I disagree is like swtor, due to end game. Swtor is a glorified lobby game once levelled, like all wow clones, just sit in cities being to go to some instanced shit in a small group. Well tes doesn't have arena or bgs and has rvr, so at least pvp wise its not a lobby game. Pve wise the game has open dungeons like daoc, EQ & ac, that's very much not wow clone. I also would not be suprised if the game had big outdoor inclusive raids in the vein of daoc / coh & gw2
Also Mael - tes doesn't have pvp (or group pve) so in a post about why they picked rvr as the pvp system, there is no equivelent "pvp wot tes fans like", that all depends on what other games they play. They may like rvr, they may be anti pvextremists they may like ffa gankfests.
If we were talking about the way quests are presented and stuff, then the "fans of tes" would be included in my post, and absolutely quests should work like they do in tes, not wow style quest hubs.
1. I suggest you read the bio of King Emeric. There is nothing in there going against the petty warlords and kings lore. In fact, Emeric is one of them. He married a Redguard princess. It also explain why the Orcs joined the Covenant.
2. And what do you think the TESO RvR is going to lead to? The best player is going to be the Emperor, until he lose the captital to another player. Probably every freaking weeks. It's litterally: "petty warlords had attempted to seize control of Cyrodiil's capital and to reestablish the Empire. None of them lasted for long" .

Did I just betray my faction to claim the crown?
But how can that be? I am a Breton and ALL Bretons are the same faction so I cannot have betrayed my King, the system doesn't allow it.

We don't have petty warlords but 3 factions comprising 3 entire nations in each faction...not petty in my mind.
If there were petty warlords that would make perfect sense to have guild conflics as the main thrust of PvP combat rather then 3 way factions. The lore says petty, the game says 3 entire nations - Not too loose is it?

You keep supporting their design if you want. You blindly defend it while I show you the holes. You won't accept them, fine, but please keep replying because the more you reply the more others will be able to look at the game design and see the problems. So stay a hardcore defender, it really is helpful.
Guild leaders and players are the petty warlords. That time period is in the middle of Tamriel Dark Ages (as per the single player games lore). This mean most historical facts are unknown/forgotten hundreds of years later. We get to live them in TESO and record them. Looks like some of the petty warloards were actually supported by large geo-political factions. It doesn't change anything to what came before or after. It is simply additional infomation because we get to see that time period (as opposed to read about it in the Pocket Guide to the Empire which is propaganda for Septim Empire).
Finally, you won't be betraying Emeric. The official website sayd: "Whoever controls the Ruby Throne will crown an Emperor, and their alliance will rule all of Tamriel." The faction select an Emperor, which of course piss off the other faction, so you never end up ruling all of Tamriel...
Not defending their design choices - but as I will be trying this anyway - it is best to look at it as a sort of 'War of the Roses' - with the various faction leaders being 'Kingmakers' who put a patsy on the Imperial Throne;
... best of both worlds - if the other factions give in when a faction 'player' becomes Emperor the Faction leader can pull their strings or assassinate them later. If it doesn;t work out they are still sitting pretty because the puppet on the throne got it in the neck - they didn't.
This part of the rationale works fine - and nothing in lore undermines it.
The real problem is the 'invisible walls' or 'you just can't go there' approach to other faction areas...
... it's crapola - if I want to risk going there I should be able to go - period...

Yeah I agree, you should be allowed to go there- (not safely however, you should suffer dearly for getting caught mucking about on your enemies' lands) but for them to do away with the option entirely makes me feel uncomfortable. A lot of people say that it's like "well you couldn't go to morrowind when you were playing skyrim and ... blah" but those are different circumstances. You couldn't go to morrowind when you were playing skyrim because the morrowind map (or what would be left of it) wasn't in that game. Given that there is now this whole world that's presented to us- in this game- it's more like well I couldn't explore half of skyrim because I was part of the Imperials.

I had this argument come up in another thread, I didn't get around to adding more of my $0.02 before what I had to say felt irrelevant so I'll add it here, thus giving me a total of $0.04 on the subject.
Everyone forgets that Vanilla WoW, and Burning Crusade both had the Maelstrom and Northrend visible on the map. You couldn't get there, but it was there on the map. Then, when they launched WotLK you could alluva sudden fly around Azeroth, all the way up North etc, yet couldn't manage to fly your epic mount into the middle of the ocean to check out the great Maelstrom for yourself? I'm sorry, I thought I was flying an epic Netherwing Drake ffs! ... Rant aside.
Blizzard realised having points on the map to expand gameplay towards was a good thing, gave devs a direction for development...
What's to say in a years time, we won't be seeing skirmishes on the borders, spy missions or diplomacy behind enemy lines, dare I even suggest it, invasions of foreign kingdoms?
The maps are there. We cannot assume they are going to be forever, expressively forbidden to us, when we have nothing to base that fear on.
It isn't that the maps are there but you can't go there yet though.
The maps are there and unless you are a certain faction you can't go there. It isn't something to look forward to. Unless you create an alt you will never see the place and if you just want to play with your main character NEVER be able to go there.
Big difference between "can't go there, doesn't exist in game yet" and "can't go there, system mechanics are blocking you and always will".

The devs already said they didn't put everything in at launch so they could add new content. To achieve this they chopped the provinces. Fans on another forum made a map based on all the interview informations. You can see the entire discussion here and the final map they came up with. It's probably off in places, but borders between provinces other than Cyrodiil are all blacked out (the Reach, the zone between High Rock/Hammerfell and Skyrim, should be black too I think, because otherwise EP players have way more content than any other faction...).
