Yup until a developer totally understands that sandbox does not equal open world gankfest (or as you put it non-consentual) PvP then it will be a niche audience at best. AA looks to be cater to the Lineage style playerbase which are predominantly an Asian playerbase. In the west PvE rules the day.

Deprecated asian grinder as a one of the most anticipated games on market the game is not even getting released on.
Theres a reason for that.
It's not just another boring wow clone with instanced raiding and instanced PVP as endgame, there hasn't been an AAA MMO with player made content since EvE, and EvE started as an indie game.
Player made content... you know.... that thing that shallow games like WAR, AoC, TSW & SWTOR lack,
This game will be EvE 2, but less niche, after so many years, a real MMO.

WoW has an open world PvP
This.
We don't even know if there are going to be PVE servers where the only non-consentual PVP happens in the 3rd continent.
If there are only PVP servers where you can get attacked anywhere, even by your own faction, the game will probably fail.
WoW had PVE servers so it's not the same.

I played EVE for about 3 or 4 years and ventured into almost all the game had to offer and I am sorry to inform you that there is no player made content.
The only thing close to player made content can be found in STO Foundry.

By player made content i meant Politics, Economy, Guilds/Corporation wars that actually mean something, etc.
Maybe it's not the right term, it sounds like NWN 1 & 2 toolset.

Yes, many people don't understand what content really is, they mistake it for "tools".
Games rarely contain tools for players to make their own worlds, but sandbox style games like EVE are full of player made content.

It is definitely not the right term.
Apart from economy, all things you listed appear wherever is competition, it isn't related to game mechanics specifically.

Oh come on, it's ALL about game mechanics.
If a game lacks depth, it's to themeparky & too shallow, there is no real competition, because there is nothing to compete, i can just grind instanced raids, get the best gear, and then PVP on instanced battlegrounds for no reason than just killing other players, mindless PVP.
When there is nothing to win, nobody cares about the game after a couple of months, see AoC, WAR & SWTOR, what is there to do? there is no competition at all.
It's also why i won't buy GW2 at release, all the hype means nothing if the game gets boring after a couple of months.

then PVP on instanced battlegrounds for no reason than just killing other players, mindless PVP.
Yet, there is plenty of e-sports based on same mechanics.
Your personal bias is irrelevant and whether you consider such competition meaningless does not make it less real.
Im not even arguing that, this is getting into a themepark vs sandbox argument.
I was just saying that theres a reason this game gets so much hype on this site, unlike pretty much every MMO made in the last 7 years, this one has player made content (or whatever you want to call it) and things to do when all the quests & stories end, the mechanics and features have enough depth for that, you won't have to wait 3 months for 4 hours of new content.
Plus you are calling it an asian grinder just because it's asian, you haven't even played it, for all we knew the game could be a quest grinder if you are only interested in doing quests, so it could be another themepark leveling wise, IE not a kill 10000 boars to lvl up grindfest.
Unless you consider kill 10 quests a grindfest... but in that case even SWTOR is a grindfest.
My advice: Don't waste time trolling other games, being the only one on this forum defending SWTOR is enough work.

Isn't ArcheAge taking sandbox gaming by storm kind of like having a hurricane in a pond? There's not that much in the way of sandbox gaming now outside of Eve. It would be a lot more impressive if ArcheAge just did well as an MMORPG, regardless of its sandbox or theme park status.

My wife is very interested in AA, but i told her that its very pvp centric and your not safe from griefers / gankers.
I hope they implement carebear servers for the people who like to build stuff and like playing the game without griefers and gankers.
She wont buy it when there aint PVE servers.
