Well, I've been thinking of finally giving TERA a shot for the first time, and I've been having a hard time deciding on the NA or EU servers. I'm an NA player myself, but I don't care too much about ping with my connection, so that shouldn't be much of an issue. I had also heard the EU version opened a few new servers recently (Is that right?) and I figured that would be a good place for new player to start, versus one that's already heavily established.
The thing is, I've also read quite a few horror stories about that GameForge company that runs the EU servers, as well as the community not being as good as the US (having a hard time believing that, honestly lol), so I'm not sure which to go with at this point. I notice the NA version has an RP server as well (I always play on them when I have the choice, as the community is typically better), but I guess the population isn't too great on it, compared to the regular pve servers.
Anyway, all that hearsay said, I was hoping some of you might be able to give me some opinions on the different experiences you've had with both versions of the game (the companies, the communities, servers, etc), and maybe even some suggestions. I know it likely doesn't matter much either route you take in the end, but I figured it couldn't hurt to inquire about it anyway. I'll probably be installing the game sometime this weekend, to finally give it a try.
Thanks in advance .

From what I've seen, the item mall prices in the EU are significantly more expensive than what you'll see on the U.S. servers.
You should probably care about ping. This is not an MMO where you can stand back and press buttons for your hot keys and do little else. Regardless of your class - healer, tank, etc - you will need to regularly move around. This includes hopping out of the way of attacks, side stepping or plain running away from impending enraged BAM attacks, and so on.
It all gets a bit simple once you learn what to look out for on a particular mob or BAM, but you're going to either stress out your healer or possibly get your character or someone else's smooshed if you can't react in time.
Oh I'm well aware of how the combat is in this game, it's just I've played others with "real time" combat of sorts on EURO servers, and the ping never made much of a difference, even in pvp. In fact, I played on a game with a server hosted in the Netherlands and my ping never got above 111. That said, it's really not a deciding factor for me.
Thanks for the post.
I remember on their websites they both offered a demo. The demos would source to the server hosting them so maybe try both souring hosts/websites and try the demo on two different classes for variety for the demo to help you with your decision.
I played both EU and NA betas as I couldn't get enough.
I found the NA servers to be more populated but the EU servers more cooperative (to a point). That said the community has changed quite a bit since then.
Hope it helps

I think I've actually decided to go with the NA servers. I wasn't aware that they had also opened a new pve server there too, so I'll probably give that a try. I'm also interested in the RP server, so I think this version is a better fit for me.
Thanks for the post, nonetheless .
