Wondering why men play female characters?

I don't personally play female races. If I can avoid It I will for the most part. Personally I always try to get the character as close to what I look like IRL so that it feels like its me in the actual game. Adds to my immersion so so speak. Now on the off chance I do play a female character its because I'll write a story about them, so for instance I have four female characters that I write poems about that are based off of my ex girlfriends. Rift is a prime example of how I can get them to look like my exes almost exactly but with maybe a slight variation because its based off a story.

Also I don't really understand the whole well whose ass am I looking at throughout my leveling. The way I see characters they are a direct representation of self or a variation of something that you have conjured up in your mind...never do I think well I don't want to look at a male butt or what ever. I don't look at my female characters like that either seems idk..kind of basic to think that way. No disrespect though.

I approach it the same way. I make a character based on what I want to be in a particular game. Race, gender, and age are all up for grabs every new mmo outing.

meh... 'cause devs spend all their time on the female models and when you get to the character creation screen the gender options generally come down to "tree stump" and "goddess"... Unless it's an asian grinder, in which case the males look a lot like the females with less bust.

All men secretly wish they were women.

I honestly just go by animations.

Females are animated better then males, period.

PS - All mammals have nipples.

    Get over it already.

I'm a male and I only play make characters. It is a throwback to creating characters and roleplaying on tabletop D&D. I have no desire to play a female. I don't really care what others play as long as it does not turn into a creepfest like Moonguard server in WoW.

@OP Thx for new screen saver. Who is chasing her ? ^^

    My thoughts exactly.

It doesn't affect me that males play females, just don't act like one.

My first female char in a game was in Baldur's Gate 2 but it felt wrong when Anomen( OMG after 10+years  i cant spell a bg2 char from the top of my head) star hitting on my char.

My first serious mmo was Anarchy Online and I made a male opifex char but after some time later I had to deleted, AO male avatar ass and way of walk was to disturbing for me. So I made a female char and played for 2+ years and famele char grow on me. Most game I make female char but it hate when In a game a Full Platemail turns into a Bikini Plate mail(Rift armour tend to do that)

Im only 20 and so when I was a early teen I played FFX-2 a lot! The main characters of that game were mostly female so thats where it really stemmed from. But also I believe many games have better armor models for female characters and better animations.

Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships
    Waiting on: Ashes of Creation

I played a female SK Troll in EQ...She was called Babushka and her skeleton pet I rp'd as her stillborn baby that she animated because her grief wouldn't allow her to part with the remains.  One of my best RP characters to date.

on topic : some games are gender locked so the only way you can play your preferred class (if you have one) is by choosing the gender locked class.

I can't speak for anyone other then me, but for me the reason I play female characters in games is because I don't project myself into the characters. The character I create is a character in that particular world living its own story and I am just directing him or her through it. I could never be that character so its pointless to even try and make it like you (in my opinion) so I just make it its own identifiable entity. Its a fictional character in a fictional world so what does it matter what gender it is? or why even care to project anything on to it because it can have its own identity within the world?

TLDR: I play a character.....not me, females usually look and sound cooler then the males so I play them nothing more needs to be said.

I have to agree with what a lot of people are saying on this thread.  Male character designs are typically carnival silly. Every male character model these days looks like an 80's WWE roid freak or they look like most guys you see at the gym (the ones with huge upper bodies and toothpicks for legs).

Another reason, or at least another reason of mine is superstition.  This goes way back to Anarchy Online for me....I just always seem to roll better and win more loot with a female character.  So now it just became "good luck" to roll a female instead of male.

Well, they look nice, however in the end they kill my immersion in the story and the game...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

totally agree with acvivm and I would much prefer to see a female avatar on screen all day than the back of conan with a hairy ass lol

yes indeed, why would i want to look male characters arse. but main thing is , its fantasy and in there we can be something that we are not. there are no rules in that.

For me it started with tomb raider and lara croft back in the ps1 days. Since then all my characters are female. I love tough heroines kicking arses. And they usually have a cool style and look.

Pretty much this aswell. Im a 300lb greasy nerd IRL. Would I want to project myself into a game? Hell no, I RP my char lightly with her own story.

    First, because we can.

Second, because the females are hot, male players fantasy with them and  love to make then even hotter as the game progresses.

Third, Most males does not see the game avatar as themselves or extension of themselves, but in case of females toons as a third party avatar they fall in love with in a superficial subconsciously manner.

Fourth, to gather cooperation, I notice if you play a female is easier to get help from another player. Some players even lie that they are real life females to get more cooperation. This works like a charm in old sandbox types of games.

Fifth, its none of your business.

Sixth, why people are bringing the gay agenda to this topic? Should I feel guilty for  liking a hot smoking female ass? Should I apologize? A LGBT person can get married in Rift, GW2 has lesbian couple in their lore, hell, there is even an entire planet in their honor in SWTOR. Besides, who asks sexual preferences to other players before joining a group or guild? As long as the player is able to hold its role in a group I do not care about the private life of the person behind the keyboard the other side. Now if the other player begins to advertise they believes and preferences in my group I will tell him/her to go to hell. It does not matter if  muslim, mormon, jew, lgbt, atheist or from any other group.

Please, keep politics out of the games.

Well everything on the computer are just pixels right? Even photos of  porn stars are just pixels. After all, it's all just fantasy.
