    Agreed!

Uh, yeah, that is pretty shallow, lol.

People come to TERA looking for reasons not to like it.  That's one of the main reasons it's not more popular.

action combat is not good for old geezers, like me

the mmo market is full, Theres so many games , to chose from

its Eastern, for us veterans, eastern=grind

look at the mixture of mobs in the noob zone

you have cute , Little cartoon mushrooms, right next to those treant Things, it just feels weird

i preordered TERA for the visual pleasure, and it didnt disappoint me

its one of the most immersive games on the market, and i dont regret buying it

The combat is great, but the quests are uninspired and get very samey.

bc it is a grindfest til lvl 60 and there is no pvp until then. atleast that was the reason why i quit my lvl 58 ranger.

I know I tried this game when it went into beta.  I had been waiting for over a year with excitement.  When I finally got into the game I totally disliked the combat.  I found it clumbsy and not what I was used to at all.  I knew after a few minutes I wouldn't be staying.  It was disappointing to say the least.  I know some will say well you didn't give it a chance.  But to that I say after years and years of playing many mmorpg's I know within 5 mins whether i'm going to enjoy the game or not.

My computer spent the better part of yesterday downloading Jade Dynasty.  I logged in got to the character creation and was disappointed with the lact of choices.  I still proceeded into the game, only to find the quest system to be as boring as the original Perfect World game.  So needless to say I uninstalled and am looking for something new to try again.

I think Tera could be a better game if the combat was allittle bit less clumbsy like most people are discussing.  Being rooted in place is slow and annoying.

I do still play, but not as my main game, mainly because the combat is slightly off, bit slow, root to spot and often misses the target!

Besides the many reasons many here didn't like TERA, like being locked into place, the (quest) grinding etc., my friends and me quit with level 20-30 when they decided to make BAMs soloable. The only challenge you could do on the fly (instead of waiting for random people to fill the missing slots, sometimes for hours, as people already mentioned) we could do it with whoever was online of us, no matter if our healer was there, the lancer, the sorcerer etc.

So we wer left without anything fun to do.

Also, TERA has quite a lot of interesting outfits. But you don't get them while leveling, you are stuck to one or two. Even worse where the weapons, especially the smaller ones like for sorcerers. Some of the end game discs have a nice look, but to find a difference in visuals in those you find you had to examine every pixel.

So finding new items wasn't all that fun, and the levelling experience therefore diminished.

Also, any of you who say "TERA has the best (action) combat, the only where what you do actually has an impact" etc. never played Vindictus. Vindictus is the only MMO i know with true action combat. No locking in place for most skills, those that have are executed rather fast (Evie's spells) or you can simply stop using it (Hailstorm/Luminous Rush while having Heart of Ice/Cold Heart). The only one i remember right here on the spot that locks you for the full duration is Reverse Gravity. Well, Cyclone/Tempest, but you are invulnerable while doing so, and the boss is locked, too.

You can more or less freely mix and mash the attacks, throw in an SP skill, you have to dodge enemy attacks as you can't tank, yet there is no arbitrary dodge-limit like in GW2 etc.

Of course Vindictus has it's own problems, but the combat is the best action combat you will see in an MMO, heck, it might even be better then most singleplayer games, as even most of them do not have tht fluid combat.

Having said this, there is nothing from with more tactical combat, i like games from X-Com/Fallout Tactics with true tactic, to faster games, yet still somewhat tactic reliant like Neverwinter or Dragon Age, or even JRPGs like Final Fantasy. It's just that TERA tried to do everything at once and failed at all.

I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

I don't like Asian style, manga, Asian avatar movement in games, their fighting styles, huge eyes, young girls in non existant outfits wielding huge weapons.....etc etc etc.

Main reason why I never touch any Asian grinder anymore.

    1; korean MMO

    2; It looked very anime

3; it had a bunch of half naked loli characters prominently featured in almost every PR shot of it - supercreepy

    4; zero immersion

5; the only good thing about it is the combat

    3. sex sells

    4. immersion is one of its biggest assets, IMO, the World feels alive

    5. the main part of any mmo, the combat...TERAs combat made it a niche game , from launch

and thats, where it will stay..most players dont like action combat

Dunno, I only played the beta and enjoyed it there.

However, I was engaged in other games and never played it again. Might give it another shot someday.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

I played Tera for a few months. I enjoyed it and the warrior was one of the most fun classes I have played. The combat system was great with some epic boss fights and I especially enjoyed the BAMs out in the world. Very pretty graphics and nice world, even if a bit "Asian weird" in places.

I would have stayed longer, but the grind turned me off. Plus the fact that the gear you were chasing was BoE and so it was easier to grind money and buy it from the AH than run dungeons.

