in terms of staying true to the brand EQN < ESO

in the past i have seen so many people complain that ESO doesn't feel enough like an ES game.

well compared to EQN i am quite confident it will look and feel far more like an ES game than EQN looks and feels like an EQ game, that is for damn sure.

i wonder how many of the people that complained about ESO not being ES enough are now on the EQN bandwagon?

i am still looking forward to both games but the art style and the fact that EQN has very little similar features to an EQ game, compared to ESO which is a lot better in that regard and actually looks like an ES game.

These forums have shown that people will literally complain about anything.

That said, ESO, based on everything I've seen, looks like Skyrim with slightly worse graphics online. Pretty much exactly what was promised.

EQN looks like they're trying a completely new type of gameplay, set in the same world as EQ. Because of this alone, even though they're trying to keep as much of the old EQ as possible, it should feel like a completely new experience (which isn't a bad thing).

I really don't care about staying true to a brand. I care about having fun.

Let's be clear. EQNext could be terrible. The ideas they're running with may not pan out. But they're taking a major IP and running in a very different direction with it for the sake of attempting to grow the 'MMO' genre. To me, that's great. It could be an excellent experience. Only time will tell, really. (By 'different direction' I am not implying that X, Y, or Z feature is 'new', 'innovative' or never seen before. Take everything from everywhere and make it better if you can. 'Originality' debates are worse than F2P vs P2P.)

by doing that you are alienating your fanbase and catering to gamers that would otherwise not be interested in EQ.

i don't care if they change things but they have changed everything, so much so that it resembles other games (like GW2) more than everquest.

the same can not be said about ESO, even though it too has changed some things from the ES single player games.

they are catering to their fans (already a huge fanbase) and EQN is not catering to the EQ fans in any way that i can see (obviously they want a bigger fanbase).

so while i do see your point about having fun, i would also like to play an everquest game that actually resembles an everquest game to at least some extent.

at least make it visually look similar to everquest, they failed to even do that.

I criticised both of them for that reason.

When you use an IP it has to follow the original vision and rules of the IP.

Neither of those two games do any justice to their respective IP in my opinion.

Having said that I agree with you, compared to EQN, ESO is more in line with its IP.

Still not an excuse to use TES IP to make a mediocre Multiplayer game.

Seems to me that ESO will be a perfect blend between Skyrim and an MMO.

While EQN will something totally new, with a different graphics style, differnt combat feel, diferent lore, different crafting system, different everything

You guys really need to get your act together, because ESO is as close as an MMO can come to the elder scrolls series..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

As a die hard Everquest fan who was there in the beginning for SOE in EQ1, then EQ2, I can say you are 100% correct.  In terms of staying true to the brand, ESO right now looks, feels, and plays like Elder Scrolls.   The complaints people have with ESO are likely the same complaints they had with other ES games.   While EQN does NOT look, feel, or play like Everquest universe at all.  SOE wants to give homage to us EQ fans with simply the names of ingame zones and loot?  Are you kidding me?  After 14 years of support that's all I get as a die hard EQ fan?  How about give me a Vah Shir looking model from EQ1 or Kerra looking model from EQ2, rather than a lion king?   How about give us classes and AA abilities that us EQ fans are familiar with?

I'm not as upset by it as I sound, because I knew SOE wasn't going to cater to their Everquest fanbase.  I saw it coming from a mile away, and was chuckling at all the Everquest fans in the past year that said EQN was going to be an EQ1 with modern graphics, or that EQN was going to bring old school back.

The trend for SOE is to create mass market games by copying the latest and newest games.   They already gave EQ1 fans a finger when they made EQ2, why should I believe they wouldn't do the same now with EQN?   Now they're giving two fingers to both EQ1 & EQ2 fans.   Planetside 2 copied a lot from Battlefield 3, so much that they ticked off Planetside 1 fans, and it wasn't until the game nosedived that they started revamping the game to become more like Planetside 1.  Where as EQN is a mix of Guild Wars 2, Rift, and WoW.  The thing is I actually liked GW2, the playstyle and game design suited a game like GW2.  And I liked WoW because their graphics fit the warcraft universe.  My biggest beef id that the way EQN is designed currently, graphically, artistically, and technically, it's nothing like Everquest universe.
