I made exactly the same comments when I recently tried out the F2P.
They need to get on top of the chat in F2P games. No barrier to entry = anonymous = asshole magnet.
It's not a F2P problem, the chat was a terribad when the game still was P2P. It's more a problem with some exceptionally boring mindless trolls that found their home in Tera.
Very 4chanish/reddit/etc community from what i've seen. Kind of expected in a way, given the games general art style/atmosphere.

Rated M for Macbre. And "Mature". It's true, if you're easily offended you shouldn't play this game because it is all out in the open and no holds barred.
It also depends on the time of day, too. But yeah if you've never been to a bar and heard the kind of thing that is talked about in smokey rooms, then maybe TERA is not for you.
I downloaded it, created female character... got speechless... uninstalled immediately.
This game is unpleyable for females. Period.
generalize much? i happen to love the art and character models.. just have issues with other parts of the game
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

What's to like about them? But I apologize for generalization. Maybe I am just too old for that.
I'm a huge fan of anime and i'm used to the big boob skinny characters.. either way the models themselves i feel look great and move well i really don't see much not to like about them aside from the castanic running animation.. also find the armor artstyle to my liking as well

My wife, lvl 60 in TERA, says hello.
PS: nice "Slave Leia"-like avatar you got. Is this your SWTOR character?
I've got 5-6 female guildies who all play female characters too and one who plays castanic males for the abs lol. They like the outfits, but then again they are like 20-25 so thats probably why, older folks dont like these outfits much.

Do you do the same for MMO's that have males portrayed as hulking musclebound warriors with no shirts on? Or are you only offended by stereotypes of women? Don't you find that hypocritical?
Males are the ones who are unplayable IMHO. I rolled an elf, male, and face palmed at his 70's "girly" clothing style with nude torso/ sexy abdominal muscles. No way for me to find a decent male armor, same thing with castanic males, and thought this game was for... ladies???

Personally I do not like both extremes, but in case of Tera to be an equivalent between males and females, the muscles would have to bulge in pants to compare it/grin. I realize though that this is just my opinion, as it seems that there are women who enjoy this kind of... "art", I guess I am too traditional, I do not like over-sexualization in games. A little bit yes, but Tera took it too extremes.

Haha fair enough I guess...I tend to not take video games seriously in any capacity..regardless of content..well barring some totally extreme snuff film type stuff I guess...or if the game purposely demeans men/women on purpose(as in portraying women as slaves to men or vice versa). Personally I am not a fan of Tera for gameplay reasons...I did get a kick out of the overly muscular dudes and the ridiculously busty women in "Plate armor"...

PS: nice "Slave Leia"-like avatar you got. Is this your SWTOR character?
Obviously there is a big difference. I am not against a bit of sex appeal in video games. As you see I am not a stranger to it.
But there is some limit in my opinion. I just could not stomach TERA. In SWTOR sexuality is but a small part of female character, it's more about beauty of strenght, in TERA the feeling of being just a sexual object was for me overwhelming. I did not like the feeling of it. Maybe I am just too old

No problem, BTW I don't think TERA turn males or females into sexual objects...if you see it like this, there must be another problem...it's just the Korean art style, as you can see in their comic books/ anime (males look like strippers, same for female, but I'm over generalizing myself, it's not always the case) ...and by the way I prefer 10 times TERA's style to SWTOR's "old school" artistic direction...tastes & colors I guess ^^
PS: in SWTOR you have Twi'lek strippers dancing, but none of this in TERA. You probably chose the wrong race/class/armor because there are a lot of beautiful robes,dress/clothing in this game - not just 'sexy' stuff...why not roll a popori? I play a bunny, and my wife the fat pipe-smoking bulldog lol

Yes, there are Twi'lek slaves strippers in SWTOR, but to see them you have to go to cantina or Nar Shaddaa... they are not following you every moment of the game. Even these strippers though are nothing comparing to TERA characters LOL. And it's really not about robes, but the way characters move and react. I just don't like it.
We all have different tastes and likes and dislikes, and it's good. Otherwise life would be boring.
Well I guess I'm different since I grew up watching films like Conan the Barbarian, prob. got used to see half nude ladies carrying big swords in fantasy and not caring anymore lol

Yeah, this too^^
My wife and I were huge anime fans at art school, that's how we met...we did many anime cons together back in the day, I'm not into anime anymore but maybe that's another reason why I don't care the anime style in MMO?? I think what Bluehole did with TERA, animation wise, is nothing short of brilliant. You got to see that lion mount run, all angles...unbelievable

You say that, but your initial opinion of "this game is unplayble for females" because you personally have an issue with the aesthetics of the game is conflicted. You dislike the aesthetics so you don't want to play the game - that's fine. But the game is certainly playable for females, and I enjoy the aesthetics very much so as do many other female gamers. It's just very funny that you pick one of the skimpiest outfit you can find in SWTOR and then proceed to react in an appauled manner to Tera.
General chats are like that in every online game you go, this is a common behaviour in the internet, I blame it for the annonimity of the players and their age, but most importantly their annonimity.
People just let themselves "let loose" more when they are behind their screens, so you see all this trash talk, sexual subjects, name calling and general trolling, I'm 100% sure that if you meet those people in person, they would be the entire opposite person.
My best advice is, ignore the global chat, focus on the gameplay, join a a nice guild, people usually act a lot nicer in guilds, especially veteran players who got lots of friends in their guilds, I actually have a lot of fun in Tera both gameplay and community (not global).

We are not all bad honestly. But yes it is alot of nonsense in the chat. I think its just ppl being stupid and not knowing when to stop.
My advise, filter your tabs to avoid Global chat. LFG, Area , party , guild and system are all you need
