As much love as I have for VG, I used to think that as well.
But, I have to admit that the new lead has impressed me so far. This very extensive write-up of their plans going forward does give a lot of hope. He and the new team have delivered so far, so I have no reason to doubt them at this point.
I currently have another MMO for my main, and it's been this way for a couple years now, but I still watch VG closely. There's just something special about it. Maybe that's only true for those of us with deep roots in EQ.. I don't know.. But I am happy it is finally getting the attention it deserves (VG).
It is a good game and has a lot of unique things like the crafting and diplomacy I would not want it to die. Hope it improves more I played it a lot a few years back and I am hoping to return one day soon.
vanguard is really a classic mmo, although theme parkish it has a huge world with very good crafting and unique diplomacy. The developer is on the right track by working on perforrmance and animations. Right now no matter how good a computer you have there is intense lag and thus animation problems, which improve a bit if you have an SSD hard drive. So get those taken care of FIRST and then concentrate on the rest or people will check in and quickly check out
I have no real fps drops to speak of, only thing is when I change chunks, it takes 2-3 secs.
The first part of that post I really like, improving performance and all that jazz, because I know many still have a lot of issues, and the game is poorly optimized.
This quote however:
"Unfortunately, it's not quantity alone that holds an audience over the long term, but quality of content. And quality is one of the places that Vanguard has always been most lacking. Bugs, poor implementation, and overcomplicated design have hindered wider acceptance of the game"
That sounds SCARY, it really does. What I imagine is smaller dungeons, with questgivers just outside the dungeon. Streamlined and linear. But maybe thats just me.
Other than that, it does seem SOE is taking vanguard seriously, and are in it for the long haul. Seems we are getting an even better f2p down the road. Happy times ahead !

SOE now wins best MMO company.
Most MMO companies say
"What 99% of the game can we take away from free players?"
SOE says
"What can we give free players for their most enjoyement, but make members have even more fun?"
