How many action bar skills do you want?

irpugbossirpugboss Member UncommonPosts: 427

Here is a poll to see what this specific community likes as far as the amount of abilities on the action bar.

I personally have become a fan of condensing the action bar, although I think it still needs some work. My current mmo is GW2, but I admit there is room to improve on how skills are built.

IMO in most MMOs (WoW & WoW clones)  there is too many filler abilities, the fact that macro'ing is pretty much required to excel is a testament to the flaw of actionbar/skill bloat. It creates a learning curve, which some may consider skillful, but mostly comes down to wikis and copy/past of the each classes best macros.

I do understand that people like complexity, arbitrary or not, so I would like to know how many buttons are ideal for most people?

Please vote, and please comment with your most recent MMO of choice so we can see how many buttons you prefer and the execution of those buttons in your preferred game.

    unlimited like in EQ

but -if- it's not trinity and just DPS faceroll, then none, might as well do it right like Vindictus then and do everything with combos, although all action games tend to bore me after a bit, trinity is waaay more fun for me

As many as necessary and not one more.

Otherwise 5 to 8 is fine.

    1 bar with 8 skills :)

If you want classic tab target crap go play ********

I hope there's a lot more to combat than having 10000000000000000000 skillz

FPS games pretty much have a few skills ad that it, hope EQN is the same

I want to amount that allows me to play the chosen class in the chosen game.  No more, no less.

I can play EQ2 with six or seven bars, each set up for different things.  I played EQ with 8 abilities no problem back in the day.  It's all relative.

If the game is designed for 8 then learn your abilities and how/when to use them; especially if you get more than you can use at once.  God forbid you be made to think just a little bit in a game.  WoW may not need any thought to succeed, and this title may not  either when launched so stop freaking out already.  Besides, I bet all of you that don't like to think we're never any good at games like chess, battleship, or even checkers.

huh?? you mean 8 like in EQ? 8 spells at least but if you are a caster thats pretty much everything you do.

melee had even less abilities to use than 8 at a time in EQ unless you count disciplines which usually had long CD's.

i think 8 is fine because players will have access to hundreds of them they can mix and match.

i don't want to be able to use an unlimited amount of spells and skills at one time, that is just ridiculous and EQ was definitely not like that, EQ2 was more like that though, they got that from wow.

I think you have intelligence confused with pressing buttons in a game, or meta-game complexity that 99% of people solve through a simple google search?

What I mean is, yes there can be an infinite number of skills and skill combinations, but how many SHOULD be allowed at any given time during combat given a sizable action bar?

As for some of the other comments, this is not specific to EQN, GW2, WoW, or EQ, but rather your ideal MMO.

On a personal note, insulting people based on gameplay preference, including myself,  is childish. If you are representative of the EQ community or its vocal minority, I am soooooo glad they are making Disney graphics with 8 skills to scare people like you off lol.

I actually think 8 is a right number.  You want as few bars as possible cluttering up the screen.  1 is the smallest number of bars you could possibly have without dispensing with them altogether.  But you also need to use part of that bar for potions and items.  So 8 skills, 2 pots, 2 items; done.  They could maybe do like EQ1 did and use an aa to add 1 or 2 more skills to the bar.

I started with 8 in EQ1 and can end with 8 in EQN which is probably the last full time Everquest version I will ever live to play.

Just give me 1 standard hotbar (1 through 0) and the ability to add another hotbar for things such as potions and usable items. I hate having to dig around my inventory for crap.

And while on the inventory subject; If we have bag space like EQ2, can we please have the bag managing system EQ2 has? Set specific bags to only accept certain items. I like having a general idea where things are. If its just one giant inventory window, please allow us to be able to set tabs that will work like the feature above.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

At least 80 skills. Ideally, most will be just stronger variations rather than an actual unique ability. Oh, and please let 60% of them be extremely situational, and rarely ever used.

He said action bar, not spell bar, EQ has unlimited hotbars, in the hundreds of available slots.

And spell bar is up to 12, not 8.

What you are right about is that at launch the spell bar was 8, but it's 2013 now, not 1996, EQ added spell slots, rapid spell memorisation and quick spell indexing and automem.

Even for casters with 12 spell slots, you can change out your spells during combat. And many of the spells now are in the form of abilities, so you're unlimited.

Half of my spells on my EQ druid aren't even in the 12 slot spell gems, they're on my hotbar in the form of an ability, they come from AA.

Anyway, sorry for off-topic, but yah..EQ changed.

less then 10 skill is enought. after that game gets too much UI watching.

    but ofc its personal taste:)

Im not anymore so young that i enjoy watching every 20 skill cooldowns on UI.

Personally for me 8 skills is not enough, I like action games but I also like a vast amount of skills.  It doesn't worry me if all the skills aren't  used all the time and only 8-15 are for my core abilities with the rest being utility or minor abilities.  If EQN gets released with a similar combat setup to gw2 It would be a deal breaker for me screams play with a controller and keep ps4/xbox players competitive with pc players.

Why don't people bring up item based skills?  Clicky items? Put those on hotbars!  Stick with the 8 skills.  Was great through EQ1.  No need for more w/ clicky items.
