For me,
Art style of game, especially the female character's armour.
Action combat is bad when playing from Australia due to high latency. Very hard to avoid enemy attacks when you have an extra 1/3rd of a second delay on seeing them.
Absolutely terrible grindy quest design and boring story.
Dungeons were boring, can't remember what any of them were about. Kill stuff for random loot I think.
The terrible fail rate of enchanting gear and low drop rates on crafting mats, especially leather.
Originally posted by g4m3sh4rk Ok, so, I present a new question. What would make Tera better then it is right now? A more fluid directional based combat system, Raids, better pvp, more lands to explore?
None of the above. The largest problem the game has is the community or lack of.
well just since I played both aion and tera(in betas and that was enough, tried to play during the new F2P phase and quit again)
problems I find on tera too slow and generic, too easy to lvl in one weekend I hit lvl 30, Bams who was ost of the time what players used to say it was best thing there what no game could beat was DAMN too easy to kill, it jsut take longer since his HP pool was bigger, and for most part the whole combat is easy 1,2,3 monster death, then if you compare with aion when people say tab target they find the combat slow, well here is the thing combat on aion is faster then in tera and if you played aion first hardly you will find tera better.
and funny thing since aion took 2 year to hit F2P when tera launched I said wanna bet they will be on f2p in 1 year, yeah that was what did happen.
also I did notice some people saying they won't play/pay for the whole code steal deal, even though from what I know of programing you will copy some things be it on your experience or to solve a new problem so to me is a useless complain

I love tera, but it has some pretty big problems
Lots of people get weirded out by the Elin/pedo thing. The game has some of the most badass looking armors in the industry and 75% of the population plays little Loli anime girls. It personally makes absolutely no sense to me. I can understand a girl playing a character like that, but a guy.... Even if your not a pedo you're just pretty damned weird.
This was the reason my wife and I never touched the game. The players that this attracts for the most part is not the type of players we wanted to play with.

as someone who plays tera from time to time....
... vast expansion of politics system (at launch the vanarchy system was a shell. i believe they're gonna relaunch that feature relatively soon with improvements but not sure)
...overland exploration areas more vast with more little neat crap to find in out of the way places
...housing would be great but that's a pet of mine... i love housing in any game
... somehow dissuade sociopaths from playing

Would be a great game but for the combat gets so boring fast. Every encounter is the same hit and doge and then you get respawns way too fast . No skill involved between different mobs.
TERA is so boring. The reason people leave the game at least (that's how I can answer your question) is because of a few things:
1. There is nothing to do. There was 1 pvp battlefield (yeah there's like 3 now, but this is when I quit. Also 3 bf's is a joke number) and it was level 60 only. It stopped being fun and turned to super grind fast the minute people learned you can queue up with premade groups.
2. There really is nothing to do. The best gear in the game for pve (and some pvp bis's) still comes from MCHM, which is a year old. ...yeah... a year old.
3. They are extremely slow with delivering content from the ktera servers. Like Aion 1.0 slow.
4. It's very obvious, or was when I quit, the dev team is way more focused on bringing cash shop items to NA more than content. Right before I quit it was the "maid costume frenzy". 1-race can wear these, but it was all you heard about for a month. I was a popori sitting in town with nothing to do, already over 20 costume pieces to my name, complaining about how there is no content and all they have is fluff.
5. The new stuff they added... There's no real point. The pvp area capture thing with factions (I honeslty don't know the story behind it) brought new pvp to the game...but no new gear. The gear they added for doing this is (or was) 3rd best. Womp Womp
6. No guild housing. There are even spots for it in the cities. The devs didn't even like to talk about it before.
7. No new class. Rumored before launch, this plate class still has yet to make their appearance. Shockerrr
8. No point in crafting. The only reason to level up crafting (and what a joke that is to level, seriously. You can get them all maxed from level 1 within an hour....Yes I know they changed it to make it that easy... I was there) is to make your own VM armor.
9. Vanarch system is stupid. It's nothing like they made us feel like it would be. It's just a pointless popularity contest with alliances.
-Tera will always be remembered as "the game that could have been".
I bought it at release and played until somewhere in the mid-30s, that was where the game sort of fell apart for me, up to the that point I would agree with the statements about engaging combat,decent storyline and cookie crumb questing. It is strange, one of those games I can't necessarily find a major flaw in, but just failed to continue playing. It gets a lot of unwarrented criticism, I'm always tempted to go back and play a new character now that its F2P.

