Pshaw...sure I do, as long as you think "just like me" and like exactly what I like.

That's ok, "Surly Old Internet Farts" are prone to hyperbole.  Specially if they come with purty blog gfx.

Eve sucks? KIDDING!! Put the bat down!!

I feel its because games such as Eve take a massive amount of patience to play. There is no instant gratification and instead progress is made through long term effort. This is daunting to even adults, let alone tweens who just want to jump into a game and have a quick giggle.

I don't know. I've met more 14 year olds that were polite and nice and more 40+ that were rude and acted like spoiled brats in mmorpgs.

Very true, very few young people in EVE, but certainly no shortage of obnoxious players.   image

    DEFINITELY too many children.

And the market is oriented at children by making childrens games more than adult oriented games.

Seems like cartoon/fantasy stuff still sells, but I hope the times will change again. People get older and want something different.

But I see some interesting titles coming up:

    World of Darkness by CCP

Titan (Hopefully sci-fi / dark) by Blizzard

and there is TSW by Funcom which is already out and pretty much child-free, mature community very enjoyable

Well I'm sure THIS has a lot to do with as well, as its how most new players feel when they get a bit deeper into the game.

Dude, do the same thread, from the opposite viewpoint--tomorrow.  See if anyone notices.

I think you see things differently as you get older and of course there are some decent young people. But in the past ten years things have been getting worse generally speaking. Its not the younger generations fault  . For example in the schools in the UK children don't fail at anything anymore . No one gets an F anymore . Punishments and disipline are so light the kids know theres no real sanctions against them anymore . We've spawned such a self indugant generation who are  full of their rights over their responsibitys . Theres even no respect for the law any more because they know there very little that can be done to punish them before they are 18 . Its societys fault because fundamentally this generation is the same as every generation thats gone before them but the way they have been brought up and the culture they have been subjected to has made them what they are . I think it will change because these things always do when things go to far ( as they did with the riots in the uk ) . We are asking searching questions now . Some of us want to leave the European Union so we can adequatly punish teens of 13-18 under the law and in schools . We are looking into the " no one fails " culture in schools and national service of some kind is very popular among the british public as a way of making young people aware of the responsibilitys .

when i see an age post i always want to say....

A: "OMG how dare these KIDS play GAMES?"

B: "um, yeah... thats what kids do...istn it a bit wierder that your playing games at 47?"

i am 47 btw, and it doesn bother me.  maybe because i have some kids  of my own and they play, so I get to see what goes on "behind the scenes", they are having more fun than me, and enjoying the game, in ... a different way.

Over my long years I've come to the conclusion that age is one of the least important factors in maturity.

I think the average age of P2P players is a bit older, but doesnt mean they are more mature.

Even in games where they have minimum ages required for the game, like Mortal Online, there are still 10-15 year old kids playing those games.   Most of them act like 10-15 year old kids, others act like adults, they make their character, they play the game and they enjoy the game.   They dont complain about not being able to fap to their female avatars butt as she runs.    But lets look at the gaming market in general.   Most gamers are pretty level headed and mature no matter the age.   But a very outspoken few are not.   And because of their need to scream and yell on forums, VOIP, and on the game chats, they often flood out the quite mature gamer.

The fact is mature and imature isnt an age thing, its a mental state.    And I admit at 35 years old, I sometimes enjoy letting go of all forms of maturity and just venting childish junk on a forum or over chat in game for a short while.    But I know what I am doing and it is not a regular thing.

Oh did I meantion, I like turtles.

Hate to tell you this boys, but the average median age of those working in the gaming industry would suggest that their target market is not adults, never has been.  Would you have set off to design a video game for your Dad?  I think not.  In the grand scheme of things, it is the adults who are invading the child's world, not the other way around.

Children are the wave of change... adults prefer the status quo.  And no, just because you can drive a car or buy booze doesn't necessarily mean you are an adult.  Playing video games proves you are adolescent at heart.

I would not say it's age, but rather maturity level. Some people just enjoy acting out like a immature little brat. Just my opinion. :)

I agree 100%. Sitting around playing MMO's is not a healthy things for kids, and in this day and age they need be taught a good work ethic rather than spending all their time sitting in front of a computer. They SHOULD be out working, helping pay the bills, and freeing up some of the parents time so the parent can be spending more playing mmo's.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

CCP can turn the spreadsheet thing into a marketing scheme.  "Eve Onlines teaches useful office skills to prepare you for your future career".

Read this paragraph posted in 2011

    The MMO Stats

The median age of an MMO player is 33, as compared to the median age of the general population, 35. People in their thirties make up the largest concentration of players, six times larger than the number of teens and three times the number of college students between 18 and 22. The average age for all online game players is 35 with 26% older than 50. 60% of the most active MMO players are female avatars who might or might not be women. (Data fromTotal Engagement)

This of course is just some quick google stuff I grabbed. Probably more in depth analysis is available.

Thanks. I don't get why my experiencne has been so different then. Maybe I'm playing the wrong games.

I think part of the issue is age vs. maturity.  The internet seems to turn ordinary adults into immature bafoons when anonymity is involved.

Perhaps their age is higher in EVE than in other games. However, when I played, there was a metric fuckton of immature asshats in that game. Maybe it is more like what other people are saying. Age does not equal maturity.

I'm willing to bet a lot of people see immature behavior and then just assume that the person acting out is young.
