Sadly as we draw to what looks like a no go for CU will gamers back up MJ and still support his future endevors. Or do you think that MJ should step out of the MMO spotlight for ahwile and get his prospective's in place before he comes up with anouther kickstarter or for that matter before he tries his hand at another MMO title.
Your thoughts are welcome.

Past: WoW, WAR, SWTOR, and too many others
Future: Camelot Unchained
A lot can happen in a week...
Edit: And he doesn't exactly have the most stellar reputation to being with, TBH. Many people seem to want to trust him again, but remember ToA & WAR all too vividly.
It would kill his reputation if it funds and he either fails to release the game or it releases and is bad and shuts down within a year or two. That he came up with an idea that didn't reach its funding goal on Kickstarter (should that happen) shouldn't hit his reputation much if at all. Good idea not enough backers in that case. It happens.

If the kickstarter fails, it won't damage Mark Jacob's reputation in the slightest. Will he venture into the MMO genre again? I'd hope so.
If CU is funded then flops, Mark's reptuation would then be ruined.
Oh I agree and I am hoping trust me. It just seems that ones rep could be at stake if it did not happen. I mean look at Curt Shilling for example he belived in 38 studios until it busted him now I am willing to bet that with his rep shot he prob wont get any kind of backing now for a MMO game even if he wanted.
"looks like a no go" ???
Serious?
I think 1.3 out of 2 M is a pretty good place to be in with 8 days left. Sure 1.4, 1.5, or 1.6 at this point would be better.
However other games on kickstarter I've seen get 100-200k just in the last few hours, and 30-40% in the last 3-4 days.
That's all well over 2 M, plus all the paypal money coming in after 2 M.
The assumptions at this point that it won't fund are cracking me up honestly.
I mean I'm not assuming it WILL fund, a lot could happen (good or bad). I'm just seeing a lot of assumptions, but nobody really knows until its over.
But like some others have said, I think it would only hurt his rep if it DID fund, and it didn't make it through development to release LOL. Or if it was a terrible game.
At least he seems willing to listen to players, and work hard on any issues that people have.
A lot of reasons I've left other mmos were devs/publishers just ignoring huge public outcrys over stuff. So players get fed up and leave since they were being ignored.

^this, on both his points.
Look at Shroud of the Avatar, a week before the end it didnt look like they could come close to 2 million yet it did...and his rep still sucks to most people other than hardcore DaoC fans.
Curt started a studio and moved people across the country, while taking a state loan.
(However, if you believe his version - and I do - they kind of got screwed. Yeah he could have done better, but his few last ditch attempts were blocked)
I think that MJ should continue to work in the MMO world, his concepts are fine just not thought through completely.
Sorry but MJ's reputation was already killed with Warhammer Online.
And according to many DAoC vets it already started with one of the later expacs for DAoC.
You're confusing hype and reputation.
Hype is what got him to 1.3, reputation is what is keeping him from 2
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

Start with a billion dollars and make an MMO.
Why do people find it hard to understand the changes in DAoC were done to curtail the exodus of players attracted by WoW?
MJ had to answer to many people at that time regarding revenues. WAR on the other hand was looking to bring back those players with a more or less WoW mirror........
I see CU as more of a project of love for him, I'm sure he wants it to generate income for himself, but if that was the bottom line he wouldn't be taking the small player base approach
Blaming the driver when the car breaks down is the cool thing to do these days i guess. But no, not all of us blame MJ for Warhammer, and yes i was disappointed with it aswell(mid/endgame/polish specifically). Its just that some of us have a job in the real world and know how the higher uppers can screw things up.
If someone has a superior, its his fault until proven otherwise in my book. And MJ was still a employee, bound to enforce even stupid ideas like releasing early and cutting a faction out. If you believe either was his idea your obviously not familiar with warhammers development.
I really don't agree with any of this "bad reputation" stuff. I think a lot of it had to do with him being in the spotlight a lot on Warhammer, which was indeed a flop at release. However, I went back after a year or so and the game ended up being one of the funnest games I've ever played. Yes the Trials of Atlantis expansion for DAoC was pretty bad; it was reactionary to WoW. However, New Frontiers completely made up for it. If you didn't play NF 8v8, you missed out!
So, MJ created 2 of the three best MMO's I have ever played, the first was no accident and the second had a rocky start, but he managed to make it into a fun game despite a couple of poor decisions on his part and EA's. Also take into conideration that the devs on this team are hardcore PvP gamers (unlike the devs for GW2. Their forum posts and horrible WvW play make it clear they are detatched from the fanbase). These guys are hardcore LoL, DAoC, and GW2 players themselves. Mark has stated that playing the game will be required for every emloyee of his team. These guys know PvP.

Actually Jeff Hickman ran WAR. Get your facts straight.
What rep? You all talk like your close personal buddies. Alot of what keeps it from getting to 2 is people spreading FUD.
TOA was supposed to be hard. You either did TOA and were competitive in RvR or you went QQ and left the game. That being said, it wasnt the right kind of Xpac for DAOC. It was too EQish for a game that was centered around RvR. It did however bring the rest of the community that stuck it out in a little closer because it took 200 people working together to get something done.

TOA release date 10/28/03
WOW release date 11/23/04
In no way was TOA a response to WOW. It was an attempt to pick off EQ subscribers.
