It is perfectly fine for you to believe in any god you choose, but don't expect me to believe in it and don't expect me to respect it anymore than I respect belief in the unicorn. YOUR belief doesn't constitute fact, nor does it inspire anything in general except scorn among the educated class, and ignorance among the masses.
You logged off and unistalled? I think ur the sensetive one.. grow up.
If they do now want nicknames like that and it most likely is all in their tos and everything else you agree when registering I think they were very nice to you. Simply asking you to provide a new name instead of banning it or naming it themselves.
To many people on the internet cannot be talked to.. anything you do not agree with is bad and they are wrong and you will express that, In this case all of that was wrong and sensitive by you.
To many people want to make a drama out of nothing, even if they hate doing it and it makes them feel upset some people really cant help but blow things up for no reason at all. Simply respecting their rules and thinking of a new name would be to peacefull and easy right? them contacting you for a new name is the most respectfull way they could do such a thing because they do not have to do that! It is most likely in their rules and they could do with your name anything they want if it does not go by the rules you accepted.

"Throughout the Hebrew and Christian Bibles there are many names for God. One of them is Elohim. Another one is El Shaddai, meaning “God Almighty”"
It obviously is very closely tied to judeo-christian religions.
It doesn't bother me one bit - but I can see how it would bother many people.
So that's where Stephen R. Donaldson got Elohim from! I never really looked into that. Thanks!

Depends on the christian sect you are speaking of.
Gotta remember that christianity has many different beliefs between sects regardless of believing in the same god and to generalize the religion isn't fair, there are many christians that would simply scoff at the name, walk away, avoid association or simply just play the game with you and not think twice, but wouldn't damn and condemn the individual, after all judgement is gods place.
Lets just say that my personal beliefs involve the rights to defend myself, so as not to flip the coin here so to speak. Sorry someone got all butthurt over your name OP.
I was on for less than ten minutes, getting used to the game. Players were very helpful in chat. Then the GM repeatedly demanded that I provide him a new name because he assumed "almightygod" would be just as offensive to his game population as "bigballs."

Yes yes, he was the sensitive one, not you. Really.
If you want to meet some REAL sensitive GMs perhaps you should play some Cryptic games instead.
I would get it if you had a name like Jihad or something more specific towards a religion. We make games were we arm ourselves to the teeth and play soldiers in a war in Irak and just slaughter Arabs with machineguns but AlmightyGod would be considered to be offensive. WOW!
Well I guess I can't judge to much on religious stuff since I come from the least religious country in the world, Sweden. But then again what is something like a religious GM doing in a fantasy world that has never exsisted and banning people for using the name AlmightyGod, it just feels stupid.
I usually use the name Beelzebob which is from Beelzebub and it's in a way religious since Beelzebub is a satanic figure and I thought it would be funny to put Bob at the end insteed of Bub. Strangely enough it's usually ok to use Satanic names or names of any "bad" gods, shouldn't this be even worse?
OP I am on your side on this one, 100%. Strangest thing ever.

Don't harass a player who is considering to buy your game over nothing. I could see if people were complaining, but c'mon! Open PvP game is bound to have more controversial things going on than this.
P.S. This name originated as an ironic response to all the 1337 names I encountered in some FPS games and just stuck.
If I was the gm I would have had both you and "big balls" change their names.
Don't assume you can get away with anything you want because you are considering purchasing the game and you feel "it's nothing".
If a gm asks you to change your name "change your name". If you truly can't understand how it might be offensive then put in a petition.
Instead, you took your toys and went home.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
People unfortunately associate the word "god" with meaning a particular "god". Its kind of funny though. You cant use a name containing the word god, yet you certainly wont see anyone getting in trouble for using a name containing something like Zeus, Thor, Mars, Neptune, etc. They were all gods, and you wont get banned for using a name like that, but better not use the actual word god anywhere.
It really pisses me off if poeple make fun of gods, any god. Now that I have that off my chest I am off playing a round of Smite.

Well maybe they should put a "warning sign" on the cover of the gamecase were it's says, "this is a game for Christians only and you will get banned if you almost use his name in vain".

Not really, no. The roleplayer however in me screams for your silly name choice but it would do that for "Leetranger", Kingofnerds", "LLegolas" or "Masterganker" as well.
Unless you play on a RPG server it shouldn't be a problem though. Just don't expect to join my guild.
This ended up being a pretty cool discussion about names and expectations of players and GMs. Yes, I did take my toys and go home, as one of you said. It wasn't over the name, it was about how I was addressed by the gm. People in these forums discussed the issue with me rationally, for the most part, I saw their point and changed my name to SomeHuman, no biggie. I got a laugh out of the going to play Smite comment.
i do think GM's owe it to the game they represent to be courteous and welcoming to customers. I know it's not the case all the time, and we all lose our cool. Maybe someone had just finished giving the guy a hard time before I logged in. Dunno.

So your saying you won't invite someone to your guild because of a silly name? If that's the case, I think that's a bit goofy.

I think it's quite normal, your toon name is a reflection in part of the player. If your name is "SomeJerk" expect that people will have opinions of how you are before ever meeting you or talking to you.
Saying that you don't care what name someone has joining your guild speaks of how you would run a guild to me.

That's a really shallow way of looking at things. I get to know people for who they are, not judge people by the cover or name as is in this case.

Choosing a name is a reflection of what you want to be or are even if it's a small part. We are not going as deep as judging a book by it's cover, we are judging part of the book by it's cover. If I see a book with demonic symbols on it, I can make a judgment that it has something to do with that, if I do not like demonic stuff what is the harm is saying I don't want to read it? Does it work 100% of the time? Of course not. Nothing does not even getting to know someone for years.

In my Guild we judge people on how they behave not there name. Don't behave, don't have a guild thats the rules. I judge people ingame like in life, if there is a problem between two people then I will talk to them and try to make them work out there differences and if that don't work then either one or both will be out.

Pretty ironic to say it's shallow and than make such an ignorant statement.
Not sure what part you don't understand. Picking a name for yourself is a willing action that you pick based on who you are and how you think. It's a world of difference to a RL name which was chosen by your own parrents. It is an action that reflects name wearer and speaks thousand words about him/her. However it's usually far from easy to read all that out of a name so it's usualy still best not to judge someone by his name - except in obvious occasions like this when the book is already fully open !

I judge my friends the same way.
Valid way of doing it, not disagreeing however, there are clear cases where people pick a name that would not be allowed. When I judge something or someone, I use all the information at hand. I do not need to get shot in the face with a gun to know that it was a bad idea to let someone put the gun to my face. I could make a choice sooner to stop it from ever getting that far.
Do you need to allow 2 people to "not work out" in your guild when there are clear signs that is is likely not to work out beforehand? I guess there is a choice or opinion here, where I'm more proactive. I'm also more willing to not allow someone in the guild and risk possibly (small) missing out on someone that will work out. Than the risk of them causing issues, which is much more likely.
I will never trust someone with a name that has a lot of X's or looks dumb.
