Idea for Cash Shops

PsychowPsychow Member Posts: 1,784

So, I'm one of those people who believe "If you didn't earn it in game, then it doesn't count". So a spiffy cash shop mount or shiny new piece of gear that was purchased via the cash shop get's a thumbs down from me.

But what if instead of just buying items in the cash shop and receiving them in the mailbox, the cash shop merely UNLOCKS a quest chain or task that much be completed IN-GAME and EARNED IN-GAME in ordert to actually receive the item that was purchased? The task could range from something trivial to something EPIC.

I think *my* cash shop bias would change because the player had to at least put forth some EFFORT IN-GAME in order to get that cool item.

The developers would still get their cash shop revenue, the players would still get their cool shiny and the non-cash shop players won't roll their eyes when seeing a sparkling pony that Little Jonny's mom bought him.

Thoughts?

DDO have had stuff like that for ages, and also sell stuff that raises your chanses for loot when you opens a chest.

So your idea works, it is just that someone already thought about it. :)

You're looking to fix an issue with yourself by trying to come up with ways to change something that other people enjoy in order to make it less bothersome to your personal sensibilities. At no point in your message did you state or infer that you would even buy from this shop, so who exactly does this benefit?

In your obsession with the amount of milk in the other guy's glass, you've basically suggested a system by which entire game content is gated behind money, a situation I would think you'd find more abberant than just the selling of items here and there. Or are you suggesting the content behind the money gate should be boring and tedious instead of fun and engaging?

As Loke666 pointed out DDO already has this. And if you look at it objectively, you basically described an expansion pack, which is something that has been around for 15 years. :)

Just trying to think of a way to change the view of Cash Shops from P2W to something game-related. At least for those people who have a similar view...which may not be many..apparently...

I'm sorry. I feel shame... image
