Interesting how JA's response to criticism and technical discussion is "That guy looks like a little kid banging on the keyboard and screaming" and his response to clear evidence of his lying is "You have some agenda and are misinterpreting me".
I'll be popping in once every few weeks to see some developments. All this is ridiculously silly (except Shorty and the technical talk).
Thank you for the kind comments.
I am just a gamer that read the game concepts and became interested. As stated in my earlier posts I have no agenda.
It is a plus here for us that the CEO/Developer has an mmorpg account and actually uses it.
It is unfortunate that he is using it to flame/troll.
I doubt that the questions I posed will ever get answered due to the fact that he might have violated mmorpg rules of conduct.
I have no idea if he did.
If this game is ever made and becomes a true sandbox with , no cash shop, no auction house, no worldwide chat etc:, but with a lot of tools to enhance the game, then It would be my permanent home for a long time.
Good Luck
I don't think Jason broke any rules. In any case I have answered your questions to the best of our ability at this point in time.

www.greedmonger.com Did you like Ultima Online? Then you'll LOVE Greed Monger!
1. Will you be now adding a subscription to the game.
2. Will you have an Auction House? From reading the Kick Starter page I got the impression there would not be one.
3. Will you be adding a Cash Shop?
4. Will we be seeing new planets in the future? I got the impression we would. (Space Ships)?
5. Will there be land available to players that have not been a part of the early fund raising at release?
6. Do you plan to support other RMT besides the selling/purchasing of land or do you plan to police RMTs?
7. Are you making an online casino disguised as a game ?
Thanks in advance.
This post has been edited to include question 7.
Ok these are all very valid questions. Some of them can be answered some can't for different reasons.
1. At this time we don't know. We will be discussing it and are hoping to work something out with the Developers of Hero once we are further along in development. We really want to stick to our stated design goals though if at all possible.
Understood, but this leaves a lot of open doors to change the game drastically from the stated concept that was advertised on the Kick Starter pages.
2. There will be no Auction house in game like you find in WoW and other Games.
Your response to this question seems to leave the door open to some type of hybrid in the future. Can you close the door?
3. This is being discussed so we aren't ruling it out but nothing is final yet. Again we really want to keep to our original goals as much as possible.
If you could restate your original goals here for us at mmorpg I would appreciate it. Websites change so often. This would give us something to refer to in our future discussions pertaining to this game.
My opinion is that a game that proclaims to be "A crafting focused sandbox mmorpg"would have little to no room for a Cash Shop.
4. Can't say anything concerning this. You will just have to play the game and uncover the story like everyone else!
You were able to hint at it in the Kick Starter . Pipe dreams?
5. We will be launching with the said 6,000 parcels of player owned land. Out of which 3,000 is already accounted for. Information on how we will be releasing the other 3,000 will be released in the future.
Vauge response, but I guess we will be following the updates and see what you guys actually do. I am guessing that realeasing a game that is sold out of land spaces prior to the game actually being released is not in your best interest to attract customers in the future.
6. This is really unknown at this time. Most options for generating revenue in order to comply with Hero's terms are being left on the table. Will it include RMT that's still to be decided (Personally hopefully not).
My thoughts on this is that if it means that you need to deviate from the original vision to comply with their terms then you are in the same position as if you had dealt with a publisher such as EA. Why use Kick Starter if this is what you were trying to avoid?
7. NO we are not creating a Casino disguised as a Online game. Personally I feel Casinos do much more negative then good!
Some discussions I read prompted me to ask this question.
I thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions. Best of luck to you and your team in the future.
I look forward to observing the development path and the finiancial module you ultimately choose, and be able to discuss them. I don't envy you for your job:)

Get used to it. There will be haters and fanbois. (supporters/nonsupporters) I am neither. I stumbled on your game here on mmorpg and it caught my interest. I have read the good, the bad and the ugly. Don't let them bait you into irrational responses.
Seeing that you actually use these forums, I suggest that you use it your advantage.
Keep us informed of the development of the game, don't advertise, don't troll, don't flame.
Edit to include.
One of the biggiest mistakes that I have seen in the past is that developers tend to listen to the backers, forum members that yell the loudest. The released game is no longer their vision, but a complete abstract. Try to stay true to your vision.
Try to release the product you promised.
The internet is an unforgiving medium. You disappoint the backers/supporters of the original vision, (stray) and some of them will follow you to the ends of the internet for years.
Their issue with you might be ligimate because you might not be able to deliver what you promised.

