Why can't there just be ONE mmorpg that we ALL play?

SaunZSaunZ Member UncommonPosts: 472

Wouldn't it be great if there was just ONE big mmorpg game that we ALL played?  We could all level together, raid together, pvp together and have a real economy.  We wouldn't have to worry if somebody else was playing another mmorpg that might be better than ours.  We would all feel good about spending on a sub because we would have the participation approval of every other mmo'er.

I dream of the ONE mmo to be the end all mmo...

I'm not trying to troll but that game exists all you have to do is open your door and off you go. Into a full 3d rendered no fps lag paradise full of trading, pvp, ganking, adult content and all kinds of wonderfull people.

P.S. be careful who you duel.

    It's early, so I'll bite.

Because we are all different and like different things. If we didn't, life itself wouldn't be worth living.

    No it'd be quite horrible.

Just think about it, think about how many people actually "enjoy" World of Warcraft when it launched AND today. "One MMORPG to rule them all" would be absolutely terrible.

We'd then have to go on a quest for a mythical floppydrive (google it, if you're that young) in order to defeat the dreaded Lead Developer. One does not simply walk into Mordensu Games' offices.

Simply put, there isn't an MMO that offers all things to all people and even if there were, people would still find something to complain about.  As for raids, I wouldn't be raiding with anyone because raids have outlived their usefulness in my opinion.  This is an example of what I mean.  However, if a game could replace those raids with something equally as fun in the same game to do with others, maybe it wouldn't be so bad... but I imagine the client for a game like this would be 50 gigs and take 10 years to make.

    Proceeding with the Soc' interpretation:

Western culture is progressing more and more into individualistic ways of dealing with your day. Sitting for years next to the same person on the tram, while going to work, never speaking to him, until one day you dont see him anymore..then you just wonder what happened , for a sec, and then go on in your daily routine.

I think we are becoming more and more lonely and self centered with each day passing by, avoiding others because we might think they might violate our 2 min break or maybe we just dont want our shortcommings exposed.

But, there is something we cant change, without feeling bad and broken: We are social creatures, even if we act as the lonesome heroes at time. Loneliness just kills us.

So..where's that world enveloping mmo? (:p)

But isn't my point that we would all play and enjoy that single mmo because the creators would design it with all the content that you, me and everybody, liked?  We shouldn't limit the dream because of technical reason. I was just wondering if it wouldn't be great to have ONE mmo that we all played?

Simply impossible... Let me start with the basics - PvP. I loathe (fixed) faction-based PvP (like WoW, WAR and even GW2 uses in Wv3). Just give me a political sandbox PvP system like Lineage II uses (no corpse looting, unless PK where you chance to drop). Well, there you have 3 problems in one 'likings' already... And that's only the start of the problem to make the one MMO everyone will play...

-I want Shadowbane type map control (player housing, cities, owned land).

    -SWG style "classes"

-DAOC or GW2 style combat, doesn't matter to me

    -SWG style crafting

    etc etc...

Maybe we're all really in the matrix and life is one big mmorpg for a self aware computer.

“There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.”

NO. That would be horrible. I do not want to play ONE game for the rest of my life. And why do we need to do that together? It is not like you actually know me, or anything.

And why should i care about approval of other players?

    Nope.

No offense to anyone, but some of our regulars have some very strange and unworkable ideas about design (imo), and they'd make some truly awful games.

A diverse market is a good thing.  Someone can make their game, some day.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

    Tried it.

    Rewards suck.

    Endless grind.

End game is only obtainable by 1% who cheat or are gifted things by GMs.

    Economy is horrible.

    Community is horrible.

A.I. of enemies is horrible but the system rewards them anyway.

PvP is kind of fun, but one shot kills get boring and guards never seem to lose aggro.

Cheaters and exploiters are everywhere.  Bots even using mounts in some kingdoms.

Environmental effects are wonky at best.

    Devs never listen.

    Thinking about canceling...

The above exactly, what a boring world if we all liked and disliked the same things.

What would the setting be? Medieval, Cyberpunk, Steampunk, Old West, etc etc.?

Would it be hard or easy? Death penalties or no death penalties?

Would it have open world Pvp, only zone PvP, or no PvP?

    Subscription or F2P?

People want vastly different elements to their MMOs. For example I haven't found a mainstream MMO to be even close to "good" in a decade. I like it harsh, I like it difficult, and I don't like it F2P. However, the majority are casual gamers who want it easy, want it quick, want it F2P. So in a perfect world they would make MMOs for each different audience. Sadly in our world they make 100 MMOs that compete for 1 audience and ignore the rest.

NO. I don't wanna play with everyone.  Why?  Because many people have totally diffrent ideas about what is fun than me and peole than are like-minded like I and that ideas exclude my ideas.  So no thanks but no thanks. kkthxbye

Agreed 100%. For example, i probably can't stand anyone who would start spewing "thees" and "thous" and get offended if i don't respond.

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!

    nope.avi

simply because  i dont like the same things you like, and it would be pointless to include items you like in a game im playing. if i dont like them.

i get that enough with real life i dont need/want it in a game i immerse my self in to ignore people too

plus it would just make things confusing.  if the game is a realistic fantasty sci fi historical space crafting full loot pvp questing battle arena game.....

how would you explain that one O-o dwarf's wearing ww1 military uniforms shooting laser guns out of the cockpits of space fighters while crafting an iron bar in to a suit of armor ......

makes my head hurt just trying to comprehend how that would even be feesably possible..

Wouldn't it be great if there was just one resteraunt that we all went to.  That had all kinds of food and we could all meet there.

    or one college

    or one sport

    Well you get the idea

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

    --John Ruskin
