Asheron's Call New UI

Finally Asheron's Call has taken another step towards modernization with a new movable sizable UI.

Up until last patch AC still had fixed UI windows that always opened in the same spot and took up game viewing space. Now they have a fully overlaid UI with all windows being movable and resizable. A nice step in my mind.

They released a second patch to improve some parts of the new UI. Basically it gives 2 main things. First is the ability to adjust the size of the 3D window. This means you can actually shrink down the window and put the UI elements outside of it if you want to.

Second is a saveui and saveautoui option. The saveautoui option allows you to save a different UI at different resolutions so that if you like to switch back and forth depending on what you're doing you can have a different UI setup at each resolution that will automatically swap when the resolution does. The saveui allows you to save the ui to a file so you can load it in on other characters or machines.

    • Fixed tinkering issues that were affecting some missile weapons and magic casters.
    • UI Fixes:
      • Lower left chat channel designation box now properly maintains typed text in the selected channel.
      • Cleaned up Housing panel.
      • The layout of panels on newly created characters has been adjusted to be more intuitive.
      • The 3D playable area can now be resized just like other panels to allow players to relocate that space/set up panels in an area around the 3D view. Simply mouse over the edge of the window and drag any edge of the 3D panel.
      • The combat bar can be resized the entire width of the screen.
    • There are now saveui and loadui commands! Commands are as follows:
      • Basic Save/Load UI:
        • Typing @saveui will save the current layout to a file called UI-Default.txt in the folder with your preferences.
        • Type @loadui loads that layout from UI-Default.txt.
      • Saving/Loading multiple UI layouts:
        • If you specify a filename with @saveui it will save the layout to a specific txt file by the same name: [filename].txt
        • If you specify a filename with @loadui it will attempt to load your layout to [filename].txt
        • Example: @saveui awesomemelee and @saveui awesomemage would create files named awesomemelee.txt and awesomemage.txt which you could then load using @loadui awesomemelee or @loadui awesomemage
      • Advanced Feature: Auto UI
        • There is now an a @saveautoui command. This command will save your layout in a file specific to your character and resolution.
        • If you change resolution while logged on that character, the game will attempt to load the layout you saved with @saveautoui.
        • It is possible to perform a save for each resolution you would like to use while playing that character, and the game will automatically switch between those resolutions. There is a @loadautoui command to force a load if it does not load automatically.

Just came back to play AC1 with my g/f, we are both pleasantly surprised.  It has been 7 years since we played last back around 2006.  I can't believe they've added so many playable races, now there are cloaks in the game now?!  Lots of new skills which look interesting.  And more quests than we remembered back in the days.

I think AC1, despite its age, is a shining example of how an age old game can still keep going.  For once, the developers have done right.  The feel of the game feels just like it was back in 2006, and back in 2000.  But there have been many upgrades done to the game to help folks ease back into the game.  Yes it's old, graphics are outdated, but this is how an old game is to be played in my opinion.

Props to Turbine, they've done a good job keeping this game going.

Yeah the updates never stop coming. They've added many fun things over the last few years.

Make sure you look into tailoring as well. It lets you take the look off of one piece of armor and put it onto another so you can find a piece with the stats you want and tailor the look you like over the top of it.

Glad you're back and having fun. Now to keep spreading the word so everyone else realizes how good it is to be in Asheron's Call. :)
