No thanks. This whole "import your friends into ESO" business will only work for friends who have also linked their accounts. And many might refrain from doing so due to already crumbling safety of web-anonymity.
Also, if you link your account, probably every single one of your friends on facebook will be able to see if, when and how long you are / have been playing ESO.
That doesn't lead to social connectedness, only to social awkwardness.
edit:
Also, I play MMOs to escape things like facebook where everyone and their sister always wants something or has some new thing he wants to tell everyone and his mother about. ...
I don't need that in my games, no thank you.
So true.
Integrating your MMORPG lifestyle into your Facebook profile is like integrating your crack lifestyle or gambling addiction on your Facebook profile. It invites people you don't want in your life into your life, and it gives the people who are in your life a window into your less-savory habits.
Just like you don't want your crack-smoking friends to say on your Facebook, "let's head for the spot tonight!," you don't want your guild lieutenants saying, "hey, we're heading to Onyxia tonight!" Do you really, really want someone from HR getting wind of how much you and your guild raid? Do you want chicks who are checking you out to know how much time and money you put into elves and orcs?
Look, I've played with some pretty interesting folks out in cyberland. I'm sure you'd meet some pretty interesting people smoking weed in a basement or sitting next to you in the slots room at the riverboat casino. But do you want to integrate these people--all of these people--into your life? I'm not sure you do in most cases.
This isn't about you, this move on TESO's part. This isn't about adding value to your experience. It's about them, the publishers, and their ability to access, sell, re-sell and commoditize your information and your social network. Because once you let them in (as anyone who has ever downloaded a Facebook app knows), they can make money off of you, even if you buy nothing from them.

I think they think they can use social media to boost sales, but tsw tried this with no success.
I just don't think there Is much cross over between people who use Twitter and Facebook and people who play mmos. The likes of Facebook seem to be for people with short attention spans, mmos require a big chunk of your attention. This sort of thing might work for some super casual game perhaps, or some trendy game that's "down with the kids" but not a mmo (or other more involved game like say civ 5 or shogun)
I just don't think "geeks" that like mmos like pointless shite like Facebook and Twitter. They seem to go hand in hand with crappy low brow television like the x factor and what have you.

As long as external social media sites are not forced or put you at a disadvantage I will try the game but if FB or twitter are forced in some way I will not only not play but be very vocal about why I don't.
Bad idea if not done right, make it option I can completely turn off with no degradation in gameplay and I'm cool.
Sadly, dumb repetitive things entertain people without ever getting old to them.. People still enjoy talking about bacon and laughing at Chuck Norris jokes in game chat. It's usually a sign of a low IQ.
The continued assumption that Intelligence Quotient is considered a viable, or even relivent in intelligent society is usually a sign of lesser education.
TESO needs only what any other Elder Scrolls game has.
1.Mood! A dust storm here and there like in Morrowind! Some blizzards here and there like in Skyrim! Some epic music to make you freeze in a spot and enjoy the moon! You know what I'm talking about!
2.Epic Story!
3.Nothing else!
Gondor has no Facebook! Gondor needs no Facebook.
I wish they take the person/s who are pushing for this "social" crap and boil them in hot oil.

Im sure FB and Twitter users can TAB Target, Mouse Click and Button Mash just as well as any Standard Themepark MMO player can.

Like everyone else has said this is a dumb feature that being added purely in the hope that it will market their game to a broader audience, bthis is something bioware would pull.

How weird is this statement coming from intelligent people?
Hey, don't misquote me. I said "to escape THINGS like facebook".
It was a hyperbolic statement, really. You could just read it as "I play games to escape real life when I want to". Facebook, at least for me, is a buzzing cesspool of people wanting to chat all day long because they don't know how to entertain themselves when they are by themselves. And when I decide to waste my time on my computer, I'd like to do something I enjoy. Mindless chatting about daily life irrelevances is no such thing.
And whatever do you mean by "weird coming from intelligent people"? Is it really that weird to want to have some time OFF from the ever-present moral duty of social connectedness? I mean, sure, I could just leave my computer off for a change, but I actually DO enjoy playing MMOs for the fun of it (as opposed to f.e. e-peen comparison, which is what "socially connecting" ingame affairs will boil down to eventually anyway) ...
"ESO will be the most socially connected MMO ever" eh? Interesting, considering that you can only interact with the three races that are part of your faction. Out of all your Facebook, Twitter and Google plus friends, I wonder how many of them you'll be able to force to play one of those three races?

Grateful for what!? The developers finally making a multiplayer version of TES and screwing it up by trying to copy the same crap the MMO genre has been spewing out at us for the past few years. Pull the block from out your glass and stop looking at it from only your perspective.
Look at the result of SWTOR trying to please the MMO crowd instead of appealing to KOTOR and SWG fans. The MMO people left the game within the first few months and you have nothing but the true SW fans playing an undefined game wishing it was so much more.
People who won't let the genre grow are the schmocks. People who think that every game has to be the practically the same to define itself as a "MMO". I didn't want a flipping Elder Scrolls MMO, I wanted a multiplayer version of my beloved game in an online persistant world. They did not have to make the main focus of ESO about a war. They did not have to force people into factions, they could have stayed true to the source material.
Most of us understand TES greater than the developers designing this crap. We don't know how bad they've screwed it up at this point, personally I'm hoping for anything above fubar. TES is about exploration, choices, freedom - you're naive to believe that they had to design it the way they did.
I'm not looking for an oppertunity to complain, I am heartbroken at another great IP going down a horrible road. I'm angry and expressing myself the best way I know how.

Starting to get worried about this title.

Oh! And don't give us that "Our engine 200 people derka derka blabla" crap!
Make the game look as beautiful as any other Elder Scrolls game or you will fail!
It's as simple as that!

Reading through these comments I've noticed a trend.
People like to complain about everything and anything including things that are optional.
