that his egg rolled down a hill, stopped in a wide grassy field and cracked open. He's never seen anything in MMOs, doesn't know anything about MMOs and is just bright-eyed and niave about how the world works.

A company is made not to provide you with Free Entertainment.

They are there to make products that earns them profit, and to get people to buy that product they make the product fun and entertaining.

Blizzard is very good at making Games that produces Profits, and its within the scope of the game. The whole game feels like it was build around the RMT Auctions. Therefore it doesn't feel forced, I still buy my stuff from the Gold Auctions not the RMT.

When a game that was build without RMT in mind, yet tries to jump and ride the Bandwagon, then that is wrong, sure they are trying to earn money, but still, if it wasn't made with it in mind, don't try to include it suddenly.

I haven't found the Regen 1 million HP for Wizards yet, does that decrease its effectiveness and damage, if it doesn't then wow, that wizard is OP.

With so many combinations of gear and sets available, that person must have experimented and spent billions of Gold and thousands of cash just to come up with it. Unless it was a cheat, then the person should be banned.

Cheating in an Solo game is fun, Cheating in an Multiplayer game should be banned because you are not playing the game the way its meant to be played.

I find it sad that the argument starts with the "evil company" montra. Sorry, I don't think you can be successful and operate that way unless you are a monopoly. It also is a slap in the face to those in the company that have passion for what they are doing. Are they trying to make money - yes. That doesn't mean every company sells it's soul to the dollar. Do you work? Is that how your employer operates? I have yet to work at such a company. Thats not to say the places I've worked are perfect they are run by people after all but the lion share of those people are decent.

    Oh yeah, exploits - wrong.

Sometimes I generalize/stereotype and think the people who say things like Blizzard is greedy, they are just out for the dollar, it's all about the money are, in RL, young people who are still in college or younger and are being supported by their parents. They haven't left the nest yet and do not understand that it takes money and work to live in this world. We don't live in a universal Utopia where everything is given freely for the goodness of mankind...or MMOs and their playerbase.

What lie, or moral/ethical boundary-crossing do you think happened?

Because until you cite some examples, it feels like you're just raging.

In no way did I feel obligated to spend money on the RMAH, it was effectively nonexistant as far as I was concerned.  Until a company steps over the line where it's not ignorable, there's no drama except the drama you create.

I have over 200 hours in D3 and haven't bought a thing. Of course, to be fair, I haven't beaten the hardest Difficulty yet either. I guess some kids are in a bigger rush than me and have to buy their gear so they can beat it now! now! now!!

To me, exploits are much worse than real money in mmorpg.

When real money is involved, there at least still have an economy.  But with exploits the whole integrity of the economy is destroyed.

When I play Atlantica Online, cash shop does bother me.  But what bothers me the most is people botting and make 200$ worth of cash shop item a day.  It literally destroyed the economy.  Same with the wizard god mode exploit in d3(which was fixed yesterday).  And I actually felt bad for people who spent hundred of dollar on cashshop, when other people can get the samething through exploit.

  • rdrakkenrdrakken Member Posts: 426

    Depends on the exploit.

If there is an exploit that allows you to jump at an angle to get someplace you were supposed to actually go, its fine.

If there is an exploit that allows a 3rd party program to allow you to teleport, bypassing the games movement rules...its not.

One is benign, the other is malignant.

    To clarify:

D3, made by Blizzard, is a good game.

    You like it.

    They have rules against cheating.

And you are unhappy because they provide a product that you enjoy for a fee.

HOw do those go together ? How is it a viable complaint that a company produces a good game (according to you) that you enjoy ?

BTW a claim about what someone would or would not do in a hypothetical situation is a pretty lame complaint.
