A chance for immersion and "RP" - make yourself heard

For those that are into "roleplay", story, immersion... those that rant repeatedly on these forums, and on other boards.

Times are dark and dire. I see almost nothing on the horizon that gives me hope. Themepark and kill-10-rats seems to be all that interests the big titles. There is some indie-plans that sound good. But only the heavens know when, and if at all, they will see the light of reality.

One game that has potential IMHO: Darkfall Unholy Wars. Looking at the basics, the mechanics, the art... it would be a great world to get immersed in. But to be RP friendly, those cats over there would have to take that crowd into account and acknowledge them as an interesting market, aside from what Darkfall 1 had as a crowd.

I think the developpers are "Indie" enough, they are clearly not catering to the mainstream. For them a smaller crowd like old-school players and RPers might be a significant market.

I posted at their forums, in the hope of getting them interested in us. There's an old poll there, where roughly 30% of the participants stated to be avid RPers. Yet Darkfall 1 did not specifically target them. Which makes me wonder: If a third of your player-base has a preference for a certain play-style. Why not listen to them? Why not do, what no-one dares these days? Why not give them an RP server? And see what becomes of them. Listen to their input. Try to make that game something that many of the old-schoolers here are aching for? At least on one server?

Anyhoo, here is a link to my post there: https://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?358751-Take-the-RP-crowd-into-account-They-are-many-and-currently-no-one-satisfies-them.

The cats doing darkfall are not mainstream, I think. They might listen and might get interested in what we have to say. The game has the potential to be immersive, I think. Maybe they only need a proper nudge. I think their target market is also small enough, so that enough voices might make them see that there is another target crowd out there, that is currently lacking a game to have fun with: An MMORPG that is actually a game, a challenge, immersive and fun to play. Not a grind and a waste of time.

If, instead of whining, you think it is worth a shot to make yourself heard at a company that I don't think is depending on millions and millions of the sheep-crowd, and that might get interested in doing something a bit off the mainstream... I heartily invite you to voice your opinion there.

The prevalent opinion of MMORPG makers these days seems to be: Dumb it down so hard, that even sheep will enjoy my game. Darkfall is obviously not designed for that crowd. Who knows? Maybe they will get interested in filling the current vacuum that many of us longe for.

Cheers,
