Non-MMORPG MMORPG...

aSynchroaSynchro Member UncommonPosts: 194

Silly question, but beside traditionnal MMORPG (WoW, EVE, GW2, UO etc.), is there other kind of games or virtual experience that allow you to waste time online while still dealing with other people ?

Now i'm not talking about your average coop FPS/RTS/racing/... where the chating is just that. What i'm looking for is something more deepful, something with maybe politic, and intrigue, and social relations between players... and without the "kill 10 rats" or the "do this instance again and again to get a gear that will buff you stat for 1%".

Maybe some alternate reality online rp or some big simulation with complex interaction or maybe just a very different MMORG, i don't know...

Any idea ?

Not really sure what your asking for?

It sounds like you want a MMORPG with instant gratification (no progression).. thats not really what MMOs are about and I dont think any exist.

2nd Life   Also Utherverse. There are several "social MMOs" on the market

I really don't think that what your asking for is out there. There lots of mmorpg who offers lots of ways to communicate with other people, you could even wait for runescape 3 or if you just want to chat go ahead and check out imvu .. but then again keep in mind that i don't think that what your asking for is out there

So you want a Non-MMORPG MMORPG? Hmm, let me see... Hmm, maybe you can figure out the answer to your question by yourself?

An MMO can be about instant gratification if it wants to be.

I thought the Massive in MMO mean't the amount of people playing. The max group size playing the content within an MMO also doesn't define the massive. As long as there IS an option to group up with players and play some games thats an MMO, IMO.

A chat room filled with a 1000 people that can group up and play a variety of card games for instant gratification is an MMO. It's the massive amount of people I can play games with when I want that defines MMO IMO.

Sounds like what you may be after are MUDs/MUSHes, some of the predecessors to MMOs.  They have less graphics than the old roguelikes but they make up for it with imagination and well-written descriptions.  They usually have pretty active RPing, lots of socializing, and the best sort of intrigue and politics this side of a game like EVE Online.  I've been out of the MUSH scene for a few years now but I know that despite a bit of a decline in popularity, there's still an avid fanbase if you choose to give them a try.
