I was busy being a servant at the Tea House. Had to try this out more, does feel like there may be some complexity to it. Hopefully a ton of complexity, may draw me in further if so.
So far, fun. But I am only up to the part where I will soon be picking a school.
this is a terrible review and shows thhat you have ZERO knowledge of the game and its extremely complicated system of interactions between VIP/non-VIP/Cash Shop/Economy.
You start the article with like two paragraphs of meaningless gibberish , including garbage comparisons to star wars ( put in to be witty ), and then go into dislikes about the LOOK OF CASH SHOP DECORATIVE ITEMS.
Why not write a review talking about the sandbox elements of the game, instead of focusing on the fact that that you are too stupid and too indoctrinated by linear WOW clones. Your take on Snailgames explanation of EXP is boiled down to ...
OMFG I DID THE TUTORIAL AND I SPAM CLICKED ON ALL THE QUESTS. NOW I HAVE NO STORYLINE AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET EXP.. OH HEY.. SNAILGAMES TOLD ME I CAN GET EXP DOING OTHER STUFF LIKE JUMPING!!!
maybe you are just trying to write the article from the perpesctive of a frustrating half brain dead wow gamer...im not sure.. but your article does the game no favors. and thats saying a lot since this site is notorious for just writing articles thhat make trash games look good.
In the future, if you want to write an article about a game as complex as AOW, i suggest you take the time to really experience one of its many aspects and write an article reviewing JUST that.. or at least just TWO. For example.. review the pvp/pve centered conflict amongst the 8 schools and how this correlates to the daily events between the schools such as Script Steals, School Wars, and the more common Spy/Patrol conflict.
Or maybe really get your feet wet and review the PVE aspect of TV and the newly added function where players receive help notices from NPC bosses in instnaces. Players can then be ported into the instance, and disguised as NPC ADDS, can then prevent a formed gruop of players from defeating that boss.
The game is akin to EVE but MUCH MUCH MUCH more indepth when it comes to interaction with the NPC world. Your review so far of this game shows absolutely nothing of this game besides what a 6 yr old would say after playing it for 5 minutes.

you aint seen nothing yet
you pick a school literally in the first 20 minutes of the game. You arent even done with the tutorial. In fact.. completeing all the guides that are built in takes about 1-2 days. Thats just bc there are so many things that need guides. From script steals.. to kidnapping to constable status ... and thats just a baby part. Once you join a guild.. take everything youve had to learn about and multiply it by 100.
24 hrs a day is not enough time to play AOW and do everything you want.
The game is cool and I enjoy my time in game regularly...
With that..
This game is dangerous for your pockets. Not because of spending / purchasing gold, but because of the current hacker / gold selling issue. This games needs some serious security improvements in ALL areas..
Be careful with your information, be even more careful with your purcahsed gold and for goodness sake please don't buy gold to convert into in-game coins. You can make money in game fairly easy once you choose how you want to make it.
A 200/200 stack of the most basic gathering items can make you 20L a pop and take little to no time to collect really.
I hope people enjoy the game tho, because like I say its a fun, interesting and most importantly different title for us Westerners, but be headstrong in not giving up too much of your hard earned IRL cash to Snail Games.
Not until they've given us proper security measures and have at least updated the client with something seriously impactful. In my 5 or so mo's of play there has yet to be any significant patch to hit this game.
From my understanding we are playing on a very, very passey version of the game. The CN version has many of the updates people have been clamouring for.
i.e Team Practice immunity to stop the lames from interupting TP's..
sorry but i noticed that out of all the complaints, the one you focused on was.. PVP AT TP? umm wow. "stop the LAMES" .. TP at a school is not meant to be safe. The schools are basically locked in a war. There is Spying/Patroling going on 24/7 and you for some reason want to be immune to pvp while you are cuiltivating at a sacred spot? LOL.. if you want a relatively safe sacred spot.. go cultivate at your guild base. Also.. guild wars are rampant.. and if you are doing TP and your TP leader is at war with my guild.. hell yeah im going to PK him onsite. While having your TP interuppted maybe frustrating, it goes completely against the idea of the game to be "pvp immune" during it.
let me say first that if the game is confusing/ difficult to understand it should be part of the review.
But what we have read so far is not review, just some random notes from someone who is obviously totally lost in AoW.
Other that stuff then reviewer got told by devs, there notning of substance. So while again, the game is probably not easy to get in, I'd expect any reviewer to be at least slightly more adept at playing/reviewing that todays average casual player.
I just started playing this game and I have bene playing for about a week now and I have to say it has a step learning curve BUT with that said after I figured out what I was doing this is the best F2P mmo I've ever played ( Neverwinter just came out still have to try that out).. It has some very interesting ideas and features that you just don't see any other mmos.

Nice very nice.
Then explain how a lot of us [mod edit] feel exactly the same way as the reviewer.
The game sucks. There is no ifs and buts about it.
I gave the game many hours and tried to like it. I wanted to like it.
If you have to TRY to like a game, then it is probably time to move on.
Sandbox experiences do not need to be this boring and lame.
Does it have some good qualities? Of course it does.
So do most games, but that doesn't necessarily make them good games.
This MMO is a 3/10. [mod edit]
