After playing since opening, and trying all the classes, and farming, and questing, and thinking, I have come to the conclusion that the complete lack of risk vs reward in GW2 gives it such a lackluster enjoyment factor that playing simply feels like an endless grind.
Once you get all your skills there is nothing left to the game. Ding 40? what's left other than gearing up?
Sure there are quests galore and....and....and......what? There is no carrot to drag you along.
Take WoW for example
What made Wow so enjoyable for me was the rewards for questing and the gear you get from doing dungeons. It kept me interested and chugging along even if all I did at cap was to make an alt to repeat the process with a class I hadn't done it with yet.
The fact that I HAD to play in an apropriate zone to progress was far better than in GW2 where it didn't really matter if I was in a HL zone....in fact GW2 punishes you if you are 40 in a 40 zone.
Here is to hoping FFXIV ARR itches the right spots cause GW2 is about as bland as a warm glass of milk.

Came here thinking it was a discussion about risk vs reward....
Shame on me
This has nothing to do with "risk vs reward".
Yeah OP, you might want to change your title to "GW2 has completely missed the ball on character power progression or something like that.
But then people will point out that it is working as intended, was never designed to provide endless vertical progression (though they did add some in recently) and was always supposed to be more horizontal with goals of just exploring the world and having "fun".

Im just pointing out what everyone else has already seen and the fact that the thread should be closed because it's a topic that is going on in many other threads.
Man you are sharp today.
Stats progression is imo boring and mindless.
What is better the sword with +400 attack and 5% crit or the sword with +600 attack and 10% crit?
I prefer incomparables - skills, traits.
That is also why I dislike the holy trinity.
Because if I go damage I can go all out damage since the tank and the healer are there - no decisions balancing damage vs defense and similar for the others-

Are you saying I'm not sharp other days?!

Shame on you!

The level cap is 80, not 40, did you really ever play the game? There are Dynamic Events, rather than quests. GW2 doesn't punish you for playing in an on level zone. The closer to your level, the better the rewards. Better still if you can tackle content a little above your level. GW2 does provide challenge/reward for doing lower level content via level scaling, but it will always be at some "discount" vs. what you can earn from doing on level content.
So, really, you just came here to poke at GW2, while promoting FFXIV ARR? When that doesn't pan out, you might want to give GW2 a try...
