Rollback

kevjardskevjards Member UncommonPosts: 1,452

We took the Neverwinter OBT down for emergency maintenance, found the bug, corrected it and tested it. In order to fix the damage this exploit caused to the in-game economy, we implemented a necessary rollback of our servers to 5:20 AM PDT the morning of May 19, 2013. This means that characters have been reverted to the state they were in at that time, pre-exploit damage. That includes items, level, experience, etc.

We know that character progress matters in Neverwinter, so as an apology for the lost time and as profound thanks for your continued support throughout this Beta, we are putting together a package of items to give everyone. We plan to distribute this towards the middle or end of this coming week, possibly on Friday 5/24.

dunno if someone has posted this.but here you go

Won't fix crap.  It's like giving a flu shot for an Antrax outbreak.  It will make it "appear" as though you care and are trying, when in fact won't do shit.

Hasn't effected the exploiters at all.

Most of the accounts banned for exploiting were mule accounts (throw aways). Furthermore most of the most severe exploiters already earned 1000s of $ of real money off this game's incompetence, and cashed out.

You can't transfer Zen to RL money.  So unless they were selling AD to outside RMT they were not making real money.

Lol, it's a real treat to watch this trainwreck unfold:

The OP didn't put that announcement in its full context:

    Q: What happened?

A: Early Sunday morning a very small group of players discovered and abused a game exploit within the Neverwinter Open Beta that affected the Auction House and Astral Diamonds.

    Q: What exactly has changed?

A: We took the Neverwinter OBT down for emergency maintenance, found the bug, corrected it and tested it. In order to fix the damage this exploit caused to the in-game economy, we implemented a necessary rollback of our servers to 5:20 AM PDT the morning of May 19, 2013. Official Zen-Gate FAQ

    Soooo:

    1. "only a very small group of players" were involved.
    2. The exploit magically appeared early on Sunday morning (PST).
    3. There'll be a rollback to "before the exploit appeared".

That will solve all the problems (small group of exploiters = small problem) image

Sounds to me like they are either unable or unwilling to unravel the mess. So they rollback, patch the hole and then pretend nothing ever happened. Business as usual, folks !

Not to worry, peeps, the Cash Shop will be open again shortly ! image

Exploit has been happening since Closed Beta and they only roll back the servers for 5.5 hours ?...lol

Cryptic pretty much gave the middle finger to any honest player trying to play this game.

Yeh, people don't realise that this exploit has 'always' been there. It didn't just appear on Sunday 19th. Some people have been doing it for weeks and weeks on tons of accounts.

Lol, welcome to the online gaming industry (F2P division), where companies do exactly as they please with impunity !

    And get away with it...

Tormented echoes of a fallen Eden
    I longed for her beauty
    Yet from dust, she returned

I think the point is that it became widespread this weekend. So they are rolling that back then going after individuals before that. Seems like a reasonable compromise.

Yup, that seems to be the strategy:

Q: This bug existed for more than 7 hours. What are you doing about the fact that players took advantage of this before the rollback window?

A: We are performing additional log searches and investigations to ensure that the appropriate actions are taken against any accounts that performed the exploit before the rollback window. Exploits that were performed prior to our rollback window make up a fraction of a percent of total impact, so we will be dealing with those issues selectively as not to cause greater impact on those legitimate testers.

Note that the game does not have any players at the moment, only testersimage

Hmm in a compromise, both parties give something up to reach an agreement. I'm seeing what the players are giving up, they lose a little progress and have to continue to play in a game where the economy has been permanently affected by exploits since it started.. or they have to stop playing the game. I'm not seeing what the devs and publisher are giving up. They are going to give everyone a bag with some ID scrolls and a few AD in it or something? Or a cosmetic or summat that is literally worth nothing to most people? Maybe a title called "Exploit Survivor"... that's not really giving something up. It's kind of like a bribe..

Yeah the beta tag won't save them, they are taking peoples money. They need to be on the ball with banning them all.
  • evilastroevilastro Member Posts: 4,270
The compromise is between a full wipe and just banning individuals. To get rid of the white noise the rollback was the only option.

    I was like.......ok
Now i knew about exploits...each game has them in one way or another.
But the amount in Neverwinter is sickening, and the way it is handled is a complete joke.

    uninstalled this abomination.

I will not be astonished to find that these exploits are kept inside the system as developers use to make and keep cheat codes for stand alone PC games and then later reveal it to the public.

The true fact however still remains, there will never be an even playing field for the newcomers and there was never an even playing field for the players who do not support exploits.

Look at all the players who actually want a complete wipe.

I say wipe the entire game at launch of the actual game.

    This is BETA Right?

During Alpha Testing of games I can't really disclose info on I had my character wiped about 10+ times and didn't care reported many bugs across games so seriously this is beta right we should find report all bugs and all data should be wiped at launch.

Simply said for those who have purchased founders, and Cash Shop items at launch you will be either.

    1. Return all ZEN Money to purchase new packs on release as well that was spent during beta.

    2. Your founders items, and purchases will be mailed to you in game mail on launch.

Either way no one looses anything but I am sure this exploit has went on longer than this, because usually it takes a cheating clan, or 1-2 people to find out and abuse an exploit badly and by the time it gets reported there are so many server logs only the players on who YouTube the exploit instructions and new people doing it get punished and items removed and so on not the old players who did it and took advantage.

If players knew how exploiters did their dirty tricks perhaps more would agree ^^.

Sure I truly dislike those folks who found and used the exploits. But in all honostly they are not effecting my play experience in any way.  Perhaps I care more about my own fun then wondering how other people are doing ingame.

I don't mind the rollback, I would have minded a full wipe.

That's a bit of a catch 22, isn't it? Your experience wasn't affected, but there are people who did have their experience ruined. If Cryptic doesn't wipe you'll be happy and they'll be pissed, but if they do wipe you'll be pissed and they'll be... well, less pissed than they are now.

So if you wont be able to purchase anything off the ah now, you are still not affected ey?

In real life if this happened, hyper inflaction would appear. Food, gas, overall prices would go up 100+% cause many exploiters could pay the higher prices but your salary would stay the same, it would still not affect you xD yea sure
