So what sets this apart from an expansion to the original title?  Is it just because they are getting rid of the massive amount of time dedicated players spent playing it, by deleting their characters?

It is a bit silly to have it on the hype meter for a game in development when the game has been released for quite a while.  Unless having it there is a jab by calling it a game in development still, which I could understand and laugh at such a joke.

They want to charge for a new game, probably 40 or 50 bucks becouse an expansion will only allow them to charge 20 or 30. And I will probably buy it even if I didnt played the first one, only on a trial.

    Star Wars Galaxies.

Now do you have an answer for me?

And that "expansion" was called the NEW GAME EXPERIENCE.

    NEW GAME, eh?

What makes this different from an expansion? How about, virtually every piece of the game being rewritten and changed? Progression system, siege mechanics, engine, character models, armor, weapons, physics, lighting, music, dungeons, game world, boats, classes, UI? It'd be easier to name what has NOT changed. (which is pretty much nothing)

What's more, your theory that they're money grubbing holds no water, because all past owners of Darkfall get Unholy Wars for free.

I will put it this way, OP has had a very butthurt weekend and is looking too deeply into this relaunch.

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.

It is a new game because the engine got revamped and core gameplay was completely changed. Things got changes so much that they couldn't carry over data.

There is not much info out for the game but what we saw:

    -character specialization

    -danger levels ( for ressources)

    -the Feat system

-a really good looking lightning+enviromental sound system

-various changes from the original game ( First Person Meele )

-multicore support ( which alone requies a new/revamped engine)

And because of geniuses like you they even made the offer that owners of the original darkfall don't have to pay for the game, only get a monthly sub.

Not even expansions from other major companies are that cheap.

So you could even call it a new game for free.

    - The entire world is redone

    - Brand new UI

    - Brand new character development system, how you level, classes/roles, all new armours and how they work

    - New sounds, improved graphics, shadows, music, animations

    - Lots of differences to the engine, most notably multicore and load lag fix

    - Traits, progression feats, clan progression, siege system changes to include villages

    - Alignment system completely different without chaos cities

    - Safe zones

    - Tons of features...

    Definately a new game..
