Defiance will unite the platforms across PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in April 2012.

No it will not. They have said repeatedly that each platform will have its own servers. PC will not play with console.

I assume you are looking at an older article based on the CES show display. At CES they had the display put upshowing the game play, and it had a server owned by Trion allowing a couple PC players, a player on Xbox360, and a player on Playstation 3 all playing together on the one server.

So on the games end it can communicate cross platform, but Sony and Microsoft refuse to allow for the cross platform communication (security reasons?). So Trions announced later at CES that it each system would have to have their own servers.

    Not so nice guy!

They might be able to unite instant groups just not open world servers, who knows at this point.

Anyone who has watched the IGN "Hour with defiance" video knows. The developer says, even though they proved they could do cross platform, it will not be in the final game do to first party reasons, first party being Sony, and Microsoft.

Is it the overview of happenings at MMORPG.com email that goes out every month? If so t was most likely the article written from the CES preview of the game, and I guess was not corrected.

I suggest trying to watch the video on youtube from IGN called, "An hour with Defiance" it gives a lot of insight to how the game will play, and what it is like.

In my opinion it is just like most other MMO's out there, but wih a sci fi theme, and here is where I get really interested...the FPS is REAL! It's not click on a target and hit the auto attack, then spam 1234 for special skills.

There is more damage for head shots, in some cases more damage for groin shots, so it isn't just based on your charachters skills and abilities, but will be based on your skills and abilities.

Firefall is also a first/third person shooter MMOG.

I did not play Firefall, but from the video I just watched, it does not like like there was any player FPS skill required, it looked like WoW where you clicked on a target and hit auto attack, while spamming charachter skills and abilities...

Defiance seems to actualy require some FPS skill such as getting head shots for higher damage, cycle your guns from ranged to close combat, using melee when needed, etc...

Everyones opinions of course will differ, but back to the Original topic, no the servers will not be cross platform, they will be hardware specific.

I am...dumbfounded...what video were you watching?

There is no auto attack in Firefall or spamming of abilities.

Play a recon battleframe, aim for the head with sniper rifle, and do greater damage.

So how can Dust 514  on PS3 be connected to the same sandbox servers the PC players are on?

CCP are better negotiators or what?

    They aren't.

Dust players have their planet-bound environments and interact through text with market, chat, and corp UIs.

Your guess is as good as my guess. Look at Final fantasy, it played cross platform with very little issues....

Perhaps it is an issue with Microsoft vs Sony, PC not being an issue?

Yet here we are with yet another game that has proven they can make it play cross platform, yet will get released with out it.

Because they aren't. There is no way for a PC player to enter the world of DUST 514. The only way they are connected is through a shared chat service, and auction house basically.

Honestly I think it's more Microsoft than Sony. They probably don't like the idea of them playing with people who don't have to pay to play online. Might give them ideas...
