Never really enjoyed 1.0 or FFXI since all other MMORPGs either did something else in a more innovative way or did the same thing better, so my initial attitude toward SE products wasn't too great. I think they've finally picked up on what makes a game work and what doesn't. I can tell that the dev team has actually played an MMORPG or two and have payed attention to detail here. When I first logged in, I had a small list of things that could be added or tweaked, but as I asked questions about them in chat, I've found that they were either in the works or planned at release - one example being voice over cinematics. So yeah, aside from a simple "cool story, bro" thread, being one who has "played 'em all," I see promise here. For a closed beta, it has actually already bettered some releases. Give it a try, the immersion is great, it has multi-class/job, smooth combat, and you feel like you have a virtual place in game.

I gotta agree with you. They did a fine job on this game.

u gotta wait till there are gameplay videos & playthroughs bro. I got to almost 30 on phase 1 & other than the combat(click click 12345 tab tab repeat) everything was nicely done. The most impressive part of the game was the engine that made the game look much better than say Tera & yet very very low performance cost. Too bad other devs wont get an engine like this any day soon

but anyway making these threads and building up fake hype without the proof of gameplay vids & playthrough behind it is quite worthless stop doing it please

I agree, this is a huge improvement over v1.0. Faster combat, quest helping arrows better looking graphics. able to run max settings @60fps at 1920x1080

I actually enjoyed loging on and questing and stuff! i dont want to play to much as i dont want to ruin my fun when it releases. I got a lvl 9 marauder

I think this game will be one of the top games of 2013. Nothing revolutionary but still everything done correct, fun to play  and above all there in no competition at this moment.

Funny because with all the hype of version 1.0 it turns out that version 2.0 really delivered.

I'll be playing this until Elder Scrolls and then even beyond because I pre-ordered PS4, and wouldn't mind playing it on my TV.

ES for my PC mmo and FFXIV in bed/couch hahahah.

    GAME TIL YOU DIE!!!!

Yeah I kind of feel that way too. I'm purposefully rushing through text so I won't spoil anything upon release by reading it all now lol. Just wanted to jump in and experience what the game has to offer. I wonder if they will add a double-tap mechanic for leaping or rolling out of the way.

It's a solid themepark MMO. Seeing where they came from, it's truly amazing. However, I think it's a mistake not offering a F2P option. The only themepark MMO I will pay a subscription for is WoW, and that is only because of all the friends I have playing it. I doubt XIV will be "the next big thing" but I'm happy that there's another Final Fantasy MMO.

Same here, man. I didn't want to play too much and get attached to my character or see too much because of wipes and all. I got just enough of a taste to know that the wait was more than worth it.

God I hate these kindda pointless postcount upping replies... try contributing to the thread instead.

On another note the game is indeed excellent, im very suprised at what Yoshida an Square has managed to do with a game that was pretty much dead to me in 1.0.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time helping test this because I don't want to ruin the experience for myself come launch.  I don't want to get too invested in a character just to have it get wiped in a month but at the same time I'm jonesing for a nice deep MMO to sink my teeth into.

I didn't hate 1.0 like most people did, there's were some things that bothered me and others that I thought were fantastic. I was very "wait and see" about this version as I figured they would trash everything that I loved about 1.0 and we'd have another "same old same old" on our hands. I was wrong, very wrong. Thankfully they seem to really know what they are doing with this game, they kept what i loved about 1.0 and changed everything else so that i love it too! It's so much better now.

Have to agree, I came into this game not expecting much...I loved FFXI and 1.0 seriously disappointed me but, ARR is fantastic from the ground up. I was worried I could not find another MMO to play....this changed my mind.

I'm very interested in playing this, but have a question.

What would you compare the game to more, EQ1 original, or WoW. This is a serious question, as I haven't had the same experience in a game since the original EQ and would love to get that feeling back. WoW's extremely linear and easy progression proved to be way to damn boring to me.

