In another thread, someone mentioned that if they could go back in time to before they tried SWTOR, they would tell themselves "save your money and wait for free to play".
That got me thinking about this concept - both with regards to TOR and other MMOs. So I'll tell you where I stand on it and you can tell me where you do.
I expected TOR to be pretty bad. I was a staunch critic of it on these very forums and I had pretty damn low expectations. I expected that the game would be good for a month or two of great storyline and nothing more. So I bought it at launch with that expectation and even there I was disappointed. The story was pretty terrible and the game lasted me less than 3 weeks.
That being said, I have absolutely no regrets about buying it. Sure, it wasn't as good as I had expected, but I did get my 2-3 weeks of fun out of it. And if i had the chance to go back, I would do the same thing all over again.
There is just no way I would want to wait for months to form my own opinion. Nor would I really want to have my first experience with this - or any - MMO when it goes through an F2P transition. There is something about playing a game on launch - when it is new to you and everyone around that simply cannot be re-experienced when joining a game months later when the majority of the population is at cap.
And I feel this way about most MMOs, not just TOR. I bought Rift and played for 3 months, I bought TSW and played for 3 months, etc. And even though I eventually figured out that those games aren't what i'm looking for, I still say that: NO, i absolutely would NOT have wanted to wait until F2P. It just isn't the same.
