Hrmm, For me, I re-live the Rome Total War series of mods from time to time, but other than that:
Fallout 2, CastleVania, Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2 (3 blew), Neverwinter Nights (Modded Communities), Military Madness, EQ, UO, hrmm, DAOC.. The mmo's I dont replay, cause they still have monlthy fees, but they were awesome none the less.
Of recent games I enjoyed, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim, Shogun Total War, Machinarium... to name a few.
I will seriously consider GW2, because of no monthly fee. What I don't understand is why can't other mmo's make this happen.
So I noticed something lately. The games I'm playing (outside of Skyrim):
KOTOR
KOTOR 2 (Restored Content Mod)
DA: O with mods
Fallout 3
And now Elder Scrolls Oblivion
Now I've played ME3 and the other "new games", and the only ones I found worth it were Witcher 2 (even then the enhanced edition) and Skyrim.
Is it me or are today's games just outright bad? Or maybe (and this could be) a lot of these games came from a golden age of gaming that we have left?
Btw, any suggestions on Oblivion mods? That's another reason I love a lot of these games. So much modding. Of course now, with the world of always on connections required and ever more intrusive DRM causing performance issues, less and less mods.
Not to mention everyone is just focused on money grabbing DLC now.
No you aren't fooling yourself. Witcher 2 and Skyrim are really the only current RPGs worth playing. They are both excellent games.

Thought I was the only one. I am playing through Dragon Quest III (GBC edition) on my cell phone. For such a simple game it is a ton of fun as it reduces the RPG down to its core elements, which is what I love.
FallOut3 (and most Bethesda RPGs) are classics.
I think most new RPGs today are trying to become to flashy and overtop. They are not remembering what made RPGs fun to play in the first place (for me) - which was a story of progression working to build your stats to become stronger in order to take on the ultimate evil. I miss the golden age...
To the Witcher comment, I agree - Why do RPGs today have to be so overtly mature and dark. While I understand there is a market for that, I wish some developers would bring back the cheery old school light hearted RPG. As mentioned earlier Dragon Quest being one of my favs. It would be so easy to update the graphics, throw in more sandbox like elements, expand the world to massive scale (thinking 2D 16bit sprites here) and to top it off make it portable with auto save anywhere. I would buy and play that in a minute.

I would add Deus Ex: Human Revolution to the list. Mass Effect 3 was not bad, but it was missing something. I personally don't like how restrictive level design Bioware uses. However, the overall story and the world building of the ME series was pretty solid.

1.) We are use to having more of a challenge and less 'hand holding' which has caused newer games having a 'simpler' time being just... not really that satisfying. Some of those tedious tasks from old games bring us an odd sense of accomplishment.
2.) Newer games for the most part are made for profit, rather then to deliver a new game. If you notice, a lot of the big game successes aren't from big developers, but actually indie games.Indie game developers often makes games for the sake of making a good game, profit being just a bonus to it.
If anyone, I'd say blame publishers for making game developers lives misserible and making it all about money rather then to make a rememberable experience.

No problem playing with old games alot. IMO, it's one of the luxuries of PC gaming, most especially if you have no qualms with mods that enhance and/or greatly alter the original gameplay. Some even change the setting and IP entirely, such as First Strike, a Star Wars mod for BF2142.

Nothing wrong with playing old games. There are tons of great games worth revisiting all the time. I play through Super Metroid about once a year. Same with Resident Evil remake. Great games are timeless.
IMO, the best consol games ever made:
1. Out of this World (sega genesis)
2. Landstalker (sega genesis)
3. Super Metroid (super nintendo)
4. Link to the Past (super nintendo)
I have to veto the list if no Contra or Zelda.
And for Super Metroid I could go with the orig. Either or on that one. I am also thinking need some twisted metal.
