It's always been an SOE game. It was in alpha early beta as MS publisher but they wanted out and the only company left that would publish it was SOE. So how did you love the game when its been an SOE game since release ? Don't tell me you loved the beta because I played from alpha with MS to the release and beta was horrid. I had tons of fun, but the performance in beta was awful.
Originally posted by Gravarg If it wasn't for SOE this game would've been better than anything, but they never fixed anything until it was 50x way too late. I do like it going f2p. I'll be playing it, bugs and all...as long as SOE doesn't get greedy and start charging you "Breath" tokens or something. "Oh your character needs to breath? Buy this token for $10 and you can take a single breath"...suprisingly that wouldn't suprise me lol.
I followed Vanguard closely before launch and was around for the horrible beta's and even worse launch. If SOE had not stepped in Vanguard would have never been released, the company was days from going under with SOE being the only really interested backer. To this day I really don't understand what SOE hoped to gain by backing this project. They already owned two MMO's in the same space (EQ and EQ2) and all they had to do was nothing and they could have killed this project before it even launched.
Already? Dammit I'm still waiting for a response back from soe, cause my account is locked, probably hacked or something. And I just got an e-mail back saying they are very busy so it might take a while

In almost every area there is a chance you can find a locked chest requiring a certain number of keys to open
Sometimes an npc will drop one of Finch's lockboxes
Each of these lockboxes can grant the player a special mount, pet, or powerful weapon from Finch's vault.
Keys can be found on the marketplace
lol sorry i couldnt help but laugh at these notes , everything else seems cool but that is your typical SOE at work there.
This is the worst kind of F2P crap IMO. If wanted to gamble I'd go to Vegas, the odds are probably better than in game anyways.
Games arn't free to develop and update let them make money and just don't buy the keys.
Their are tons of ways to make money in a F2P MMO without having to resort to playing off gambling. I have no issues with gambling, I love my yearly trips to Vegas but it's my opinion that it doesn't belong in online gaming.
And as long as you are trading real money in any form for a small chance at wining a valuable price vs a much larger chance of winning a very low value prize it's gambling.

yeah im actually with you on this i dont like the gambling game either and its in my main mmorpg guild wars 2 also so its kinda frustrating. EQ2 has made plenty of money selling appearence armor and mounts broker tokens, classes, and races. Throwing chests into the game where you have to buy keys for real life cash is lame imo. I will still play vanguard until GW2 releases though as its a fun old game but SOE needs to really get their act together with what they want to push on the players before they say enough and its back to square one but with less subs and less cash income to soe.
Also one big change i hate already is the broker system being free to play access for buying and selling to at a higher broker fee. The one damn great thing about vanguard is the current community where you find great items for lower levels for a silver piece or a couple at the most to help newer toons get a little gear to help level. Now i can already see how the free to play crowd is going to destroy that market entirely and that actually pisses me off. If you go back to any aged game like wow eq2 etc all you see is lowbie gear at astronimical prices from players trying to rip off someone to make a quick fortune. I REALLY wish they would of made free to play players have to buy broker tokens so you dont see the market flooded with over priced garbage.

Wanted to sub before f2p, meh.
For the rest, great news

Yeah I just figured out I could do that, I'm talking to someone now. Only took like 15min
They are really trying to turn this game around, and its appreciated. The patch notes are just an example of that. After all this time its hard to believe Vanguard is getting a second wind. I'm really looking forward to playing again and seeing friendly faces.
Initally I was excited about the F2P so that I have some to play until Gw2 comes out. However, I did the trial and the quest hubs were killing me after the DE's from GW2.
If you had a paid account in the past, you still can play those characters now as a free account regardless of their class or race, and you get 12 slots instead of just four slots. If you have over the allowed amount of plat or bank slots used, you just cannot acquire "more" cash or use additional back slots until you are under the cap.
These advantages don't sound like they apply to people who used free trial accounts only.

So how restrictive is the plat limit at max level? In EQ2 you can hit the plat limit on a free account in a day or two at max level and there is no way to upgrade it short of a monthly sub.
