So something strange happened

I'll admit it, I'm one of those formed UO addicts who played before T2A and has been routinely... about every 2 years going back to the game for a short period of time. I took a 3-4 year break from the game recently and generally when I go back it's almost to sort of, I guess, pay respects to what I consider the mmo that brought me my best online memories.

So although I admit it's rather foolish to expect a feeling of "nastalgia" each time I return I end up being a little more upset when I close my account. I read an interesting post stating veterans need to just jump into the game and play it for the game it currently is and not what it was then hopefully some old things will come back and you will hopefully enjoy the game. So, I took the advice.

I rejoined and was greeted by samurais... gargoyles...beetle mounts. The 10 million I had in my bank when I used to be rich was laughable at best now. All my items were obsolete but that's just fine because items were of "major" value back in the day. As I played for weeks just trying to wrap my brain around the mass of new crap one thing became painfully aparent to me. I was falling back in love with the game again! however on the same note it was upsetting me because the game is no longer about just getting to 100 skill and being casual. I had to farm gear now, loads of it. I had to farm a crazy amount of gold to even upgrade my character... to the extent ( within my current characters capabilities) would take me abotu 20 days of played time to upgrade my skills.

The game ( at least on my server) now feels to economized and overly saturated. I miss the days of running to a balcksmith who was actually there in person to hand you the gear. A server community where people knew each other. Now? it's on a vendor for an outrageous price.  I will admit I was happy to be back and that accepting the game for what it is now did make me feel like I was in a new adventure again. ( albeit not as good as before) :)

I had a similar experience.  Sort of like when I went back to SWG about 2 years ago. . If you can let go of the game you loved, which is hard, there is something there to enjoy still.

I even tried with The Realm and Meridian which is free now.  I might try UO again but when you go to a vendor and see those prices it is hard to imagine.    glad you like it sort of :)

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
