LOL! You mixed WAR with AoC lore and Greek mythology! HA ha ha.
I'm such a nerd. :-(
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Earthrise. More fool me, I thought sandbox meant housing and great crafting, with lots of exploration and free roam gameplay. And science fiction even! Sign me up!
Then I realized that in this case sandbox meant grind, grind crafting, shoot other players, run past lots of awesome looking buildings you can't even go into much less customize for your avatar to live in.
Boring. Yawn.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
Maybe All Points Bulletin. I loved this game and played the hell out of it. But they couldn't keep the hackers and cheaters out. To me, that was it's main defect. Maybe it also required a pretty good computer to run it with all the beautiful graphics, I can't remember because at the time I had a new computer if I recall correctly.
I had some amazing time in APB despite the cheaters...some of my best gaming moments ever. But in the end, it was too much with the cheaters.
Then they went free to play, and I don't like their free to play system.

AO:shadowlands . To me it destroyed a great game. Hell it would have been better if the just put the gear on Rubi ka as a booster pack and skipped the rest.
::sigh:: I have a soft spot for Funcom. They think up some pretty neat stuff and try to make more adult MMOs, but end up making a game not all that fun.
Next: I already don't have high hopes for World of Darkness, so we'll see how that goes.
Wow.. had almost forgot about this one.. yep.. 1st mmo I "pre-ordered" to get into "beta".. dare I say it was also the last?! ..
But for "real" mmos that actually got released, I would have to go with :
Vanguard : Sage of Heroes
It has everything old school mmo fans wanted, (while the trend amongst other mmos was to do WoW 2.0), but the problems were too many for it to rise and be what it was supposed to be. Would be a great day if they could redo it using same classes, same mechanics, etc. but with a new engine...
AC2 was rushed out, mostly due to pressure from Microsoft, and was plagued with chat issues due to the GUN server. I would also say the game suffered from a true lack of identity as well. It wanted to be an open world mmo with interesting mechanics, but much of the open world wasn't worth exploring nor was it rewarding to do so. Instead we wound up in certain camping locations in the world or in olthoi hives.
LotRO suffered from uninspired combat more than anything else for me. Turbine had a great track record of making interesting combat from AC1 and AC2. However, combat felt completely bland to me in LotRO. Not to mention the game attempted to do the quest hub thing. Which it did well, since it had a ton of quests, but suffered from the generic kill 10 X that WoW already had a ton of. I would also say the game suffered from bland animations as well.
WAR is the game that should have been, but never came to pass. They tried something different with Public Quests, which were ok when populated, but promoted too much open world competition among those who are supposedly your allies. The PvP was ok, but again, it suffered from either a lack of people to kill or imbalanced populations. The game also had some pretty terrible class balancing, considering the end game was designed for RvR mechanics, that is unforgivable. However, you do have to tip your cap to some interesting class mechanics, especially for the healing classes, having to balance out DPS vs. Healing resources to get to most out of your experience.
In recent releases Darkfall. I wouldn't called it failed execution, but more of a failed vision. If the game would have been designed more like an rpg instead of multiplayer pvp, then it could have been great.

Fallen Earth - Awesome game, awesome world, but budget drawbacks and a lack of features truly limited the dev team post release. This could have been the best RvR game to date had they implemented it.
Darkfall - As much as I love this game, it could have been the 3D sandbox I've been searching for since the plans for UO2 got shit-canned.
The above is my personal opinion. Anyone displaying a view contrary to my opinion is obviously WRONG and should STHU. (neener neener)

This one is high on my list as well. My only problem with cheaters/hackers was being called one by every sore loser in the game. I won't deny that they were there, but most of them relied so heavily on their cheat that they were easy to out-think and out-play. It wasn't like some of the games where players could insta kill everyone on the map with a click of a button, it was more like aim-bots which were far from perfect. I could aim better than most of them...
They lost me when they adjusted their F2P model and penalized mission rewards for non-paying customers. C'mon, I couldn't even afford basic weapon and ammo upkeep without subscribing. This became very much so, a P2W game.
Unique IP : Vanguard - Buggy release killed it, despite it actually have a lot to offer and being a pretty good game, once they optimized it some. Budget problems forced them to concentrate on PvE only when doing combat fixes, and they destroyed PvP in the process and the remaining PvP population. Without the bad launch problems, they could of probably got both working well.
Existing IP : WAR - Very big rush job, which didn't make sense. They should of stuck with the 3 factions, and had quality crafting/harvesting and such, instead of probably what is the worst excuse for crafting I have ever seen in a game at launch. The PvP mechanisims were screwed up, and I could not believe they wouldn't notice the huge flaws they had.

Got to be SWTOR. Q: Star Wars + Bioware, what could possibly go wrong? A: just about everything.

My 2 have already been mentioned a couple of times: Tabula Rasa and Vanguard. One died too soon and the other is already far past dead :'( Really wish those 2 would have a second chance with better support and attention from their developers...

Final Fantasy XIV
SWTOR
WAR
They had budgets large enough to create just about anything and created a turd.
For potential, it's not even close.
SWTOR
FFXIV
WAR
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Like many others said, WAR by far.
FFXIV comes in a distant second.
