For starters the game can be VERY easy to dissmiss just by playing the early game, starting at the very limited characther creation to the VERY boring tutorial . It's like the Tutorial really likes to show what sides of WIzardry Online that is the worst, raging from snail scrolling dialogue text to very bad cutscene movies..(all skippable sure) , but you are still met with them , and it will give the "new player" a bad feeling for the game..
All that said, if you actually start to play the game (beyond atleast the first dungeon). You will find a gem of a dungeon crawler almost on par with DDO ...
But for me..I'm even having a hard time recomending this game to my friends because of the horrendeus and ugly start of the game..But normally they listen, maybe even this time
Nevertheless, The game is great so far, and hopefully we will get more of that "japanese" content ..
What I do not like is..
-Porkuls, what the hell ..Why not stay true to the actual IP of Wizardry, instead they give us Porkuls, I know it's created by a japanese developer but still , It woudn't hurt with some of the original races ..would it ?
-Limited characther creation , all characthers look very "clonish" Can't see the reason for this either, It's one thing that a game is oldschool and all, but a game created in 2013 after an oldschool formula doesn't have to be limited just because of this..and..The game has been out for a long time, why hasn't anything been done with this.?.
-Been said in every negative review of this game, the consolle scrolling dialogue text..Why ? Why not just change this , it feels as if the developer had thoughts in making filmish style dialoges ala Dragon Age with mute characthers and added the slow scrolling text instead. Well If that is the case ..you failed miserably. Everything about old games is not good, and this is one of them.
- respawn rate, the respawn rate is FAR to high, it' should not be possible for monsters to respawn in the exact same spot you are standing and not 2-4 seconds after killing the last..
- Sometimes , the combat clunkyness is the reason for your demise , with odd camera issues and targeting problems, but this is a minor ..but very annoying at times..
What I like ..
Well Dark and rather good dungeon design with a fun combat , well that is all that matters ..Is it not.
the fear of instant death looming around every corner , and the twist with PvP that also will kill you eventually, just by standing at the bank or deep inside a cave.
Ill give this game a 7/10 many minuses for the poor execution , there is no excuses for this, and it could have been a fantastic game if this is changed.
It's a good game that everyone that dares to press forward after the somewhat boring start should try,
Comments
Eh...Yes I gave some of those reasons myself. Nevetheless it's a great game
Also, It's a shame really because you are part of the reason it get's even more "stomped to the ground" when there really is a gem of a game to be found, certainly not for everyone thou..
But it has a healthy population , so atleast there is some that liked it and pressed on beyond the horrendeus beginning..
besides..it offers some features , not offered by any other game--
I'll give me pros and cons for this game, I played it for a week after release, and quit it without any regret.
Pros- The pvp adds a lot of fun to the game, even if your the one being ganked it creates a goal to accomplish (revenge), the pvp also helps to create a community of pk hunters.
The dungeons on the first run are fun
The soul system means grinding alts doesn't take so long, and they are very well geared off the bat
A dedicated player can keep up to a Pay to Play gamer
Cons- Despite I put pvp on pros, if you don't enjoy getting killed, or killing players, the pvp can be a downside by far
There is a huge lack of groups, I found most of the time I would be soloing no matter which class I played
Fighters are so OP it's funny, they can heal, deal multitudes more dmg then any class possibly could, and have range to boot, and of course take about 1/4 of the dmg any other class does. There's no point having 4 classes when 1 dominates all aspects of the game.
Most the dungeons look like their predecessors with just minor changes, not to mention you may find yourself doing the same repeatable quests 20x to just get to the next. Unreal boring! and I only got to level 12, getting to level 60 would probably have you repeating the same quests at least 500x.
Lack of classes and races as well, there's basically no customization in this game, everyone looks the same, and being certain skills are obviously the best, everyones skills are the same.
The graphics are horrible, sorry to say but Sony has no ability to keep up the the graphics of present day games, I just hope EQ Next isn't like this, I have high hopes for it.
The combat is rather generic and boring, the enemies move with ease and hit/dodge, but if your using a 2h you find yourself so slow to swing and miss you get your butt kicked, not to mention certain mobs have perma-stuns. You can't hit them back since they stun you for 6 seconds, hit you twice and re-stun you.
A large portion of the player population that would have joined didn't wait for the original game load time bug to get removed (For the first 3 days it took 15 minutes to log into the game, and 5 minutes for each zone to load)
From this judge the game yourself, it's a free to play game so you can always download it, and get up a few levels to see if it's your style, but I wouldn't reccomened it to anyone, other then people that love to gank lowbies and feel strong doing so. (I'd be glad to have rid of you in this game lol)