There are plenty of flaws, and there's a ton of reasoning behind the criticism. Read my post.
After Tera become F2P (and i like the model atm), cant find a reason to play other game.
Yes, its a generic quest and gear grind game, but at least the fights are fun, solo and group, and that is a must to me in a mmo.
Tera is far to be my dream game, so is all games around where i find the combat at least OK. So i stay with Tera for now untill get bored or something come out that cal my attention.
Expections: Advenced political system and guild war rewards.
Glithes: At the end-game I've had nothing to do except grinding gear to put more pluses into my PvP gear. PvP guild wars - ZERO, NULL rewards, Nexus Event - max 3 fps on good machine <- server lag <- impossible to fight! ZERO optimizations, ZERO support for European gamers - Frogster EPIC FAIL, bad collision detection, no permban for players who were cheat at enchanting. This is what I remember.

10 - 15 fps in a full Nexus with a standart i5, 8Gb and Gtx550 (not even a top pc), is not that bad and complety playable.

No. This is a combat-action game and you have to play very dynamically, particularly as tank / healer. Talking about fight, I meant guild war fights not Nexus Events.
questing/leveling is super generic and boring, the only thing that keeps it from being a total drag is the combat system.
It's a demanding (and gorgeous) game graphically, lowers the pool of potential players.
Personally, I really like Tera's graphics and world vibrance. I would still be playing it if it weren't for the lack of variety in questing. There are very few, if any, quests in the game that are not of the fetch and kill variety. Also, the game is very demanding graphically. It is quite the norm, for most players, to port into a zone and see nothing but large swaths of "grey people" for a few minutes before the players would begin to load in. Nothing does more to break immersion than seeing invisible NPC's carrying weapons or grey players all over the place and having to wait patiently for a few minutes before NPCs and players finally load in. I don't know but it would seem to me like the game is in dire need of optimization. It also needs a lfg tool. They have a dungeon LFG tool that works quite well but nothing that helps players find groups for BAMs, of which there are many, or other group activities.
Its a good game. It just lacks a lot of the little things that would have made it a great game.
The lock animation is what makes the game interesting in pvp, you have to aim your every move or you will get stomped hard... The game is very gear dependant so if you could just run and swing ur sword, it would be ridiculous...
Game already has new pvp and raids implemented and more are coming.
1) Lack of marketing, especially outside the states.
2) Korean (some people do not like asian style games)
3) Enmasse has the only servers worth playing on, 3rd party provider gameforge gives a seriously substandard service. Take last weekend with double drops. Enmasse implemented it fine, gameforge forgot to switch it on for more than only 1 server and went home over the weekend. Gameforge has no live GMs.
Compare that service to blizzards slick machine.
4) The combat, its like chalk and cheese some people love it, some prefer tab target traditional style.
All that said Enmasse provide one of the best F2P models I have ever seen period! You can play the entire game and even raid and see all instances. However if you play for that long and reach endgame, the shop has some interesting things that make paying and playing much nicer. Plus the paid weapon models look awesome.
I really love the combat itself and the rooting is a great method to give the game a deeper tactical approach - you actually have to think more what skill will be next and observe your enery very well (lots of different Boss mechanics in Tera). In GW2 I just do button smashing, more or less.
Only the combat keeps Tera alive, that means a lot actually. Updates are coming way, way, way too slow compared to Korea and I lost the hope that it will change. No AAA-game is releasing content updates in such a slow pace, no game I can think of Bluehole doesn't like the western market, sadly.
I didn't like the game when I hit max level because the community was so bad, every time I got in a group to a dungeon I've never done before they would be like uhmm omfg can't believe you don't know this go look the fights up on youtube....I mean seriously since when??? Doing a basic dungeon and I have to look at Youtube for it? And so they would kick me and it happened multiple times not just once! Also I don't believe its a game that takes true skill its a game where if you have a little bit better gear than one player you will one shot them and yup thats their "skilled" combat system the game is terrible to me now I will never return even though its f2p
Well, I never played it, I can just mention why I never bothered to even try it:
- super high system requirements. UT3? I couldn't run that at the time...;
- hyper sexualized characters and poses. Ugh;
- uhhh, the children, yeah, *shivers*;
- I heard it was grindy as hell and linear as train tracks;
- there didn't seem to be anything to the game besides the graphics and the combat system. The combat system is a mechanic that I still need somewhere to apply it to.
