What strategy games let you have a massive army?

TheScavengerTheScavenger Member EpicPosts: 3,321

Most strategy games, they greatly limit your army...200 max. Almost every strategy game limits it to 200. Not sure why 200 is so common and some kinda magic number, but it is. And sadly its the vast majority of strategy games.

Where are the thousands or tens of thousands against thousands or tens of thousands?

We have Total War, Supreme Commander...and...Mount and Blade (sorta) if you get mods that make it more of an action strategy game.

Maybe some space 4x games let you have a big army, but I haven't seen one where you get thousands of ships in a massive fleet, but maybe I missed it.

So, as far as I know...there is only 2 strategy game series, and sorta a 3rd if you count that, that let you have a massive army.

Am I missing any or is having a huge, massive army just a really really rare thing in strategy games?

Well, you have the grand strategy games like Victoria 2, Europa Universalis and the already mentioned Crusader Kings 2. There you can have huge armies but Im not sure if that's what you're after since you mentioned "action strategy games".

If you just want tons of units on the screen at the same time you can always try AI War, you can have tons of units at the same time. Otherwise you have the game you already mentioned like Supreme Commander and the Total War games.

Europa Universalis III is a good one, I got the Chronicles (all expansions) sometime ago and enjoy it for when I want to really get down for an epic strategy game. But it isn't really what I had in mind, but I do enjoy it.

I know there is the new Rome Total War coming out, and I'm REALLY looking forward to it. Its gonna be a day 1 buy for me.

Perhaps the King Arthur 1 or 2 games or Warhammer March of Chaos may be something you are interested in?

Outside of SupCom or Total War there aren't many to choose from to be honest.

You could try Age of Empires 2 with the forgotten empires mod. It raises the population cap from 200 to 1000. http://www.forgottenempires.net/features

Total War - Lot of units, great gfx on units and you can zoom right in and watch the battles. If you haven't tried this series your missing out.

Sins of a solar empire lets you havr a pretty big number of ships at the same time, when more than 3 players enter a planets orbit with capped units it becomes a total clusterfuck of ships, and still manages to look good while at it.
