Is Disney really all that bad?

Wow I'm reading all of these posts about character graphics and now terrible they are. Comparing it to Disney. Even though it would be more accurate to compare it to Disney Pixar. Well it just baffles me. I'm 39 and have a 4 year old daughter. So I've been watching all the films lately with her when I get thru the house. I sit down to watch Brave and I'm amazed at the animation. I read a comment in one thread of someone complaining about not wanting to see a character from tangled running beside them in their game, and I think Tangled was a great animation.. It just baffles me that so many on this forum think Disney Pixar animation style is so horrible.
Now in writing this I have to say. I was a bit shocked myself when I first saw the character models as I am an old timer EQ fan.. EQ2 fan and Vanguard fan. Normally I prefer realistic looking graphics. Like Age of Conan. However I also go back to look at those games and realize they haven't aged well. Some a bit better than others. But compared to stylized artistic games they just don't hold up as long. And nothing seems to hold up as long as Disney or Disney Pixar..
The characters while a bit shocking to see in Norrath are also nothing short of amazing. We have also only seen a few. Yes I did not care for the Kerran that much. But who knows all the options that will be available to customize these characters.
These characters do indeed compare to Disney Pixar . Anyone who says that they suck need to get their heads checked, because Disney Pixar does absolutely jaw dropping great work

get our heads checked? maybe you should....those computerized graphics have been around for a long time now and are nothing to drool at.I actually had more respect for Disney when they actually drew their movies.
Doesnt mean I want my MMO's that way.
I like the art personally.
If other people don't that's fine, however I'm hearing a lot of criticism of completely unrelated game features that I'm really getting the impression are being picked apart because people didn't like the lion king.
The other one is that some completely obvious sandbox features are not sandbox because...they didn't talk about pvp.
So play a different game?

I love Disney!
But I don't want Disney gameplay and Disney MMO. I an not a child.
That Keran doing his spin was the most silly combat I have seen in a long time. Outside of that they showed no combat. So all I can base me on is the graphics....well they were bad when you imagine it will be an Everquest game....lol
choose one for me.

Yes, "Disney".... in other words cartoon style a la WoW graphics... is bad as far as I am concerned and feel.
Others see nothing wrong with it, some even like it.
I will never play EQNext with it graphics style as we have seen it so far, any more than I would play Wildstar or WoW.
I really can't understand why some here fail to understand our dislike of this style of character graphics... this issue has been a topic around here for years and should be old hat by now. I won't be playing and I see from other comments here others won't be either...
But SOE never wanted an old MMORPG Gamer like me to play their new game, no, they wanted the kids to buy it. I already knew that would be the case, so no insult there.
Moving on to other MMOs...

Ok. Go play one. EQN isn't going to redesign it's entire art and animation table at this point. No need to stomp around the forums spreading discontent.

lol an MMO release when MMO's were still coming out of the womb.A game that I AM playing,just about since its release in 1999
and a Shitty MMO not worth playing..

Im trying to imagine a EQ : befallen or Unrest zone with EQ next artstyle and...
I dont see EQ next reach the same level of fear/horror/scary immersion then EQ.
In fact im affraid that my very first quest will requires me to go Hug 5 players.
They have said over and over that they were making a "new" game, that wouldn't take players from the existing 2 EQs. How could you have expected to get a game that screamed "EQ" and have it fit this statement?
Just because of a certain art style it doesnt mean its for kids. Most disney movies are for kids because of the kind of content it shows. I have seen tons of animated movies and comic books with very stylized art that had nudity, blood, gore, cursing and all sorts of mature things even some adults would find offensive and disturbing.
Hell Kingdom Hearts from Squarenix and Disney is made for adults and teens cuz most kids wouldnt even understand whats going on in the story.
I can see how the people expecting lower fantasy/more realism vs. high fantasy would be upset. Generally though, to go that direction, the game would probably have to be more graphically demanding to run well. Most of the games I can think of that are low fantasy and look great are also somewhat more hardware intensive. Low fantasy without the realism and higher end graphics just tends to look really bad.
Strictly from a business perspective, I can see why they went the direction they did with the art/graphics, (you want as many pc's as possible to be able to run the game well if you're looking to sell millions of units). I think the game looks fine with the high fantasy vibe, looking forward to playing it.

I disagree. FF X was great. (yes, I like cut-scenes)
Though stylized characters and art style might not appeal to everyone, the animations that can be done with this type of style will far out shine any realistic looking art style for several reasons:
1. Lower polycount character models frees up more resources for more key frames in the animation (smoother, yet more extreme animation).
2. The use of stylized characters helps to avoid the "Uncanny Valley" effect, which again can make animations appear to be more wonky,...(see Rift)
3. This is a page from Blizzards's playbook on allowing textures and models to be easily upgradeable/scalable with increases in PC technology over the next several years keeping the game accessible to more people (less need to upgrade PC to play).
