Can Mobs Steal From You?

CorehavenCorehaven Member UncommonPosts: 1,533

My friend and I are pretty new to GW2.  We had noticed that in particular the "Cutpurse" mob has a "steal" ability.  What exactly does this mean, because he's insisting on keeping all his money in the bank because of it, and I'm thinking that's somehow unecessary.

If these mobs can steal, what exactly are they stealing?  Are items stolen out of your inventory?  Money instead?  If so does killing one earn back what they've stolen?  How exactly does this work?

I guess it's like the Thief abillity "Steal" which steals something from an enemy and uses it in combat. He's not exactly robbing you.

Yeah, they dont actually steal anything from you, just use your own weapons against you.

It means they can "steal" a skill, I think.  Doesn't actually take the skill away from you, just allows them to use it once, against you.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

it's a new anti-bot mechanism.  the npc's scan for people theyve seen more than once in 30min and take the loot you got back.

    That´s not true.  o.O

It´s a "thief" skill that allows the mob to use your weapon against you like they have said in the posts above.

The "thief" class can actually do exactly the same thing :)

On a sidenote... *resists the urge to complain about anet taking weeks, before they ban reported bot groups*

the ability only steals abilities from you, temporarily and won't effect your combat usually just steals an ability based on your basic class. For example, if you are a thief it would most likely steal a poison ability. Thieves have a steal ability but don't go around stealing items from people in spvp or WvW.

I do however miss the standard steal ability or even the ability to gain extra little baggies with goodies in them from the humanoid mobs. That would have been a nice touch for the thief class. :)