But enchanting was horrible with the absolute randomness and just wasting a fortune on getting the right stats. Plus the faction gear was hilarious - a week of grinding faction to buy a ring with random stats. If it wasn't right for your class, you had another week of grinding faction to buy another ring with random stats...I just hate these kind of systems.

When this game first debuted and I caught wind of it, I was so excited for this game's release. I really love Monster Hunter, all the previews and videos made it seem like an online version of MH (mistake 1). So the first opportunity there was to pre-order the game (mistake 2) I pre-purchased the collector's edition (mistake 3) since I had such high hopes for this game.

After the beta phases had ended and subscribing on release date; I mained Lancer to 50, ran Fane of Kaprima (endgame stuff at the time) countless of times, participated in PvP/GvG for territory-- I tried everything in this game. Not once did I enjoy it past level 30 or so when I realized a trend. What kept me playing was my friends, other than that, the game was very dull and nothing was original aside from the combat system.

Although it is a new type of MMO that broke away from the lock-on tab-targeting combat like EQ / WoW, TERA just felt very bare-bone. It just felt like after they finished the combat system, they kind of just rushed to completion, dumped as much generic and unpolished crap all over it, then stamped it for approval.

My personal dislike with the game is the community that was attracted by the nudity and the Elin race. Also the nudity and Elin races themselves.

    I love Tera.

Not playing it actually due to im a lot on Linux these days and i only got 10fps with Tera there *sight*

Tera US has the better publisher as well,  Tera EU is Ireland, for the ones that know what that means ^^

Tera is a great game, no doubt ^^

When I played it I was enjoying it.

The combat is fun, the world is beautiful, the armor and weapons look good but the quests.... man the quest grind got on me halfway to cap.

It's not exactly quests grind that got me but how you get a load of quests that give low exp to level.

Sadly it could have been a nice game if it wasn't for the repetitive quests.

  • Omegaz24Omegaz24 Member Posts: 4

Tera was okay besides the linear quests and the grindy endgame content. Along with the lock inplace action, though chaining abilities was the only thing that gave it some sort of "fluid" motion.

Just find it funny that no one mentioned anything about being able to dodge a BAM's most devistating attack, but can get wrecked just from them moving from point A to point B during combat. That was the main thing that pissed  me off with this game.

When was the last time you played?

I remember the repetitive grindy quests as well, but last time I played was at beta/launch. I've just come back to the game, and its much more streamlined now. I don't feel like there is as much depth when questing, but it is certainly much faster now to level. Alot of the repetitiveness has gone, and the progression i'm feeling while going through the early levels again feel great. You work your way from easy mobs, to regular mobs, and then some quests have you taking out BAMs, slowly progressing you up. Plus there is all the meta-game stuff with alliances, territory wars and political systems in place. The only thing I wish the game had was a more serious playerbase.

Tera has, without doubt, the worse community in any MMO out there. No joke, it's at the level of the Call of Duty community. Racism, bigotery, abusive whispers, hours spent on talking about their genitals as they just discovered them and the whole communities obsession with the Elins. Just horrible. The free to play community at its worse.
  • GillleanGilllean Member Posts: 169

At lvl 54 I and 3 more friend became very tired of the game.  Also community is TRASH I mean very very trashy !!

About game very boring Quests , Dungeons run a lot of noobs and rude kids.

I find the combat nothing to write home about. Just because it's action oriented doesn't make it good.

Besides combat and animation everything else in this game the same as other titles, and it's done poorly. Terrible quests and such.

I don't hate action combat, but I don't play a MMO just for action combat....I can play single player game if I want some action.

I want something more than action combat in an MMO, and TERA can't offer it. I'm interested in EQN, ESO and wildstar, but action combat isn't the main reason.

    My thoughts exactly.

People think that putting action combat into an MMO makes it good.  But the truth is that it doesn't matter if you put action combat in if it isn't GOOD action combat.  AKA, action combat that can actually stand up when compared to the action combat of a singleplayer game.

Just because it's an MMO isn't an excuse to have watered down, clunky combat.  Either do the action combat right or don't do it at all, IMHO.

As someone has said, Dragon Nest has done action combat much better, probably the best I've seen in an MMO, and Vindictus also is a cut above TERA.  However, I've never been able to get into those games either even with the better combat.  For one thing I despise Nexon NA.  Forever hate them for shutting down their best MMO, Dungeon Fighter Online.  Will never play any of their games again... but that's getting off topic.

Played: DAoC, AC2, WoW, CoH, GW, GW2, WAR, AoC, Champions Online, Rift, Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Warframe, Neverwinter, Dungeon Fighter Online

Currently Playing: Dungeon Fighter Online Global

    Waiting for: None

For me, it was the character models & races. A bit too androgynous & border line perverse for my taste. Also, the classes felt limited.
