Shinies!

NadiliNadili Member Posts: 197

Having been a vet of both EQ1&2 I have to say this was one of my favorite features.  It encouraged world exploration the rewards were ok later they got better.  I remember so many people having "I stop for shinies" either in their bio or forums sigs. Sadly I also remember many a shiny death.

I don't want another poll but are shinies something people would like for EQN?

Considering that they made a point to make little gift bags to hide all around the event for SOE live and are calling them shinies, I would guess they are very fond of them.  Seeing that, I find it highly probable that shinies will make it into EQN in some fashion.

I would be overjoyed if this were to happen.  Not only do shinies encourage exploration, they:

promote socialization: share with your friends  - sell shinies which then..

promote the economy:  I made a lot of plat  on shinies that I did not trade to friends or use for alts. Bought them too.

plus they are just damn fun !

EQ2 introduced me to the goodness of The Shinies. so ... there'd better be shinies in this game as well.

If I can't chase around female daemons with a mace of +10 penetration... I would be positively flaccid in regards to EQN's future in my gaming repertoire.

It might not be a priority for release but a nice bit to have.

I think some form of collection/shiny system will be implemented.  The devs comment was, 'we want to increase the amount of things to be done between expansions'.  I don't see why they wouldn't promote exploration with neat little items to collect or find in the world - even more so... now that the world has become such a huge topic.

Yes i have to agree i liked them too :D,i would most often go out of my way or stop to pick one up.I would just like to see better rewards than getting more shiny's just to fill in more shiny boxes.Sometimes you go a somewhat useful reward,i would like to see MUCH better and make the shiny a lot more rare and harder to find.

Example why not make one rare shiny in various zones that when completed gives you a house. You know maybe a window pane, door, grass, roof, flooring, brick, ect ect.You can follow that same idea to give the players many things to strive for.It just gives players something else to do that would be fun and different from just leveling.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

While your idea is sound, even commendable, I don't think they'll ever make houses quite that simple to get while LoN and cash shop houses still exist. It could happen though, and would be a nice change, though I'd rather the poor furniture crafters be able to build houses long before this method is put in place.

Shinies are one of those things that could be pulled off for PvE/PVP.  Hopefully they will keep them for EQN, as it gives the gameplay a different flavor not matter your server preference.

ugh i do and I dont....

Do not get me wrong I love the collectible items and the shinny grabs, but I also remember OCD like search in each zone for every shinny, especially that rare one that didnt sell for 2 coppers.  Many a curse words spent finding that last Goliath beetle.

Wait now they want you to collect one of each rare per continent... ..&*&$% *Twitch

I would like to see these return. They offered a lot to the game in a way that made it less boring but also provided at times, fun rewards. I would maybe make it not as easy to level with turning in a bunch at once. But I would like to see these in Next.

I recently came back to EQ2 after an extended time away.  Pretty much the only thing I remembered about the game was collecting shinies and how much fun they were.  They would be doing themselves a disservice to NOT have shinies in EQN.
