Anyone else just not like this game?

kingotnwkingotnw Member UncommonPosts: 103

Bought it... I figured if nothing else at least its actually F2P without strings... I just can't get behind it though. The graphics are fine and all, but I'm not a big fan of the art style. On top of that... This game is like a fast food version of every other theme park game out there. It seems to lack any kind of substance or immersion at all. I 'feel like I am playing a game' I guess would be the way to say it. However when I am playing a MMORPG, I want to feel like I am in a gaming world. Does that difference make sense the way I said it?

I know lots of you love it, and more power to you for that. I wish I did as well. Anyone else agree?

Then I can see why GW2 is not a game you like. I played and ended up hating Vanguard and I love GW2. You love Vanguard and not GW2. Makes sense to me that way.

Well it is themepark so i am not surprised what you were expecting from it? also it is not a secret that GW2 is designed in a way that you can stop playing and come back any time you want..

Where as 'immersion' is concerned it is very subjective thing so can't argue about that.

There's a lot of people that don't like it. It's really not that good.

You just said you bought it, it's not free to play. But I personally think the hearts and events are bland and were over hyped. Story is OK, but childish. Even if two plant men liked each other and they used big words, the story is simplistic.

Yet there are a ton that do like it. It's really that good. You say there are a lot of people that dont like it, like saying that makes it a failure. There is nothing in the world that has ever been liked by everyone.

I knew it was thempark... There are thempark games I like (EQ2 for instance). Unfortunalty for me, the style of mmorpg I prefer is a niche market now and that's just something I have to live with. I can't think of any coming down the line at all at the moment. I just was just hoping for a little more than what GW2 is I suppose. I just feel like I am in this cramped little area being led by the nose from one mob to the next. I think they could have done more with it, and still pleased the large majority of the players that love the game.

I'll come back to it at some point, probably in the near future, and try again.

I'm not trying to rag on the game, or it's player base at all. I hope nodoby takes it that way.

Game hasn't even been out a month. Come back in 6 months and we'll see what the popular opinion is.

Some games just will not mesh with your playstyle.

I will say though if you feel like you are being lead by the nose to just go off and explore the map. Forget the points marked and just explore the whole area. The starter zone is a little obvious but once you leave there I feel the exploring rewards you a little more.

Indeed. It's much better than just "that good".

MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).

Cool thing I learned recently was that the longer a mob is alive in the game, the more bonus XP you will get when you kill it. There were some minotaurs in an obscure area that I massacred (even the minotaur calfs), and all of them gave 200 bonus XP.

This game does reward exploration, be it Vistas, Events, Hidden Treasure, and old Mobs.

If you follow the personal story, which i am assuming here that everyone does..you are indeed lead by nose from one zone to another. Not saying that you can't  break the routine and go somewhere else but atleast for me it made me feel disconencted with path and theme of my personal story.

Just running around Charr lands...shit, the box price is worth every penny based solely on that. It's ah-ma-zing :) I love all the little details. No two spots look the same. Truly a work of art.

It truly feels like a world to me, call me crazy. But I stop and pay attention to my surroundings, sounds and all and I can tell the amount of handcraftsmanship put into it is mindblowing.

Worth every penny, if just to run around soaking up the environs. Sorry you don't see it the same.

I have a lot of friends who didn't start their story until way late.  Like at level 80.

I also have a friend who last time I saw, was doing level 26 story at level 19.  Haha, so super brave.  :D  Some people do story, some people don't.  It's not mandatory!

    ^^This^^

My friend and I are saving the Personal Stories to play together (since it auto-levels you for them) so all I've been doing is exploring.

Ignore the Hearts. Ignore the map. Just pick a direction and go.

I find the game to be a lot of fun that way.

(Not saying that this will necessarily change your mind btw - it's not "the game for everyone" regardless of what Trolls and Haters accuse fans of saying)

I never said it is mandatory. I said i am 'assuming' that everyone does it at some point or the other and especially if you start at lower levels it does lead you by nose from one zone to another.

Why do people start threads with rhetorical questions. There are always people who don't like something and always people that do. If this game had the story elements of SWTOR mixed with the GamePlay and more alive world of GW2, what a perfect game it would be. For now, I just love it anyway lol. I love exploring, love the visuals, love joining in with others. The only thing I don't like is the cheesy Iphone App like quality personal story cutscenes.

    There Is Always Hope!

There are many who enjoy this game.  I, however, made it to lvl 9 before I uninstalled.  Its just not my style of MMO. So, OP, yes I am right there with you.