Just because hes the leading his crew and doing updates on his own game doesn't mean he doesn't care. He asks our opinion on ever thing that is up for debate. I am not sure if you are insisting that he needs to be here more often. If you are, I really could care less because i'd rather not have GM hyped up the extreme as SWTOR. We the people in GM are looking for a small tight community that sufficently runs on that type of group. The avg amount of players of 150k would be just great.

We aren't going to turn into some Elitest community! Everyone is welcome to join GM. We would really love to see just how big GM can become. When Jason and I first started our KickStarter Campaign we were expecting at most 1,500 of our parcels to be sold. We more then doubled that. GM really has the potential to be something big! It's just up to us Developers to make the best choices for it's future success in order to see just how big it really can become.
I'd really be happy with just 10,000 players where we are starting out as a completely unknown, unproven indie team but if it had 100,000 or 200,000 or more active accounts I would be beyond excited! I'm just happy to be living my dream!

lol I haven't answered much of your further questions because I just can't at this time. This switch to HeroEngine is new to us just as much as it's new to the community and we are still figuring out how we are going to proceed. Our main focus right now is on trying to make sure we can still have our Alpha as close to April as possible. Once we have a playable game we will discuss things with the Developers of Hero and see if something can be worked out between them and us and then once we have some solid information we can discuss we will then let the community know and open dialog with them concerning our future plans.
When we started out with our first KickStarter Campaign our intended goals then were to have a Free2Play Sandbox MMO that was supported by Parcel Sales and a percentage of the final Auction sale price from players selling their land. No in game Auction system for items, weapons, armor, and the like. No Cash shop. AND above all no Pay2Win features (Though some say the parcel system is Pay2Win though you can still play with out the need for Land). Even with our Switch to Hero those remain our target goals. Can they be accomplished I just simply don't know right now.
As for other Planets yes we mentioned that that was a possibility but that is really all I am currently at liberty to say. Jason being our PR guy makes all of our official announcements concerning new features and things. I can just share what has already been announced or being the Lead Programmer I would be the go 2 person for technical Questions.

Stay true to the vision, if you developers become slaves to an engine developer, or a publisher, or your forum warriors then your game will stray significantly from the original vision as advertised.
Looking forward to when you can answer my questions.
Just watch the interview with Markee Dragon. That'll pretty much sum up the "experience" this lead developer really has.
Kickstarter, while a great concept, shouldn't be abused like this. A second round for more money? Really?

Kickstarter, while a great concept, shouldn't be abused like this. A second round for more money? Really?
Sadly, it seems to becoming more common. A coworker's company did the same thing with their game and just made up fake goals/stretches to get more money to finish their game. They did get successfully funded a 2nd time and put that money toward trying to finish what they originally said they'd do and are hoping to ride some money from it once it's done to do what the second kickstart said.
It's interesting to see you GM guys commenting and I think that's great, but wow this thread doesn't look very productive :P

Including your contribution to the thread I think this is a very productive thread.
We have been asking the developers questions in this thread and they have taken the time out of their busy schedule to post their responses here.
You arrived in this thread somehow and decided that it's unproductive.
Feel free to move along while we continue our discussion.

6. This is really unknown at this time. Most options for generating revenue in order to comply with Hero's terms are being left on the table. Will it include RMT that's still to be decided (Personally hopefully not).
The KS campaign stated the following
Will there be upkeep costs on my house?
No upkeep costs are planned for Greed Monger be it real money or game currency. We are expecting our commission on Estate Auctions should keep us funded enough for future development. The purchase of vacant parcels are just paying for the development of the game and the reselling of Estates are what will be helping with future patches and additions.
What caused the change that subscription and item mall are now possibiities?

Money, because their business model just don't add up on paper. There is NO WAY that they can run the game with 15% sales tax on parcels alone. Just do simple math, even if 50% of ALL 6000 parcels change hands every month (very unlikely) and they will go for $100 per parcel (again, very unlikely) they will make $45,000 before tax to keep the system running. Pay servers, developers and Mr. Appleton also wants to take a paycheck home to his wife and children.
Not mentioning the fact that there is not even enough money to develop this game in the first place, that's why they try to get more money with a second campaign.

Thank you for your response. Hope the thread stays alive. I think it has generated a lot of questions, and some "honest" answers from the devs.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
"Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