Anyway, sorry for such a comparison. I realize that FF IV could be far different from both games, but I would like some kind of comparison if possible.

I'm looking forward to release so I can really spend a lot of time playing FFXIV.  Probably the most anticipated game of the year for me.

To the guy above, I don't really know which one I'd compare it to.  Which aspect of the original EQ did you enjoy?  Was it the difficulty, grind, quests, 20+ classes, setting or what?  FFXIV isn't a very difficult game, but does allow you more freedom than something like WoW.  Honestly, it felt more like a world due to various activities besides combat playing a large role in the game.

It's way closer to WoW than it is to EQ.

immersive world, group play, the grind wasn't a grind to me because I had fun and wasn't in a hurry to reach "end game". I don't like the idea of end game, I feel every part of game world should be enjoyed throughout the life of your character. Unlike WoW or Rift where you zoom past areas and never see them again.

FFXI is on my short list of MMOs I regret buying, so honestly my expectations for FFXIV were, well, not very high.

Given that, I confess to being a bit stunned by how well it is done. It looks gorgeous, albeit with that weird kinda shimmer common to FF (and many JRPG) games. Runs well on both my system and the PS3 -- kinda nice to be able to play the same character on either machine. I'm a bit put off by the control set-up, but it actually seems pretty usable even with just a controller on either the PC (Xbox controller) or PS3 and isn't a poor console UI crammed into a PC style abomination, a la Defiance. It can be run with a fairly typical MMO keyset relatively easily, I think, though I haven't set it up for that yet and might not get to this weekend -- probably spend the rest of whatever test time I do on the PS3 anyway.

Not sure if I'll pick it up for (re)launch or not, but I'm suitably impressed and probably will give it a whirl at some point.

Anyone know if you have to pay separately for the console versus PC versions? I'm assuming so, but it'd be nice if there was some kind of deal for getting both.

Well I never played EQ1 but I can tell it is a classic themepark mmo so it means that is like WoW without any negative connotation.

    Imho everything is done well:

    - game graphics are good as expected

    - combat is fast paced, controls are responsive (unlike TSW, swtor or even GW2) witch is the main reason that I like this game

    - there is a classical trinity (healer, tank, dps)

    - quests are typical, yep nothing new here (but on the other hand even in gw2 was the same old wow fetch or kill)

    - a lot  of story babbling (which can be good or bad - depends what you like)

this in short ... I must go play now  image

Unfortunately you have to buy them both, I am planning on playing it on PC and PS4 once its out, so i guess i will have to cough up the cash aswell.

It's far closer to WoW in my opinion. It's a very quest hub driven game at least for the first 20ish levels. You can actually see every single quest giver/turn in in your zone without having to even be near them. The zones feels a lot more closed in than both games.

Nothing has actually been difficult up to this point. I died a few times on one of the instanced story quest at 15 (they are similar to GW2 instanced story areas), but with patience and the use of the sleep spell was able to beat it. Most people just outlevel it and come back. We were not able to go in as a group in order to zerg it, so there was some challenge there.

The combat is slower paced (for instance almost all of my skills share a 2.5 second cooldown with a couple of exceptions that are instant and have a long individual cooldown). A lot of people enjoy the slower pace including me, but I feel like I should mention it since someone was saying that the combat is as fast paced as GW2 and other recent titles.

Group content has been extremely easy so far but I expect this to change into very difficult at some point since FFXI was known for its later difficult content. It's impossible to judge late game content though since I haven't actually been there.

I'd say that the game is a LOT better than their last offering of FFXIV. The UI has improved by about a million percent and I haven't run into any bugs up to this point. But this game is VERY themepark up until this point. People are probably going to blow me up for being as honest as I can be about the game, but there you go anyway.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I simply want to get the feel of teh combat and see some scenery.

There are some improvements to be made but so far it's been a great game =]

This helps a lot, thank you. I might still give it a try, I was just hoping it had taken a different route.
