Yep someone did a good job. Before Star Citizen if you told me people gonna throw 13 million(and counting) to game they know nothing about, I would have never believed it. It happened.. and I hope they will use the money and trust to make a decent game. If it proves anything tho its that people will never ever learn
Finally a GAME....couldn't be happier....Command Control Center from your Constellation of all your ships....i love this game:)

Here's the thing. Chris is VERY smart and VERY talented, but he's got big dreams and in the past, he has gone way over budget. I'm really hoping that he has learned from what happened at EA and will be careful with all that money loaded with hope and wishes that's being thrown at him.
That being said, if anyone could deliver this game... it's him. But funding is going to have to continue well beyond the 21mil to launch the game if we want to see it really grow into more than just a space sim but the sci-fi theater he wants us all to become actors within.
On a side note... imagine what Star Citizen could be like, if it had that rumored 300mil that was put towards SWTOR...
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

He does have other investors besides what he's getting from KS/RSI. Mr. Roberts has said from the beginning that the Crowd Funding was to serve two purposes. First it was to give him start up capital to found Cloud Imperium Games but it was also to prove to these other investors that there is enough interest out there in his concepts to make it a profitable investment for them. He proved that ten times over and then some. He has also stated that it will most likely take 50+ million to make Star Citizen a reality and the rest will come from these other investors with the understanding that all of the creative control for the development will remain with him and CIG. You have to remember that he was only asking for 2 million at the beginning of the crowd funding phase which he has surpassed many times over.
People have bought into his dream based on work he did previously and his vision is one thing but he has to deliver and provided his ego does not take control then who knows what he's capable of. I backed the guy and in a big way like I have never done before. Now if he keeps the community on his side like they are atm then I see no reason why this cannot be a success.
If he gets the kind of funds which Swot got then we could see planets come alive and for me that would be fantastic and offer players the opportunity to have a fully immersive game world. However with that it brings many problems and server restrictions too, so it's far to early to get excited especially when you look at all the hype many games have had in the past and failed to deliver SwtoR being one of many I'm sure we all have our own personal failures.
So kudos to CR if he can make this work, he's bringing in the talent and they seem to be having a good time as many people are sending them goodies daily so as long as that holds up and moral stays high and they work though a goal stage weekly the public will support them.
But if they star to go off track you will or could see a backlash so he has to keep a tight hold on things.

If swtor cost 300 million it should be investigated for fraud since EA the financial pockets of the project is a publicly invested company. Strangely their stocks dropped after the release of swtor.
So maybe fraud was involved or simply unethical BW employees similar to GM employees taking Barak's bail money to increase their bonuses.
And without going in deep, lets say it was not fraud and around 300 million, that does not look good for a dev team that released little content for a 300 million project.
Maybe trying to start a new company with too many employees and a huge budget becomes more costly than beneficial under certain management.
So its hard to say if a huge budget would help or corrupt the whole project, and possibly attract to much average talent with a bloated work force. I think that could have been the problem with swtor. Since the vision of a swtor mmo was not by exp. mmo devs considering the feedback they had to get to point out the obvious to some of the swtor devs. Its sad that swtor was mismanaged, and given such a great chance to succeed with a big budget.

This is a pretty impressive kickstarter. I am glad as I am really anticipating this particular game. I do hope it is all put to good use and we are given a great game that blows everything else out of the water.
$14.968.766 as I'm writing this. It's pretty much a given that it'll break 15 million by tomorrow at the current rate, maybe even tonight thanks to the Work In Progress images of the Avenger released today, which might get some fence sitters who were not certain they liked it or not to get one. According to the pledge graph on the site there's been a small spike in pledges since those images were posted.

It's amazing. In my opinion, they deserve every penny. Show me another crowd funded game with developers who communicate with their backers and the general public as well as these guys do. We get multiple weekly information updates, along with some fun podcasts.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

I hate being so excited. I'm always left disappointed.
I'm eyeballing that 15 million mark though. I would LOVE player run carriers.
