WildStar closed beta is actually about testing the game. So when some random beta tester thought it would be cool to leak the latest closed beta test notes, Carbine decided to make them public - they're worth a look.
Official News Post at WildStar-Online.
Edit: I had posted the notes, but the formatting was terrible so it's better to just read them on the official site.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

I'm trying real hard to not get hyped up about AAA MMO releases anymore, but I gotta say.......
I LOVE the attitude Carbine has. Their approach is such a breath of fresh air
WildStar looks like the first post-WoW(Vanilla) MMO i might actually stick too. Their attitude and design choices seem to be very well attuned to many kinds of players. The fact that they are bringing 40 man raids back, attemping to make combat more engaging, and not going for the whole lets make leveling a single player like exprience trend makes it look really appealing.
Seeing all the latest PAX footage really gives me the old WoW vibe, when leveling took months, you were excited to get into a new area, and when killing any thing in a raid instance was considered an acomplishment. If they'll bring the guild exprience back as it was in the old days from farming the tainted scar for eye of shadow to puting Onyxia's head on a pike it's going to succeed atleast in bringing me back to MMO's.
I agree. Instead of hiding behind the NDA for this one they just put it out there for everyone to see. More developers should take this approach.
Same here. I love a lot of what they're doing, I just can't get into the game sadly.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Most developers don't have a game they're confident about at this point to allow anything passed the NDA if they can possibly help it. Carbine seems to be more confident then most in their product at this point, so in the end, this move is definitely going to help them rather than hinder them like most developers.
Good for them.
Not only is this awesome but it shows something you do not see from a lot of MMOs in closed beta: confidence.
Most closed beta MMOs over the years either pretend leaks never happen or try and shut them down in an attempt to make sure the general public does not know how the MMO is progressing.
You should try Eve online, Age of Wushu, or wait for Archeage, and World of Darkness, that about the best "immersiveness" your gonna get in an mmo, but those are all (except for maybe WoD, I havent done much research) pvp centric mmos. So be ready to die. If your waiting for Skyrim Online, you'll most likely be waiting on your death bed.
love the graphics, love their ideas, love almost everything in the game except action combat. it would be no problem if i wasnt hyped about the raids they will implement (40man, hardmodes etc), but if i m into raiding i hate action combat system.
anyway i dont know if the game will be a success but i dont see much better titles coming out in the near future.
Sharess Dragonstar - Midgard
Grievance is recruiting.
Clever of the them.
Games looks good.
I liked the 46% prettier part. And why did notes end all of a sudden? I tought they were releasing all the patch notes. I guess they still dont want to spoil certain story or placeholder items.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
its impossible not to find it infectious when you see devs loving their jobs working on a game they really want to be a blast for us too play.
im majorly looking forward to wild star and star citizen because of this.
Its not about the patch notes you slowpooke, its about the way they handled the leak.
Exactly! I love the way they handled this!
Man I swear I am getting the same great feeling about this game that I got about WOW when it was close to release.
I cannot wait to PLAY THIS. I just wish I could somehow get into beta
------------------------------
You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
The news isn't the content of the patch notes (although it does give us non-beta guys some nice stuff to chew on) but how they handled the situation.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
i completely disagree, you can totally get immersed in a game that has not got realistic graphics, infact it helps to a large degree sometimes. With a realistic approach, you expect everything to be realistic, so everything that does not look real, brngs you out of the immersion zone. Games that are 5 years old will look bad compared to new ones. Styleised graphics though stay more contempory for a longer time, and if you accept the world your playing in, get invovled with the characters, read the lore etc, you can be immersed in a game that does not look realistic. immersion does not equal how real something looks, its how connected and into a world you become.
Completely agree.
It's not just about the graphics - it's about the entire package that makes the game immersive. Aesthetics. Games like Zelda and Super Mario Bros. are extremely immserive despite not having the best graphics and being over a decade old. Lord of the Rings, WoW and Guild Wars all have outdated graphics but in reality look just as good as games being released today because of their aesthetics.
The vanilla Final Fantasy XIV probably had the best graphics in a game at the time it released and was completely dull and I couldn't be immersed.
The art style they use in this game could probably work to their advantage.
i must say i agree,
It's cool how they handled the situation and all ... but some are getting hyped up just a lil. too much ;p
Actually Wildstar offers both types of combat.
First they developed the classic system of tab targetting combat. The type of combat we have been playing for 15 years now?
Aside that they also developed the action combat system.
So both sides are represented and offered an option.
Everybody wins.
