EQNext.. the first GW2 clone

ReehayReehay Member Posts: 172

yep, we can now officially mark the era of the Guild Wars 2 clones. congratulations EQNext... youve moved boldly into the bland zone. a destructible bland zone. zzzzz

normally i'd say this was a hasty assumption but so far, point by point, EQNext is a GW2 clone. minus the levels, GW2 clone.

I know this is news to nobody as anyone can see the obvious. But i just needed to share my despair at the beginning of the GW2 clone Era and the death of a dream.. EQ is gone forever. i need a hug

Interesting bit of psychology. The less information on something that is received, the more what little information given is extrapolated on using commonalities.

I'm way more worried about the combat and gameplay than about the graphics now.

    -no trinity

    -no standard raids

    -no  vertical progression

    -no gear upgrades

    -action gameplay

    -no actual healer

    -no aggro system

ooooooooooooook................what are you going to use to hold your game together........sticky glue and lots of faceroll?

I love how people take 1 or 2 features, the minor ones, and use them to say a game is a clone of another....lol

If I want a world in which people can purchase success and power with cash, I'll play Real Life. Keep Virtual Worlds Virtual!

It may be basic human nature to do this, but common on. The similarities and comparisons are numerous.

Chalk it up. It will be the first of many to come. GW2 finally makes a change for the better and now everyone will clone it for the next 10 years.

See you guys in 2023 when things change again and we get another good game.

The only thing I've seen that remotely seems like GW2 is the limited hotkeys, weapon specific abilities and the Charr-like run.

I would recommend going over the hours worth of information over the last few days and doing some editing here image.

People need to research the definition of a clone. This is really getting old. A game having some what similar features hardly makes it a clone. By that logic gw2 was already a rift clone so there. And people have called gw2 a wow clone. Everything is a clone yet some how vastly different games.

I really don't know why I bother anymore. There is literally no pleasing you people. These forums are a sesspool of negativity. If it wasnt for the outstanding articles written by people who clearly have more genuine enthusiasm and passion for the genre than any of you parrots
who just repeat the same nonsense every time a developer with more creativity passion and
balls to actually do something releases a new product.

Get over it. If you don't like it move on. Go find a game you do like and post there. I'm sick of it.

If only it were so simple and all you trolls would leave on your own and be gone till 2023.

In 2023 you would still be playing "old" hardcore games with concepts from 20yrs ago - and we fanbois would have 10yrs of innovation behind us.

Pretty sure ESO or FFXIV took some ideas from GW2 first.

    You haven't played much GW2.

In my opinion EQN = GW2 meets voxels. And I honestly think that GW2 is the worst MMO to copy, it's just so shallow and dead boring.
  • fyerwallfyerwall Member UncommonPosts: 3,240

Lol,  so much miss information in this thread it isn't funny.

There are healer classes as in you can direct heal others.

Gear is important as it contains modifiers that will increase the effectiveness of abilities.

There will be raid type content, just won't be a static thing.

Maybe if people actually took the time to listen to the panels they would actually learn something.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

    True

tab targeting with certain area attacks... GW2 check.

We don't know the full story about combat yet.  Speculation

no raiding, small groups focus... GW2 check

    You don't know this.  Speculation.

rallying calls, dynamic events.... GW2 check

You have no idea about EQN DEs.  Rallying Calls are said to be permanent, not like GW2

no trinity, "everyone takes care of themselves"..... GW2, check

Not like GW2 from watching the class panel, "roles" can still be there and Darren specifically mentioned that problem with a Warrior in GW2.

    "horizontal character progression".... GW2, check.

GW2 has levels and you cannot swap classes in GW2.

no subscription so cash shop cosmetics fluff.... GW2 check

GW2 started this? EQ2 did way before

"not hardcore" more mass appeal for general audience i.e. easymode for casuals.... GW2, check.

Not enough info to know about planned difficulty.  Again, GW2 started this?

you havent been paying attention, have you? so now you know ;)

I'm sure you will after going over the info out there image

Ah, I see you put together a list, most of which is speculation.  There are some commonalities which are good IMO and I like what GW2 did with the themepark model, which EQN is nothing like.  When GW2 steps up and does the things that EQN is doing then we'll call it a GW2 clone... or would we call GW2 a EQN clone?

    -no trinity (Wrong)

-no standard raids (There is raid sized content in the game)

-no  vertical progression (Horizontal progression is needed for a good sandbox)

-no gear upgrades (Gear is used for skill/ability, and look customization, gear is really important in EQN)

    -action gameplay (Check)

    -no actual healer (Wrong)

    -no aggro system (Great)

Or maybe you just wanted more of the same and can't see the genius in their design?

Legends of Kesmai, UO, EQ, AO, DAoC, AC, SB, RO, SWG, EVE, EQ2, CoH, GW, VG:SOH, WAR, Aion, DF, CO, MO, DN, Tera, SWTOR, RO2, DP, GW2, PS2, BnS, NW, FF:XIV, ESO, EQ:NL

Who said there would be no gear upgrades ?

What HAS been said is that the game will be heavily gear dependant, because gear will modify your class abilities.

So do you really think there will be only ONE "ring of casting speed" giving 0.5 sec faster casting ? Not perhaps 3 different rings, one giving 0.5, another giving 0.75 and then a really rare one that gives 1.0 sec faster casting ?

As for being a GW2 clone, lol, so far EQNext does everything GW2 does, just much better. And that's just the first half of EQNext, the other half contains things GW2 players can only dream about image

Honestly until play the game i wont jump to conclusions. People see similar features and immediately say OMG gw2 clone! Seriously I'm only 20 and  some of you vets are acting like children.

Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships
    Waiting on: Ashes of Creation

Going by your first paragraph stating that GW2 is a rift clone would mean that Rift is a Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning clone.

In a world of sharp knives, you would be a spoon.
