I actually agree with MMOExposed, One of the worst things WarhammerOnline had was the clunky animation an for a game coming after DAOC released in 2001 there was no excuse... Some people are saying to MMOExposed to stop trolling.... That is not a troll his stating a fact, an if by that fact he doesn't feel convinced in supporting "or throwing money Camelot Unchained" he has that right... His not saying that CU will be trash his just saying that he hasn't seen enough yet to convince him in the animation department to support a game as of yet, maybe with future updates he will feel more comfortable on buying the game then just throwing the money an having some blind faith or maybe half blind I should say since there is some little content in regard to animation at the least....
I personally do believe in the potential with what I have seen but we aren't all the same so this is not a troll this is just a fair opinion from someone, an we should respect it instead of calling it a troll. An on the animation yeah.. again he is right; this game for me will be a redemption in the animation department from the trash animation that was WAR and MJ personally has stated that he will give priority to fluidity in the animation on the game. An in various updates they showed examples of how fluid the animation was on March of OZ an if that is the case it seem's pretty fluid but the question is was that enough to convince people in the animation department... For me I had to weight a lot of other stuff in order to make the decision to support the game (Warrior Forever) but is the content on the animation department to scarce to be able to support the game an throw your money based only on animation.....
I believe MJ an his team will make a great come back into the mmo world with this game, an with the mistakes and successes learned from past mmos this will just make this unique game a better product in general.
Animations are one of the main backbones that can make a game feel "good" to play or "horrible."
If anyone here is playing the recently released NEverwinter mmo it has some great tight animations that really "feel" right with it's combat and movement, etc.
Though some area's it might be behind (ie the frames of animation needs more in-between frames showing attacks).
The main thing I hope is that movement, attacks, that kind of thing feels tight and responsive. It shouldn't feel "floaty" or laggy, which I thought in GW2 that killed part of the fun for me, the combat felt very floaty, no where near as good as Neverwinter or Teras.
Animations are one of my main deal breakers in a MMO. Not to be confused with Graphics. But character animations, as i how they look moving, or how they look swinging a weapon or how they look casting a spell.
Imo Warhammer, another of MJ's game had very poor animations for movement as well as Melee an cast. Far worst than World of Warcraft. Total deal breaker to see the animations for the Chaos Chosen compared to the GW2 Norn.
But hard to back this game when they havnt shown much in the Animation area. I hope we see animations soon.
You're kidding right? You're going to come to a prejudice opinion on a completely different game with completely different artists and designers based on ONE name in the entire staff? Man... heaven forbid these people should have bills to pay because if that's how people think now a days; they're screwed.
Could you please explain how 3 players on the same screen would make it imposible to see anything?
Well if you play then you know exactly what I mean, all the particle effects and animations blocking the screen. Things like burning constantly covering attack animations and tells. Oh yeah and theres the fact the games performance decreases rapidly as more and more players are on the screen.
I suppose for GW2 it doesnt matter seen as all you do is auto attack but for a game that actually requires players to pay attention I prefer the animations not to needlessly flash and block the screen.
You're not going to be getting class animations and decent graphics with the aim of having 500+ people on the screen fighting. Not until the average persons computer is much better anyway.
OP you are correct. Animation is one of the things lacking in lots of MMO today. It feels "forced". Or repetitive (same animation used for different things)
You can have good animation with 500+ people on screen fyi, its NOT a engine limitation, computers can handle it.
Andrew even said during his videos they are wanting fast gameplay mechanics, that means fast spells/melee require good timing of attacks. That plays well into having good animation of such attacks. Not cookie cutter attacks mine you, ones you can tell of what you are doing based on the attack on screen, not the icon on desktop.

That is always a option in MMO, you can turn those off or on based on what you want. I know people who played games with every graphics on, and lots of just turned spell effects off.
But cmon - it's a Kickstarter. People aren't seeming to understand this. Kickstarter is used, to...kick start a game. To make a game be mad.
It's just been perverted by alot of developers bringing 50% or even 80% finished games to KS and releasing them a few months later.
KS is meant to be used by games that have nothing but an idea and the ability to be made.
I don't feel the same as you in reference to KS.
Look at tabletop wargaming. Several games have used KS to launch. Using the KS to fund the first run costs. Models are done, just need to be cast. Books are written, just need to be printed. I think this is the correct way to look at KS, not as a way to fund something from the ground up.
Hopefully CU doesn't ruin future game prospects, by not delivering. MJ should have had more ready to go when he launched the KS.

AHH - I don't have issues with it. It does go down but not as bad as you think They have really put more graphics optimizations into the game. You would know if you played the game now - dealing with large events doesn't chug as much as it used to. The game also looks bloody amazing right now with the optimizations done to it.
Animations are pretty low on the priority list imo. It appears CSE is correctly prioritizing performance over visuals. I think they'll make a great looking game, but I think they'll make sure it performs well even with tons of players in an area which is really whats important.
If you find the animations aren't good enough to play the game, then that shouldn't be a problem there are tons of games out there with flashy animations. This game, though, is going to be more about performance I believe.

Yeah the game runs better in WvW since they . . . allowed players to turn down the animations and effects.
Which is exactly my point??
Everywhere else is still as terrible as its always been, sure it looks nice while you solo your way through it but I'd prefer a game that's actually playable when theres more than handful of players around.

I hate GW2 animations, more than 3 players in the same area and you can't see anything.
I'd turn them off if I could.
