So far from the things u ve seen ,in pvp beta or after launch, when u r a specific class lets say, engineer or a melee warrior, and u encounter a specific class ranger lets say in order to have more chances to prevail u need to do specific things(follow the manual) or improvisation is rewarded?
What i mean by that is concerning pvp, can u create some combat playstyle, type of strategies of a sort that are working and not many ppl are doing?
Or for example engineer vs ranger tyhe engineer must equip this weapon use x skill then x skill and x skilll after that?. Are there specific sequences that are a must vs specific classes?

Outcome of every fight is based on your weapon, choosen skills, your own gaming skills, dodge moves and statistics. Simple ?
Facing ranger I'm screwed as long as I'm having him out of range. He is screwed if I catch up to him. Also there are skills that allow me to shorten that distance. Those are gap closer and crowd control. So if you are mele class - always keep at least ONE skill that will stop enemy from moving for a second or two. If you don't have one, use weapon that have this kind of skills. As example I can leap to target while having short sword as main weapon. Some weapons have charge skills or something.
It's all coming back to simple rule - hit and avoid being hit. If you can dodge - dodge. If your stamina for dodge is recharging - just use some crowd control. Anything. Push back, stun, drop them on the ground, freeze them - whatever you can do - do it.
Having right skills and weapon is essencial and every combination have oposite combination that give you advantage over enemy. But truth is - you won't have time to switch weapon and skills to match your oponent. And until you fight - you have no idea what is his set of skills.
So choose skills you think are good for you and adjust your style to situation. If he has better range, keep him in range. Also learn his moves as fast as you can. Many folks in GW2 still play like they just went here from WoW and even when they don't have to - they are "doing their rotation". Amateurs like that are better for you because if you catch their rotation - you know when you can expect "heavy skill".
honestly, some class/weapon builds just arent best in 1v1 in all situations.
I play a guardian, and run into cases I was kited with nothing I could do, since I always play with a staff as my secondary weapon in WvW to speed up travel and block off keeps with LoW. So I have to rely on my two handers to do some good damage, but it doesnt always work like that in PvP.
you will get use to it. Thats why I learned, Guardians are like Paladins in Vanilla WoW/ TBC. You not really useful 1vs1 or in that sense. you are only useful when paired with allies around you.

You can switch weapon you know ? When I was using short word I was dodging and I was using leap to target. Now I'm playing as warrior. For short range I have hammer. Devastating weapon. On medium range I can leap to target if I have range. If they ganing distance or try to kite me... I switch to bow and I'm just trying to put them down or I stun them, close distance and switch to hammer.
Also I have additional skills that allow me to kick their ass and hammer have leap skill with wide range that you cannot escape after I jump.
