SO dayz is an FPS with zombies and when you die you have to start over....just like every other fps ever created. Why is this any diff than any other FPS?

Uh, that is a very broad description!

With DayZ you're thrown into a very large open world in which you're forced to fend for yourself. There are no rounds or missions to finish. There is no winner. Once spawned it's up to you to scavange for supplies, find food and survive for however long you can.

But I think what really differentiates it from other games is just how highly immersive the experience really is.

For an example - over the mountain is a large town and you make your way down and start checking out some buildings.. when all of a sudden across the street you hear running footsteps. Your heart starts racing and you wondier if someone is out there and if they know you're in there. Suddenly you realize minutes have passed and you've been sitting in the same position for five minutes not making a sound.

It's a genuinely scary game.. not because you don't want your character to die but because it's god damn intense. I mean I've been in firefights in this game that leave me nearly shaking when in others games it just has me on the edge of my seat.

There's much more to this game so someone might want to continue where I left off.

everything you said can be said of any FPS currently available. I still don't see the diff between Dayz and any other fps. you spawn you collect gear you die and start over same same.

I will admit though that the pvp fights posted on YOUtube are greatly ammusing to me I watch them alot. All the vids i have seen so far though only enforce my percveption that the game is a simple fragfest and gear is jsut a bit harder to find.

I would love to see this game developed into a MMO

For me its different because its far more frustrating that any FPS i have ever played.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

How many multiplayer FPS games are even just open world?  A persistent world? Or combine PvE with PvP? Some major elements that are uncommon, even if not entirely unique, never mind all the finer points that would take a lot more words to try to describe.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

its something that cannot be bought .

thrill, excitement, survival, feeling of victory or loss, real feelings, not honor badges or exp as a reward, real feelings are better reward.

Edit: Any other fps... well CS is still better, but if i compare it to BF or what the heck is that other.

It really comes down to immersion, but that differs from player to player.

There are people who treat it just as a deathmatch fps where they camp the bigger towns to hunt other players, others immerse themselves by sneaking around and scavenging.

It's supposed to be a zombie survival simulation, you're thrown into a 225sq km map and you pretty much just try to survive or hunt. The scale of the map alone makes it hard for players to find each other and shooting off your gun (that's if you've found one with ammo) is very rare.

Well, that's like saying ARMA II or any other tactical military shooter is the same thing as Counter-Strike because when you get down to it you're just spawning, killing people and dying. Or like saying that Gran Turismo series is pretty much the same as the TrackMania series because in the end they're racing games where you're pitted against other racers trying to get first place. These are very broad assessments because the gameplay for each of these games are very different despite being the same genre.

I guess it's something you have to experience for yourself. Just be careful on gameplay videos as they can be edited for entertainment as in my experience this game is in no way a fragfest. At least not in the sense of the definition. For me, personally, I get into firefights on rare occasions (and I play for hours on end).
