Economy Based MMO?

CamShirayukiCamShirayuki Member UncommonPosts: 23

Lately, I have been playing UWO (Uncharted Waters Online) and I've really gotten into it, despite the long travel times. So, I have been looking for an MMO that has the same, or similar, trading mechanics in it. Where you have to flip stuff and make sure you buy low and sell high. I've played Runescape for years, and I really got into the GE and selling with that, but it came to a point when that wasn't enough and I really wanted to find something else to spark my interest.

I feel I should add that I don't have the best computer, I can play UWO on high graphics with ease, which is a surprise to me. Other MMO's I have tried are FlyFF, Eden Eternal, Shaiya, and a little bit of Grand Fantasia, so that's a better idea of what my computer can handle.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try Eve. You can play that entire game just in Jita at the market. It is almost entirely a player based economy.

I played EvE online like that.

It is a bit hard to get started without it seeming terribly futile though.

Like mining and production in EvE there are far easier and more enjoyable ways to make money. Atleast until you reach a certain volume and quality of goods.

Your wallet would grow very slowly if you are a new player.

My time only really got to be well spent once I had a couple of friends invest 100 million in my company each.. before then I just didnt have the reserves to be effective in trading. Too much work picking up tiny amounts of cheap stuff or not enough profit for larger volumes.

But once I had the cash injection ( my friends were pretty sure I was scamming them, but took a chance) I started making everyone a healthy dividend.. I had soon returned their investment several times over and was soon asking them if they would let their dividends stay in the company so I could branch out into new markets.

Still I could have made more money for myself just running missions. But I was making money for 3 people faster than 1 of us could do by running missions alone. And they  were very happy. They had some spare cash and I told them I could put it to work..

But you are trading for the love of it, most of the time. And it has become a lot less profitable last I played since there were less cheap resources to be had from mission hubs. No more 500% profit Now you would be lucky to make 10% back on an investment over a month well atleast once you have billions invested.. well atleast on what I made my money on.

Do you think my computer can run it? I just wanna make sure I can run it before I go through the long and tedious task of downloading it. (My internet cuts out whenever I download large files)

    My Specs:

    ATI Mobility Radeon 7500

    Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 1.70 GHz

    2.00 Gigs of RAM

Just need a big pile of cash to get going and forget how you got that money so easily in the first place.. Although You could exclusivly trade as a challenge it is extremely hard work to get off the ground

That should handle EvE pretty easily.. they have pretty low requirements. Id say give it a look if you can stand the download.. It has a trial account but I think it is limited in setting up market orders.. Aah yes thats another thing... You will need to train market skills eventually. Have a look at the forums and FAQs and try googling trading in EvE and look past those trying to sell accounts :P

Jesus, is it really that bad? I had heard a bunch of nice things about it from a few places. If it's that hard, impossible even, I don't think I wanna play it. xD

Well, it's kind of a dirty way to start, but he could sell some PLEX to get going.

With reference to your specs, I pulled this off their website:

    "OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 / Vista / 7 / 8

    • CPU: Intel Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz, AMD Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz
    • RAM: XP SP2 – 1 GB / Vista and newer – 2 GB
    • Video: AMD Radeon 2600 XT or NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS

Note that older graphics cards such as the NVIDIA 6000 and 7000 series may work but are not officially supported. Please note that Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and 2000 are not supported."

So you might make it on low settings. I believe they have a free trial, so you can test it before you buy. Also, the UI on that game is like no other, and the depth is a bit overwhelming at first, but dig in and I think you will enjoy as it had the best player economy in any game I've played.

Give Vendetta Online a try if you're looking for a smaller download; it's around 300 megs.  It also has buy low / sell high dynamics with variable prices depending on player activity.

Eve has a larger playerbase (and, ostensibly, a more involved economy), but you also will spend a lot longer dl'ing the client.

edit: if you have an Android phone or tablet, iOS tablet (iPad2 or iPad mini), or WinRT tablet, you can get a subscription for 1$ per month, which carries across to PC

    I feel horrible as I forgot to add this in, but do either of you know any F2P games with economy? I just don't have the money to pay a subscription. ;w;

FTP? Hm... None that I can think of but I'm sure someone will have a decent suggestion. I have never seen much of a player economy in FTP's as they tend to like more transactions at the cash shop ;).

For future releases, The Repopulation is FTP and player run economy. It just won't be out for a while (They said earliest Q4 2013, but beta has not started so I would guess some time in 2014)

Eve can be free if you pay with plex, but can be very tough to play free from the trial unless you get lucky(or look up how to do it):).

You could look into winds of luck, eq next, the repopulation etc when they come out,

You could try trading in sto, but it's likely to be a very weak version of a traders economy.

Is the Repopulation going to be that heavy on the economy side?

    Thanks,
