[POLL] If you could remove ONE Theme Park mechanic, which would you?

rodingorodingo Member RarePosts: 2,870
Let's just say in a hypothetical sense that the rest of the MMOs coming out in the future will strictly follow the usual theme park  format of quest hubs, raids, trinity, faction grinds and what-not.  If the devs actually took a poll on one mechanic the general player base is tired off seeing and that they would remove, which would you choose?

Thank goodness you aren't in charge of THEMEPARK MMO development...

I don't raid.  Does that mean I should vote for that option or that I don't need to vote for that option?

A lot of games like SWTOR or WoW using faction grinding as a straight up content replacement.

When you make 3-4 dailies, then add a pile of high faction loot for players to go after and then walk away its like turning on the tv and letting Disney raise your kids. Its why I walked away from SWTOR and WoW.

    Other: Linearity

Themepark tend to be to linear. You follow a certain path and you almost cannot avoid it.

I'm ok with some form of linearity, in contrast with sandbox games, but just a little bit more balanced.

I'm ok with quest hubs as long as it's meaningful. Meaning that I don't want to see camps with a few quest givers just because we needed quests at that place. It needs to feel as if the place is alive. It's all just a matter of how well it's implemented I guess.

    Quest hubs

Quest hubs pretty much kill games for me. As soon as I walk into a town and see half a dozen of exclamation marks, my hand reaches for the Uninstall icon. To be honest, I've never played a WoW-like themepark long enough to get to raiding and heavy rep grind, but I guess that only proves how much I hate standard questing.

Quest hubs and linearity. Most other features can be made interesting one way or another.

Traditional quests. Going into "!" marks, grabbing the quests with a little text description, go kill the boars NEEDS to go to hell first.

+1 Pretty much same for me.

The BEST part of a themepark MMO is the raiding.

The WORST part of a themepark MMO is the economy.

Since economy wasn't one of your choices I went with the Trinity, which I also don't like.

I would remove the simplicity all these themepark mmos seem to fashion..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Theme parks suffer from a lack of features, in my opinion, so removing things isn't likely to help.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Remove linear questing and bring back open ended questing. Also make mob grinding viable again. Slow down leveling.

    Currently playing: GW2, EVE
    Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?

    QUEST HUBS????

Wtf is the problem people have with QUEST HUBS?

So you care HOW you get your kill 10 rats quest?

    /applause

how about removing stupid endgame raids gear grind, kill 10 rats collect 5 eggs quests first?

I'm happy to get INTERESTING quests at some "hub" instead of having GW2 type auto quest" collect 5 eggs" brainless tasks.

How about an EQ1 clone with updated graphics and more intuitive UI?

Players telling the Developers how to do their jobs. They dont come to where you work and tell you how to do yours. So dont tell them how to do theirs.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

  • Was a close tie for me between static NPC enemies(other) and quest hubs.

Static enemies was the winner though.

I'd get rid of Joe, the dude that takes care of the tilt-a-whirl. He's a real douchebag and drinks on the job.
