While kind of a ranty complaint from the OP, the crafting set up in Firefall was nebulous, unclear, and unfun when I last checked in.  If you are going to have a game that stresses grinding for materials, you should have carrot of crafting items very well laid out.  Perhaps that's changed, but I know I was put off by it.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Oh and just because it's a free to play game doesn't mean it should be exempt from criticism, they still want your money for this product. I don't know if his points are accurate but many of the responses so far are below the belt.

Was his post trying to improve the game, point out flaws that need to be changed or is he trying to get people to not play the game.

One is an admiral goal. The other is just a shitty thing to do to people who did nothing but try and make a fun game. So don't try and make it out like he's poor little innocent guy who people are attacking for no good reason. His title opens the door to the types of posts he's getting. If he's called it " why I didn't like firefall " the tone of the thread would be totally different.

I'll do what I like without feeling guilt because I don't treat people like shit. The guy is entitled to his opinions. He tried the game didn't like it and gave reasons why. If you feel he is wrong try clearing the air rather than attacking him or someone defending him. As for the "poor little innocent developers", sure, they tried to make a fun game, they may have (I don't know) but honest feedback is worth alot more to them than people shooting down anyone not praising the game.

    You fail at reading.

    "It takes two to tango"

What did I not read? Am I supposed to agree that the responses were justified because it was a shitty title? What am I supposed to agree with?

You tried to justify ignoring the OPs points and tried to justify the responses people gave him for expressing his opinions, just because of a shitty title? Am I missing something?

Take note of what I am doing by the way. I don't understand you, so rather than attack you I seek to gain understanding by addressing what you are saying. If people did the same to the OP it would be a better thread.

Don't see any point in OP's effort to post all that, seems he spent quite some time playing it. 1 hour was all I could stand, it's just plain boring
  • DamonVileDamonVile Member UncommonPosts: 4,818

did I say poor innocent little devs ? or that he can't post his options about the game ?

If I start a thread called I wish hitler was still around today and then went on to talk about social reform do you think anyones going to come in and take me serious ?

He didn't make a post about changing a game or trying to make it better. He made a massive rant about a game trying to get people to not play it. If you really think everyone is so entitled to their options....well people sure expressed them, what's the problem ? Are only some people entitled to some opinions ?

Like I said...make the thread about what you don't like in a game and people should discus/argue your opinions. Make a thread trying to sink a game just because you don't like it and you're just being an idiot. It's all in how you deliver to people.

No, you didn't say poor innocent little devs. I added the devs part because you were defending them and trying to simultaneously have a dig at me for defending the OP. “Don't try to make out as though he is a poor little innocent guy” I believe were the words. Maybe I shouldn't have quoted the devs, I'll concede that because I am fair. I apologize if the irony was lost.

As for the Hitler thing, people would attack him for it yes. Do I think he should have the right to say it if he believes it? You bet ya. That doesn't mean I think it's right and my defense of the OP is no different in that regard. Furthermore I wouldn't use that title (extreme as it may be) as an excuse to invalidate every point he made about social reform.

I would try to read past that and understand it further rather than condemn him for saying something I don't agree with. It also needs to be said that it wasn't that extreme, he pretty much summed up his thoughts in that title (even though I agree it wasn't a good one) and than preceded to explain why he thought people shouldn't play it. It's like someone saying in a wine tasting forum that they shouldn't buy a new wine for the reasons that follow. Sure it's going to hurt people trying to make a living but we come to such forums to discuss such things.

Well he's right about the durability. Dumbest idea since the OveGlove. (google it)

Red5 does care about their community. I don't think those that care have much say in what gets done however. So their hands are tied behind their backs and blindfolded to "Do thy bidding' as the money or lack thereof orders.

Durability could in time lead into a dedicated crafting profession and a better player driven market because everything breaks but not everyone has time to replace it.

I jumped in game and played for a little over an hour, I was bored after that and promptly uninstalled the game.  The only real redeeming factor for this game is that it's free to play.  Which is nice, but I didn't see anything in my time playing that was overly interesting or unique.  Just my take on the whole game, I think if you're looking for something like this...  Well, there's something out there for you now.

To be honest, I prefer the gunplay in Defiance.  Firefall is okay for what it is.  I doubt it's going to pull in a ton of people though.

I like to complain about games.
  • MirathelMirathel Member UncommonPosts: 137

I actually love firefall for all the reasons the OP has a problem with, also...if the red 5 devs hated their players so much, why would they scrap their firefall 1.0 and start over based ENTIRELY on player feedback?? They did a complete 180 just like FFXIV is doing and its working out in both their favors

if you don't like the game (and its a free one at that) go the fuck somewhere else

I welcome it here at MMORPG.com forums. I like to read peoples opinions on games and I'm glad I'm getting more than one side of the story. If you want to demand nothing but praise for the game, (even if that's not what people believe) I would like to ask you to take your own advise.

  • kabitoshinkabitoshin Member UncommonPosts: 854
The market is the only complaint I see reasonable here. So basically OP flamed this game for being non hand holding. The game is generally fun when I want to hop on just to shoot things, and wait for an upgrade to craft.

Opinions are fine, but don't start threads with titles like "Please skip this game"

  • DragonantisDragonantis Member UncommonPosts: 974

I didn't even bother to read much of your post because of the title.

Just because YOU don't like a game, doesn't mean OTHERS wont like it.

Yeah thats my concern too......I just havent ever played a MMO shooter that was all that great...All of them have felt the same to me.....My last shot at one was Planetside 2 and I thought that was garbage......Every one of these games feels like Unreal Tournament when I play.

But there are a few things I am curious about though. How much you need to grind for resources to craft is one thing. And if there are so many different resource types, I wonder how restrictive they are going to make the inventory. Small inventory is one of my main petpeeves in MMO's. I really hate having to run back to town every minute because my inventory is full. That makes me stop playing very fast.

A big part of the game revolves around thumping (which basically is a grind for resources. But its fun), and crafting. You don't have to craft, but another big part of the game is collecting all the battle frames and upgrading them which requires those resources and crafting if you don't want to buy the parts. The last big part are the dynamic events, which are like the rifts in Rift...of which you need the upgraded battle frames to partake in the harder levels of them...which circles back to thumping.

The good thing is you dont necessarily have to thump for resources nonstop. All the events out in the world also give a good amount of resources, in most cases even more than a single stock personal thumper will give you. A number of things give out 500+ resources for completing while tornados can give out significantly more and if you catch an actual city invasion you can get around 4000+ resources for taking part in repelling the attack. The resources you get are all random so you'll need to thump when you need specific resources but events are still a great way to get them in general.

And as for all those who mentioned how boring it was thumping obviously you only went out and tried the Stock Personal Thumper, which is incredibly boring, its the smallest basic thumper and supposed to be easy enough anyone can do it. Try researching and building a bigger thumper and I guarantee you won't be bored anymore. The difference between a Stock Personal and Personal I thumper is quite dramatic not to mention jumping up to a Personal II or III or even Squad thumpers.

Yes I am familiar with it. Note again, how I respond to what you say, even when you mention Hitler rather than ignore everything you say and just try to insult you.

I haven't read the thread...but the OP actually made me want to try this game out.  Everything this person seems to despise (complex crafting, difficult pve, gold/time sinks like crafting and durability) sounds like something i'd enjoy.  Thanks OP for your bitch-fest, turned me on to a game I may not have tried otherwise.

  • loulakiloulaki Member UncommonPosts: 944
yes the game is not so good, but on your first 2 points you failed hard ... many people love this durability system, also this durability system is that keeps economies alive (see EVE... ) anyway ...
